There is no point jailbreaking Samsung phones because OneUI is currently the best android skin on the market right now

LOL, like saying it is the most delicious turd. All Android skins from the chinkphones to these gookphones have gross skins on top of Vanilla Android. It's a waste of resources and makes the UI worse.

OneUI is the most complete and user friendly UI around
Google's android leaves much to be desired but at least it looks pretty, kinda like iOS in that regard

Ok so Graphene and Lineage both run the Pixel skin.... Suuuuuuure. You don't understand, Google adds stuff to Android on Pixels, obviously, but it looks and functions mostly identical to AOSP. There's no bloated skin on top trying to create a unique UI so people know it's a Samsung or an OPPO.

There's still a shed load of bloat on a Pixel phone so it's good to be able to know how to remove it and not just disable apps. If you think you're king shit with a Pixel 9 running GraphmemeOS then fair play to you. All I'll say is enjoy your shitty SOC and battery drain.
>>
Any suggestions /spg/?

My Pixel 6 Pro is crapping out, and honestly I don't think it was ever that good to start with. Its heavy, lot of heft at the top which was crap to hold, its huge, its camera was massively overrated, it overheats incredibly easy, its battery is shit (I turn off 5g, location, bluetooth, etc often to make it even when it was newer), etc. I got it because I could put on graphene OS as I liked things unlocked but also usable, but quickly realized a new OS can't really undo trash design. Sort of missed my Moto G Stylus I had before it, but at least then motorola couldn't put a passable camera into anything that wasn't expensive enough to be worth just buying something else.

I have used an S25 for work, its light, camera is pretty good, feels nice all around, but I avoid Samsung for the same reason as iPhone, I like to be able to tell the phone what it does not have it tell me what I'm allowed to do. I am one of those crackpots who uses Linux as my only PC OS so I do stick with Android an unlockable bootloaders, especially with the potential bullshit with Google potentially trying to close off some of Android (I like my no ads youtube, I could put up with ads until it got to be more ads than video/music, I'll listen to the sound of wind in the car before I put up with it again).

I just don't want to repeat the mistake of the Pixel, that overheating brick of a phone went to shit fast.

tl;dr Any good camera, good battery, decent storage phones in the mid range not break the territory that are still unlockable? (Sadly US region which limits a lot of that, currently on tmobile towers but I don't do contracts so I can change it any time.)

I tried looking at GSM Arena, but the filter for selfie camera only allows you to select "at least X MP", not "up to 0 MP". I know, for example, the first Huawei Mate X foldable had no selfe camera, you had to flip it over and use the back screen and main camera if you wanted a selfie, but GSM Arena lists its selfie as "No - uses main camera", but there's no option on filters to search for others like that.

Some of us want to save memories and save videos and pictures of events that we shared with friends and family and some of us want to use a Camera phone to do so. being in a smartphone general, a camera is going to be brought up and to act all astonished about it is very strange. >chink phones are shifting to 200MP main cameras soon
Is this not technically a downgrade? I don't see how drastically increasing the resolution and only slightly increasing the sensor size over the usual 1/1.3" is a good thing. RAWs out of my S23U always look worse than ones out of chink phones with 50MP sensors of an equivalent size, so is their plan to just fix shit with even more processing?
>>
>>108432965
It isn't good. Phone sensors should be like 8mp bt retards like bigger numbers
>>
>>108432965
Raw 50MP on your S23U looks worse than raw 50MP on other chinese phones?

>>
>>108432965
its just marketing. bigger number better
>>
>>108432965
most people in this general have absolutely zero clue about photography or anything related to this but I can share my personal experience with my S23U

The 200MP mode isn't a meme and it can actually be useful, however the conditions have to be absolutely perfect to get something good out of it. I have, however, managed to get before shots that looked very, very impressive out of it, I'm guessing Samsung will refine it more and more as time passes

Compare that to the S21U, where I tried to use the 108MP mode and almost never got anything visibly useful out of it
>>
>>108433104
youre an idiot
>>
>>108432822
And? The first Xperia 10/5/1 is still updated to Android 16 because of LineageOS
>>
>>108432988
I mean 200MP binned down to 12MP RAW looks worse than 50MP binned down to 12MP RAW on a 1/1.3" sensor. It's not necessarily exclusive to chink phones.

I've compared my S23U to my Pixel 6 Pro in RAW and one noticeable thing is that Pixel is somehow always sharper and performs better in more difficult lighting. I made sure to use a different camera app on the Pixel to bypass their, albeit really good, stacked RAW in the stock app plus actual manual controls to get a more direct comparison and the Pixel is still almost always better at an equivalent shutter speed and ISO.

