Should I avoid installing into .local or is it fine? How do I keep track of what I've installed that way?

It's the present. Btrfs is what any serious distro uses now by default.

BDS as well as Devaun, but I haven't had any exp with non-systemd systems, I would vm one for a bit and daily drive it before jumping, just incase.

on Linux the source code for all my GIMP plugins is 6mb. On Windows its almost 180MB because I had to static link gettext just to get it to work on GIMP 3.0.8 - which means Windows source code ships separate

>>108430206
Depends if zfs ever gets added into the kernel instead of being stuck as a dkms module. But there will probably be another filesystem that will eventually surpass btrfs in terms of features.
But ext4 and xfs still exist and sometimes are better to use over btrfs.
After last thread im tempted to mess around more with xfs and install it to a spare machine.
>>
>>108430405
Gentoo or artix. Or devuan if they finally have proper support for other init systems instead of using a sysvinit shim.
>>
>>108430472
Ext4 is still fine to use, its more mature and stable than other filesystems.

how do i do symlinks on gnome? i want my screenshots to go to my picture folder on a separate drive.
>>
>>108430646
kek
>>
>>108430714
You have to enable it in the nautilus settings because symlinks confuse gnome's non-existent target audience.
Or just ln -s it like a normal person
>>
>>108430691
ZFS would have to be completely re-written as GPL 2 (or compatible like MIT) for it to ever have any chance of being merged into the kernel.

If you compile your own custom kernel then you can build ZFS into the kernel instead of as a separate module (I do this) but it's not compatible with the kernels license.
>>
>>108430714
Don't use symlinks. You're doing it wrong. Set the appropriate location in your user-dirs config. There is a standard for this!
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/XDG_user_directories
>>
>>108430786
>>108430714
Ah, never mind. If you just want to move the Screenshots folder then yeah, a symlink is the right way to do that. Copy the folder then rm -rf it and drop the symlink in its place.

On mac when I wanted a nice semi-transparent terminal that drops down from the top of the screen I just had to download iterm2 and flick one setting, install some themes and I was good to go.
How do you solve this on KDE? Is Konsole good enough or do I ditch it?
>>

>How do you solve this on KDE? Is Konsole good enough or do I ditch it?
Yakuake.
>>
>>108430405
>systemd
if you aren't worried about the age verification thing, the systemd high severity bug found in the Ubuntu was for local attackers, not remote attackers. That being said if they left it long enough, someone probably would have found a way to make it into a remote attack, but it was caught at the local level and (I assume) it was taken care of.
If you don't want to use systemd, that's fine, desu the fact that they didn't pick up on this sooner is a huge ball drop on their part, but systemd is safe to use and you don't have to worry about hacks if that's your primary complaint.
I can't say that this will carry into the future if they are getting this sloppy, but as of now, systemd is safe to use currently, granted if you haven't, update your systemd or your current distro if you haven't.

Good to know that no one in the Void community is a serious person and that fun is banned.

among trannies yes

Every distro and init system will fall sooner or later no matter how hard they resist.
I just don't care anymore. Debian just works, and if I have to deal with being gangraped by California, the Debian trannyship, and Poettering at the same time to have an usable OS, then I will take it like the whore I am.
>>
>>108429990
Slightly different topic but in the same vein, should I install Graphene OS onto my android phone? I'm kinda apprehensive about it mainly because I have to pull all my data off my phone onto my computer and then update just incase the data doesn't carry over and I'm kinda afraid that I'll update and it'll be worse than the android OS I'm currently using.
If this was a computer I wouldn't have this kind of reservations, but I'm not as well versed in smartphone tech as I am with computers.
>>
>>108431213
Honestly if its being gangraped by the government and liberals or just walking into the woods, I'd choose the latter. I'm lucky enough that I had a really shit life growing up and I spent around 10 years being a landscaper to scratch enough money to afford college and graduate, so I'm more than capable of doing that, if you aren't I feel bad for you and I mean that genuinely and not in an antagonistic way.
Technology is my hobby and I love it, but I'm not going to sacrifice my privacy for convenience, I'd rather just go full Amish if that's the way things are going.

Not at all madam, just don't groom my kids or do weird degenerate shit during pride months and I have no problem with you. The moment you start involving kids, going nude in public, or walking around with dildos in public is when I start having an issue with you.

>>108431262

That's disgusting. Walking around with a buttplug is perfectly fine because it's concealed and that's what makes it hot. But a dildo? Only a real weirdo would do something like that.
