I’ve been playing on Steam for a long time, in addition to consoles. The thing is, my current computer has low specs, so, naturally, there are many games I can’t run—many of which I bought in the hope of playing in the future, once I have a new machine capable of running them. However, I’ve been wondering which system I should choose: the upcoming Steam Machine or a gaming PC. Personally, I prefer the experience of home consoles and feel more immersed in gaming that way; on the other hand, a gaming PC should be able to handle everything, running all the games I want without any compatibility issues getting in the way.

Currently, I only use my computer to play low-spec games and run some useful programs in my daily life. If I end up buying a Steam Machine, I’ll probably switch to standard computers without needing to stick to excessively high specs in the future. What do you think?

i think you should get the steam machine because you enjoy console gaming and it can (probably) play the games you have been wanting to play, plus it can be used as a desktop anyway if you needed to use it like that for whatever reason

Well we can't give a recommendation until there is a price for the steam machine. If you are looking for a device with legs you should build a computer with 16 gigs and a 5060ti or a 9060xt 16 gig model for either; not because they are great value right now, but eventually playstation 6 will release despite delays and should make AAA gayming at 8gigs of vram rough. But it doesn't matter as OP will motte and bailey that the device that has no price is the best option.

If you are ignorant of specs the Machine is a nice toy PC and will be an impovement to most potatoes running steam, but at the end of the day it is 600 dollars in Laptop parts clocked to desktop speed; we will find out if it is a decent poverty PC soonish.

a cheap ryzen 7 h 255 mini pc is $350 and has completely acceptable on board graphics
the steam machine is going to have to be REALLY cheap to compensate being REALLY underpowered compared to its chinkshit contemporaries, even if they overclock that 3 year old chip significantly