This is a smartphone general and you are on a technology board where things like what you are complaining about are going to be posted because they are facts and they do not break the board rules. Your constant complaining of seeing smartphone facts in a smartphone general is literally you not being able to accept the facts being posted and that is not an issue.

>>108439038
Get rid of them. Fire hazard.
>hoarding a pile of old li-ion polymer batteries in your house, unused for years, in various unknown states of charge, where swelling would go unnoticed until a critical stage

Phones would be cool to keep if you could remove that batteries and just run them off chargers 24/7. Then you could delegate different tasks to them. Of course the phone masters don't want us to have that, so they'll never let us use phone without the batteries in.
>>

>>
>>108439088
Do phones stop working with the battery removed? I know removing them is a pain but couldn't I plug them into a USB C charger
>>
>>108439101
>In almost all cases, no, you cannot use a modern Android phone with the battery physically removed, even if it is plugged into a charger.

>Unlike laptops, which often have parallel power circuits that allow them to run directly from an AC adapter, modern smartphones are designed with the battery as an integral part of the power circuit.

>Circuit Interruption: Removing the battery physically breaks the circuit in most devices, preventing power from reaching the motherboard.
>Peak Power Demands: Smartphone chargers typically provide a steady, lower current, while the phone requires high "burst" currents for tasks like making calls or using high-end apps. The battery acts as a critical buffer for these power spikes; without it, the phone would likely crash or reset immediately upon booting.
>Safety Authentication: Modern phones use "smart" batteries with internal chips that communicate with the phone. If the phone cannot detect a valid battery via these data pins, it will often refuse to boot as a safety precaution.

>DIY Workarounds (Advanced Only)
>It is technically possible to "trick" a phone into running without a battery, but this requires hardware modification:
>Dummy Battery: You can solder a DC power supply directly to the battery terminals on the motherboard, but you must also bypass the "ID" or "Thermal" pins (often using a resistor) to make the phone think a healthy battery is attached.
>Power Source: You would need a highly stable 3.7V–4.2V power supply capable of at least 2A–3A to handle peak demands.

>the best chance you have at defense against Pegasus and other such malware is to buy an iPhone or a Pixel
>both of which are expensive as fuck
I don't otherwise see a good reason to spend more then $200 on a phone and get at least 3 years of use out of it, preferably more. It's a fucking phone, I only use it for basic things. But you need to because only iPhone or Pixel get updates and security directly from Apple/Google.

As much shit as Windows gets, it gets it because all Windows installations get updates from the source. There is broadly one centralized version. They don't leave it up to the manufacturer to keep you up-to-date, or to introduce extra gimmick features and stupid 'skins' on top of Windows written with garbage code that gives more swiss-cheese surface area for malware to attack. Can you imagine if it were up to HP or Acer to update your OS? But thankfully Microsoft controls it all. Whether you had Windows 10 on modern powerful hardware or a toaster from the XP/Vista days, or the chinkiest fanless mini PC, or the jankiest shittiest DIY build of anicent parts of all time, as long as it had a legit copy of Windows 10 running on it, they were all treated the same, all got the same updates directly from Microsoft. Android fragmentation is a godawful mistake. A security hell of nightmares. Honestly, government should force phones to make them more like desktops/laptops. All Android phones have to run 'stock' pure Google Android, directly from Google, and Google running all the security and updates. Just like Windows. These phone makers should just make the hardware for Google Android to run on, like HP, Lenovo, Dell, Acer, Asus etc do for computers. This is the info age, people are getting hacked and scammed everyday, and on a larger scale cyberwarfare is being waged by nation states. The populace is too dumb to understand these concepts themselves. It is up to the government to keep individuals, orgs and nations secure.

innovashun means fragmentation means poor data security. if the vast majority of your population uses their phone more than their proper computer, and the vast majority have an insecure OS, that is a disaster.

It is doe. The screen protector that broke literally absorbed the energy that would have gone to the screen.
Also, literally no fancy glass screen is resistant to scratches from a grain of sand or a speck of dust. Imagine getting a nice phone and getting it scratched up.

Topkek. Asking for real here, would this very cheap samsung phone last for 5 years without lagging? My usecase is shitposting on 4chin and reading mango
>>
>>108442845
It will be slow today. Probably slower tomorrow. There is no 8/256GB 5G version btw it looks like 4/64, 4/128, and 6/128GB versions are all you get according to gsmarena. The 4G version has more RAM in a configuration but a much MUCH shittier SoC/processor from 2022. Why get the bottom of the barrel Samsung and want it to last 5 years? The battery replacement you'll need after three years might be almost as expensive than what you paid for the phone

It will work ok, albeit slowly for your use case. Lower resolution screen means things will be less sharp, but that's not a huge deal. The lag from OneUI on a budget phone now will be enough to make you want to pull your hair out.

