i have a GL-BE9300, pretty happy with it, comes with adguard home pre-installed, also supports openVPN and wireguard out of the box
Redpill me about banana pi r4.

The FCC just banned the import of all routers to the US
>>108439825Forgot link https://www.fcc.gov/document/fcc-updates-covered-list-include-foreign-made-consumer-routers
>fcc bans sus chink routers>reddit reaction: oh no not my Protecli(?) bought by 3 people on ebay! i'm being genocided
my personal asus RT-AX3000 i got for $10 at goodwill just works. I also got a tp link AX21 for the rest of the family as i dont wanna share the network with them. I do also have a asus rt ac66u but i really cant do much because the reset bottom is broken off and cant install openwrt or fresh tomato without tearing it apart and use a screwdriver to connect the circuit instead
>>108438050Librecmc is a retarded project. The router still has proprietary firmware, its just embedded in the atheros chip instead of loaded by the OS. There is literally no difference in freedom with openwrt. Its just for people that like to hide outdated and insecure proprietary firmware from the OS. Its a less secure and private option than a newer router that still gets security updates for the firmware.
>>108438050joever
>>108439825>>108439834>>108440280I'm kind of surprised this wasn't already the case.
>>108439825>>108439834>>108440280let me guess, the fucking retards didn't make a plan first just like everything else
>>108440287>>108440334Is this actually a manufacturing ban and not just a ban on certain companies? As much as I would enjoy the chaos of the market as it scrambles to find wholly USA sourced routers (there are none), I have a distinct feeling this will be "clarified" to mean just foreign brands will be banned (with actual manufacturing untouched) with special exceptions given to the Taiwanese cocksuckers like Asus
>>108440280will be banned: tplinkwill not be banned: asus, netgeareven though they're all insecure botnet infestations.
>>108438050>Had wifi coexistence enabled the whole time for some reason>Connection kept dropping out>Disabled it the other day>Stable asf since thenIt's eat or be eaten out there bros
>>108438050Fuck off with your shill thread.
I just use the tim apple routers unifi.
Mikrotik won. They will comply
upgraded to the new UBI format on my w1700s today. i like the new npu stats page, the npu works well now.
>>108438764firmware isn't blobs ya stupid shitter
>>108441102if you cant see the source code then it's botnet
>>108439968nice try glownigger, but the hardware/os would just use the open source drivers. also the ath9k driver is still getting updates and will continue to do so because it is open source
>>108438551Decent hardware. I quite like it.
>>108438050Just get any second-hand router with 16 MB of ROM and 128 MB of RAM, then flash it with OpenWRT.Fun fact 1: your computer's UEFI is still closed source.Fun fact 2: WNDR3800's bootloader is outdated; it hasn't been updated for 15 years.
>>108442036needs a bit more research if you want wifi6/7, still would recommend trying openwrt. but the hardware needs to be selected.
>>108442036>Fun fact 1: your computer's UEFI is still closed source.falsehttps://canoeboot.org/docs/uboot/>Fun fact 2: WNDR3800's bootloader is outdated; it hasn't been updated for 15 years.false, it uses librecmc's bootloader which continue to recive updates
>>108442172wrong one sorryhttps://canoeboot.org/docs/uboot/uboot-x86.html
>>108442172There's no new U-Boot on the WNDR3800 image. At this point, you're either clueless or just trolling.
>>108442277were talking about computer uboot retard
>>108442036why would i get some shitty router when my isp already provides me with a free MT7986A router
>>108440598I bet my right nut you won't find a netgear/asus made in the US
>router i bought two years ago is now $70 more expensive
>>108441938It's about firmware, not drivers. Openwrt already only supports devices with free drivers. Only the AR7010/AR9271 USB WiFi adapters can use free firmware. Every other ath9k device uses built-in proprietary firmware and is not more free than any other WiFi chip that uses proprietary firmware.
