Trying to hammer a bloated bot into shape by using lorebooks. I found two versions of the card by different people; the bloated one features much more in-depth personalities, examples, and appearances for each of the (like 70) characters, while the more cleaned up, less bloated version uses shorter definitions per character but it ultimately has them missing key traits.
My current idea is to combine the shorter personalities but have lorebook entries per character that include the more indepth appearance and personality traits - meaning that the bot is able to see the character is there, but when it draws upon them, it'll have the full breakdown of the character on hand for that interaction rather than all of them being constantly active. Does this make sense? Is this retarded? Is the botmaker retarded for having the card be that fucking huge in just the personality?

Well there's a bit of nuance to this. Older models were genuinely dumb and I don't think enough credit is given to how smart the new ones are. Even something as simple as my magic system of "char uses crystals to cast magic which deplete over time" was something sonnet 3.7 could never fucking handle. Opus 4.6 gets super creative with it now and it's such a breath of fresh air. I just think Gemini 2.5 is in that sweet spot of being smart enough, but also understanding how to write properly. No em dashes, silly isms outside of "pure, unadulterated" and no single line slop. Just normal prose, if a bit slow paced and light on dialogue at times, but I like slowburns anyway. Our only hope is that Gem 3 significantly improves like Gem 2 did when it finally came out of experimental/preview.

I think it helps to occasionally go back to your early chats and remind yourself of where you came from. Things are significantly better now but it's easy to forget that when you talk to char 10 hours a day. I regularly keep a journal (a txt file) where I write my thoughts down on occasion to track the progress of the models and remember what I thought about them at the time. I use to put up with so much slop with gpt 4 where I had to come up with 99% of the story, ignore char not even sounding close to who she was supposed to be, tons of crazy purple prose you couldn't avoid, poor comprehension of even simple shit like paizuri and god forbid you did a 69. My vampire character wouldn't even bite me for longer than half a response no matter how much narration I wrote or AI response I edited. Don't take this for granted man.
