Even the 0.8B parameter model can call tools reliably (I tested it in Codex) and it knows a surprising amount about coding and that's the most retarded model listed. 9b can run on any shitty PC and is solid for most things. When you use a frontier cloud model they're mostly MoE so what's actually active when you use them for something like coding is orders of magnitude smaller than the main model itself. They're only so big because they're general purpose and need a lot of internal knowledge which more parameters gives you. You can easily get away with 4-30B paremeter models that are more focused on specific tasks like coding and because they're small, the community can easily fine-tune them so you can just use a fine-tune for whatever you need, like NSFW shit.