>>108442075
I should mention it was a minor crack on the curved glass portion of a phone with a meme curved display. Not like you could have easily put a glass screen protector on it anyway.

To simplify things: Google, Motorola and Sony all use AOSP with their own additions to it.
AOSP is the baseline of Android. Every other Android implementation derives from it.
GrapheneOS and LineageOS are AOSP based, therefore they inherit that clean Android look
OneUI is what Samsung came up with to gut the Android experience and replace it with their own so that they stand out.

Samsung also does a very cuntish move I've experienced firsthand: if you buy a budget model, it'll come with OneUI Core, that doesn't just trim OneUI features, it cuts out AOSP features like screen recording, features that are meant to be implemented in every Android device, just so that you're shamed into spending more for a better model. That alone should cross Samsung out of your choices, not even Motorola does it with their bottom of the barrel budget models.

You can get older flagship phones for cheap. The same phones you were shilling 3 years ago are just as fast and reliable as they were in 2024. Although iPhone was forced to stop selling some phones because they no longer met the requirements of beaming harmful radiation into your face.

>>108444652
>good (non-ai) camera and a humongous amount of storage
RIP. Gotta spend big $$$ for 1TB these days. I'm on a 128Gb S22 Ultra, really solid so can recommend if you find one.
>>
>>108444658
>delusions of grandeur
You can lie as much as you want in the thread but this is a technology board and nobody is going to believe that a $200 mid-tier phone is on par with a flagship now you're changing the goal posts and claiming that a 2 to 3-year-old flagship is on par with a modern day mid-tier just stop it bro not everybody has to buy a cheap phone just because that's your budget some of us will buy flagships I don't understand what it is with this thread and people thinking that everyone has to live in the same income bracket as they do and than coming here to lie and claiming that a mid-tier phone is this astronomical piece of technology that is surpassing $1,000 plus flagships kek like just stop it with the fantasy tales it's embarrassing and it lowers the quality of this thread
>>
No a 2-3 year old flagship is not on the same level as a modern flagship. This is misinformation.
>>
>>108444678
>nobody is going to believe that a $200 mid-tier phone
I'm stopping you right there, you have misread and misunderstood twice now so its time to stop.

Here's the simplest I can go for you:
iPhone 15. Following so far? Is LESS MONEY. Got that? Than iPhone 17. Whew, take a break, you made it.
>>
>The idea that a sub $500 flagship from a few years ago is more ideal than purchasing the $2000 flagship of this generation just for a 1% faster load time on facebook is foreign to the resident shill
Shocking.
>>
>>108444726
>the impoverished misinformation posters are still in the thread posting fantasy stories that a 2 to 3 year plus old flagship is only going to be one percent slower than the modern version
Sad
>>
>>108444744
nah fr it's cool to save money or buy something used, but don't come to a tech board boasting that it's not that far apart from a new modern version which has significantly made improvements.
>>
Has anybody here ever tried buying open-box from Bestbuy before? How was your experience. I found a very inexpensive pixel 10 fold and impulse grabbed it. They said it wasn't refurb or pre-owned, just open box, but it was basically half off.
>>
>>108444756
>significantly made improvements.
This is what shills actually believe
>>
>>108444796
>this new flagship is a scam because it has no improvements in my mind and I'll disregard all the facts to cope with my old smartphone purchase
Yea we get it bro; you find new flagships to be too expensive for you, but not all of us deal with that problem.
>>
>>108444788
Half of my tech is open-box from best buy, I've never had a problem with it.
>>
>>108444817
Dude ran away with the goalposts on this one.

I literally responded to an anon that doesn't need much suggesting that an older flagship is enough. Your twisted mind is hallucinating quite an argument here

sometimes I have to remind myself the type of people that use this website and what their lives are like and I forget that most of these people dont even have jobs

$1,200 is not a lot of money for a smartphone if you're a functional adult, like I spend $300 a week at the dispensary on smokables...

