The first rocket launch was on March 16 1926

Humans haven’t made any new space traveling technology in 100 years. How pathetic

yeah and we still boil water to make electricity
>>
I just learned we still plant seeds to grow plants
wtf

if rockets are so good at "getting" into "space" then how come there's no rocket 2?
checkmate sciencetards

its not profitable

>Humans haven’t made any new space traveling technology in 100 years.
I mean, you could also say that all modern cars aren't any new technology than a Model T Ford, but that would be dumb.

yes we have they're just not very good

It's true, that won't be true the moment flying cars are made

We're working on boiling salt now

ICE and rocket engines actually have pretty similar efficiency gains in terms of percentages over 100 years.
First goddard rocket had an ISP of ~200, with hydrogen/LOX engines being ~440
Model T engine had a thermal efficiency of maybe ~15% with modern engines hitting 30-35%

In 100 years we managed to over the double efficiency with rockets actually have a step ahead because hydrogen/LOX engines actually came out in the 60s.

What about nuclear power?

What the fuck I've been lied to all my life. I thought uranium just radiated electricity and shit or something

Space exploration has huge potential to make money but we’re nowhere near smart enough to figure out a better way to travel in space
>>
>>108440952
The Moon has been in space for way longer and it doesn't even need rockets.
>>
>>108440952
I've just checked your contributions to the field of Space Travel and its literally at 0%.

seems you're the problem here
>>
>>108440952
no humans have actually been into true outer Space, its far too dangerous. we just orbit the Earth in the safe zone.

want proof?

Ask yourself why Elon Musk, a man who owns a fleet of spaceships has never actually been into space himself.
>>
>>108440952
Do you think a rocket it just a big tube with fire inside?
>>
>>108444001
when dont we attach a ladder from Earth to the Moon and just climb into space? no rockets needed.
>>
>>108444107
Ancient Egyptians had the right idea. If we had just kept doing what they started we'd be in space right now.
>>
>>108444078
A rocket is just a fancy way to make a fire. It’s oogabooga caveman technology
>>

RTG's exist but aren't very efficient.

Fifteen years, actually.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_sail
>The two spacecraft to successfully use the technology for propulsion were IKAROS, launched in 2010, and LightSail-2, launched in 2019.[1]
Before the solar sail, the most recent development in space travel technology was the Ionic Thruster Drive, not the rocket.
Takeoff technology, well, Orion hit the point of development but will never be treaty-legal.

>>108444413
Too slow
>>
>>108444107
Why don't we just build a moon on earth. Then we can just hop on and go.
>>
>>108443304

you can imagine difference of 7hp and 100hp in same size engine block
>>
If we cant figure out how to travel faster then light then we’re going to be confined to earth and go extinct

Technically you could have beta decay generate electricity, as beta decay is just electrons (charge) in motion which is electricity.
>>
>>108446766
A rocket going in reverse is still a rocket. The direction of movement doesn’t change what it is

Indeed. The trash they produce is also not free to store. If you add the cost of nuclear power plant + nuclear waste storage together, you realize that it's the most expensive form of electricity generation there is.
