Watches are technology. What watch do you wear? Electric, analog, whatever! Post watches!!

Pixel watches, are they any good?

When i was a kid. My autism was to draw the watches of the future. They were essentially smart phones on ur wrist. I just wish the future cotniued to bloat out digital watches rather than adopt smart watches.

I wanted a watch that had radio, face time, mp3 player, mobie player, phone like power rangers, calculator etc

I refuse to wear a watch that needs to be charged basically every day, and also refuse to wear a watch that doesn't have an always-on display (or where the always-on mode is crippled or destroys battery life).
That rules out any OLED watch and, of the major brands, basically leaves Garmin. Unfortunately they're moving towards OLED too but you can still get MIP models for now. I have an older forerunner (255 music) that I'm very happy with, but not sure what its replacement will be.

I have an Apple watch but the thing gives me anxiety. Moving and sport becomes something I want to do to fill the rings instead of enjoying it. Also whenever I walk around, I keep thinking "I wonder how this logs on my watch". It's anti-human, so I replaced the watch with a casio. Either pick related or a GWM5610-1. Notifications are a blight in general as well so I'm happy I don't need to deal with them anymore whenever I glance to my watch.

Just got the Gemini Enduro 3.the one with the solar charging and right now after 5 days of no charge, I'm sitting on 29 days before a battery charge is needed.
I don't have all the bells and whistles on, though. Just have text, and todo list turned on. Extraneous things like blood o2 levels and pulse and maps/gps is turned off. Full battery at this use level give me over 37 days without needing a battery charge, or changing my basement living conditions. That is insane when you consider it also has solar charging built in. If I step outside in the sun, for a few hours of biking or walking etc, I can get another day of charge.
MIPs is here to stay, I think. Pic is a garmin girl wearing a fenix and an enduro watch, some random search result.

speaking of watches and /g/, since some of us are developers developes developers...
Apparently, you can sell custom watch faces on garmin site and play store. Garmin has a watch face that sells for like 5 dollars a download, and the theme is Fallout Shelter pipboy look. I was thinking how hard could it be to 1. build/code a watch face for a theme of something and 2. sell on playstore or garmin site.
I've built a fart app for smartphones but i installed it directly to the phone, and that was easy but actually selling the face online, requires version and bug control and probably complex selling requirements to be on the play store or the garmin interface for face sales.
Maybe there is a github group for FOSS watch faces to get my feet wet.

I want that but the fuckhuge size kind of kills it for me and my bitch ass wrists. Makes it a hiking only watch which isnt worth it compared to just getting a regular Garmin Handheld GPS.
The compromise is a 43mm Fenix 8, but then you lose the solar and the battery life isnt impressive.

smartwatches are shit
they are to wrists and technology what VR headsets are to faces, ugly failed technology looking for a purpose. People carry phones universally. Phones tell the time. No watch required.

I got a pixel watch (Gen 1) in a contest a few years back and I'm pretty happy with it, though I don't know what to do with most of the information it gives me in regards to hours slept, steps taken etc. It's nice to be able to check and respond to messages on the fly without having to pull my whole phone out. Would it be worth upgrading to any of the later models , do they have any mind blowing new features that would be worth it?

Watch means you don't need to fiddle with your phone to check the time or stay updated on your notifications thoughbeit. Also fitness tracking is kino.