Man, I love my Z Fold 6, I started with Google's first fold and man, that feels like a million years ago.
>>
>>108444854
You get a free iPhone with most jobs anyway, so $1200 isn't bad to spend on a daily driver I'll actually want to use

zero phones all 3, the first 2 are almost mutually exclusive. if you can say goodbye to the camera then moto g86 power + sd card. if you want a slightly better camera and worse battery, xperia 1 or 10 vii + sd card

The Fold 7 is thinner but I don't like the feel of it, thinking I will try the pixel 10 fold, the big screen is so much nicer. I saw a Chinese company made progress on a creasless folder too, really excited to see how Samsung and Google improve, seeing as the screens are mostly Samsung anyway
>>
Battery size is such a silly criteria for phones, what phone can't charge to 80%in under an hour these days? 5000 mah is good enough

>>
>>108445080
Don't be silly, that's just excessive. The Pixel and Z Fold are the size of a normal smartphone with a practical fold-out screen and a functional hinge that I love putting youtube on while still having room for a texting app or browser

Kek, good one. You put it down at night and wake up charged. You go to work and top off (you do work, right?) And then you go home. The only actual use case for a larger battery is traveling outside of civilization on foot and then you would have baggage for an external battery

Your point?

Bros, I just can't decide, I've been lurking for a week and watching all the reviews and I think I'm down to two choices

>Google Pixel pro 10 fold
Gemini is easily one of the best AI tool on the market and the big screen makes it easier to access my PC and use my local AI tools. Plus I get all the updates. The only downside is that the case I usually buy is sold out! But I can wait.

>redmagic 11 pro
Impressive cooling system and the best gaming performance. Every review I've come accross praises the performance in gatcha games but also has great performance on PC games thanks to android's emulation. I'm hesitent to go all in on mobile gaming, but if I wanted to, this is the best option hands down
>>
>>108447084
>pixel
slow with bad battery life
>redmagic
lack of software updates over the long-term
>>
>android
>needing software updates
>not just getting new phones
Kek, poorfag.

Forgot to mention the Graphene os choice as well, since Pixels are a dime a dozen. I never thought I'd see the day Google had the top smartphones
>>
>>108447084
What's the most important thing to you in a phone? You haven't considered Samsung? I'm assuming you don't care about the camera since you aren't considering the big boy chinese cameraphones?
>>
>>108447154
>lol just get a new phone

And what if people don't want to buy new phones every two years? I'm glad Samsung got it's shit together now with updates but I still remember the dark times when Samsung and most androids in general got only 2 OS updates and that was it
>>
>>108447154

Saar get the iPhone 17 Pro Max, it is the best for doing the needful for emulation thoughbeit you cannot easily make use of JiT compilation which is necessary for everything higher than PSone and Saturn emulation...

Just kidding. The Redmagic has an inferior dust and water resistance rating, IPX8, the 8 means it's good at water the X means no resistance against dust. Not that the hinge on the Pixel Fold is going to like dust, but that phone is claimed to have an IP68 dust and water resistance rating. I'd compare the two.

>>108447113
>slow
At benchmarks and in unoptimized waifu gacha games it is less performant than the Redmagic but it is by no means slow in day to day usage.
>bad battery life
Again, depends on use case. But for typical people the battery is fine, I've had days of 10 hours SoT on one charge before, on the smaller 10 Pro, so I wouldn't call it bad.

If your use case is vidya then sure get the Redmagic but if you want to get Day 1 and beta updates or run GrapheneOS the Pixel is your best bet.

Check out the comparison here:

Samsung is okay, but I prefer Google's UI. I have several proffesional grade cameras, I do not need a smartphone camera. Right now "big screen" has my attention, and if it creases, I'm just going to trade it for the non-folder
>>
>>108447279
Thunk u, I luv u

Genuine question since we're talking android versions, but why would I even need the latest update 4 years later? The latest seem like they just threw AI into everything. I have a samsung 2022 and its fast and still runs any app I download. Btw yes, I am still on windows 10
>>
>>108447279
>necessary for everything higher than PSone and Saturn emulation
I have pi 3 for that
>>
>>108445535
The video says that at the moment starting in April OnePlus is only going to be available in China and everywhere else they're going to be shutting down their global market
>>
>>108447350
>not installing security updates on a device that is constantly connected to the internet
>using the most popular OS on the planet
>on the juiciest target for people's personal information
Hmm I wonder.

>>108447404
Pi 3 can't do PS2, GameCube, or newer I'm pretty sure. High end Android phones and tablets can, newer iPhones have the hardware but is locked down by Apple which blocks JiT (Just in Time) compilation unless you tinker tranny your way into enabling it. Thus, no one bothers to make emulators past the PS1/Saturn/N64 generation for the iPhone. I mean, you CAN sideload Dolphin, but again it won't run without serious tweaking.