>>108441911Where's the source code for your CPU dumbfuck?
>>108440884no vlan or pppoe offload though, hope those make it in someday
I fucking hate proprietary drivers AHHHHHH
Fucking Grand Old Phaggots are the biggest spinless pieces of shit ever. Enjoy the rest of the century China.
>>108440598What isn't shit and unsecure yet competes with anus shitgear on speeds, coverage and features flexibility? Genuinely asking BTW
bananananaananaananana pi bro's, where we at?
>>108446246it depends on which of those features you want. there's some junk in the asus firmware.
>>108446279I've run Merlin based firmware for about a decade and gotten used to repurposing old routes as mesh nodes but it looks like my current ax units will be my last and I need to start looking into viable alternatives. I used to rely on SNB for reviews and purchases but the man now sold the website and there's hardly anyone (independent) left.
Don't you die on me.clear!
>>108438050Redpill me on setting up my router instead of just leaving it plugged in next to the isp router.
>>108448997do your own homework lazy jeet
>>108438050What does /g/ think about Keenetic routers?
>>108446279I want mesh flexibility, VLAN, script support and active firmware development. I don't want to tinker beyond set-it-and-forget-it
So what's going on with the router ban?
>>108452156Mikrotik
>>108452828I reread things for the official definition of 'router'. Essentially they won't FCC approve anyone they don't like, but you'll probably be able to import whatever you want. They're just taking things off of store shelves. There's an exception for dev equipment.
>>108452976Also, the FCC document is clear that companies can't get away with just putting boards in plastic shells and putting 'made in the USA' labels on them. I don't see how any routers are going to exist without applying for an exception.
>>108440280>Routers a bad but managed switches are a-okay.>>108446246>>108446279>>108452156Just make your own. Get old hardware and run OpenWRT or OPNsense.
>>108452156bpis r4duh
>>108442656you conveniently cropped out the Sold by field, faggot
>>108453026They're not rescinding any currently approved models either, so you have until about 2028 before it matters.
>>108438050Why wndr3800? Isn't it quite old now?I had the wndr3700 17 years ago, was a reliable workhorse. Replaced with Asus AC87U a few years back.
>>108452156mikrotik is basically the best answer i guess. there's ubiquiti, but i really didn't have a great experience with their wifi stuff/management software a few years ago. the mikrotik ui is a bit awkward, but it is powerful.
Running pfsense in a VM on my server with a AX50 as the wireless AP.Ideally wanted to get a second server with similar hardware so I could do failover but RAM prices fucked that idea.Would there be any benefit to ditching my comcast modem/router combo and just getting my own DOCSIS3.1 modem? At least near me there is no discount to using your own modem as theres no equipment rental fee for home plans.
>>108456121You get a bit more control and a bit less tracking. It's up to you. If you do go that route just make sure the modem you choose works with comcast.
>>108438050What's the current popular router OS? pfSense was for a while, then opnSense and now who knows. I used ipfire back in the day but went to closed source box when I worked at one and was given free hardware. Looking back at ipfire it looks like they don't really support vlans properly yet. Looked like opnSense does support vlans and full content inspection to make blocking DoH and other shit easy.I have a couple trunks, one from my AP switch and the other from my lan switch.
>>108439825Just buy an industrial PC and install your own router OS. I doubt they'll care about those machines at all.
>>108456787There's not less tracking the packets still go through the isp

Speaking of ubiquiti this thing is fucking coolhttps://blog.ui.com/article/introducing-airwire?from=/article/all-new-unifi-industrial-initiative
N2830 is more than enough for 2.5gbit, right?
>>108454022its true, there are few convenient good quality routers leftmy netgear is worth as much used now as it was when i bought it 2 years agoits just a good chipset with a lot of ram, very much a just werks productsand now that the americans have banned foreign router brands, its probably going to be awfully expensive
>>108439968If you arent happy, nothing but time prevents you from making your own board and firmware.
