In 3 years:

If you want to play video games or are a Linux enthusiast, buy a steam deck or a steam machine.

If you want to do creative tasks or just browse the internet, buy a MacBook neo or mac mini

What will be left for windows exactly? For normal people who use computers for gaming or YouTube?
>>
>>108451055
But what if I want to do both, mr. retarded faggot OP?
>>
>>108451055
>creative tasks
those will be ported to linux too
>browse the internet
literally any pc made in the last decade can already do that
>>
>>108451081
Buy a normal PC and install Linux then.
>>
>>108451084
The MacBook neo has 16h battery life, is quiet and doesn't get hot with good build quality. It's just objectively better for those tasks than windows laptops.

Unlikely that any company will develop an arm implementation for Linux on laptops that could compete so Macs will be your best option

And for desktop/gaming, just use the steam machine

neo
378 minutes/37 watts = 10.22 watts per minute

5% more efficient at best and that's competing against windows
it stands no chance against linux

it's a stopgap and it's already fucking excellent at that, it beats native windows in many cases

fyi Wine run fine on macOS, and the GPUs on Apple Silicon chips are surprisingly capable; an M4 Max will match an RTX 3070 (desktop, not doing the retarded comparison with laptop chips)
eg: https://nanoreview.net/en/gpu-compare/geforce-rtx-3070-vs-apple-m4-max-gpu-40-core

can you play any game just fine on them? yes, as long as it works through wine or has a mac version

if it's just for the shitpost, fine

Valve is retarded for pushing wine/proton as the le epic gaming platform.

Imagine relaying on a retarded emulator that plays catch up to windows in every single aspect of its existence.

Fun fact steamies (I know one IRL a zoomer) will spam the internet how great Steam Deck is and how they totally will buy one, however the zoomer never buys any steam deck.

Got a friend who's been trying to run Genshin on Cachy. It's no longer working for him, so he's been playing on his phone for the past few weeks or so. I play Genshin, HSR, and ZZZ, and I don't want to fight a program that doesn't always want to run in Proton, so I'm gonna have to keep using Windows for gaming purposes. At least for now.

I can't use Winjeet or Deepakdroid any longer. If something doesn't work between Linux and Apple, I don't need to use it. There are gaming addicts who are going to keep using Windows so they can play League of Legends. The spyware was okay when the product underneath worked well. There were always workarounds for everything. The H1B devs have spent the last 5 or so years focused exclusively on closing every loophole, while the quality of the product has degraded to full on Pajeet duct tape. The future of Android is in China. Once Google fucks the AOSP hard enough, which they want to do as soon as possible, the Chinese will make their own phone OS as a successor.

>>108454927
no, it just shows that everything good about apple is down to tsmc
when they're made on comparable process nodes muh apple magic evaporates, that aspire laptop would stomp it if the entire office suite was on linux
the reason that apple has any sort of lead is that amd, nvidia and intel can't just waste money on newest process nodes
because they're serious companies that power the digital world with their silicon
apple makes cult fetishes for spoiled adults that they charge a premium for
>>
>>108455073
and 3DMark is not representative of gaming performance? nor any of the other tests for which they do have numbers?
unfortunately measured on macbook pro not mac mini/studio since they seem laptop-focused, but have more I guess: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Apple-M4-Max-40-core-GPU-Benchmarks-and-Specs.920457.0.html

wow, all the PC manufacturers must be really stupid and you really really smart!
you could change the industry if you enlightened them of that fact which they are surely not aware of!
you realize this is the stupidest fucking take on this board, and the bar is low, because other companies would immediately jump to do the same thing if it was as simple as spending a bit more to reserve some TSMC capacity

>>108454927
>might have been even more efficient if Apple got rid of the liquid glass everywhere
>kind of like how Microsoft got rid of Aero glass in Windows 8 because the Surface RT couldn't handle it.
it looks similar on the surface, but the technology and hardware diff between now and then is incomparable
the cost of running it nowadays on modern enough hardware is basically zero; I'm sure it's technically measurable, with enough effort, but if it's greater than 2-3% we would know by now
>>
>>108455203
yes, retard, stop sucking off apple and pretending they're some voodoo magic

why yes apple has been the only one taking advantage of TSMC magic for the past... let me check... 6 years now!
and I presume you think Intel has also been very gracefully letting AMD munch on their ass just because they're serious and "need to consider more" things, and that AMD hasn't competed with nvidia on GPUs for 15 years for the same reasons
the world must look very confusing and strange when you have the comprehension abilities of a teaspoon and refuse to accept reality at every step of the way

moving slower and wanting cost effective, mature silicon matters when you power the world
when you're apple and just make expensive overpriced toys that get by on their cultish reputation, it doesn't
apple's shit doesn't go into servers or datacenters
>>
>>108455470
>moving slower and wanting cost effective, mature silicon matters when you power the world
yeah that really matters for the 78th iteration of some random acer aspire
>apple's shit doesn't go into servers or datacenters
not only has nobody talked about DC usage, you're still talking about 6 years delay which is inconsistent with time to market, even in the server space
see: Intel's cadence between desktop and Xeons, AMD's time between Ryzen and EPYC, and literally just bouncing at least a few of your braincells
yes you probably delay 1 year, maybe 2, but not 6. you're just being obtuse cause you're mad
>>
>>108451145
>>108455359
Not how that works, you also have to factor in performance per watt, battery capacity and exclude peripherals (neo has a much higher resolution screen for example). If you look up actual numbers M4 chips are 4-10x more efficient than x86 depending on the workload and Qualcomm is closing in. x86 is as good as done for, even factoring in high performance non mobile machines.
>>
>>108455588
>yeah that really matters for the 78th iteration of some random acer aspire
yeah, exactly, it fucking doesn't
but it does when you desperately need to prove something like Intel with its tumultuous position
that acer aspire with lunar lake v is within margin of error of the neo and beats everything else with M5 in it even with the handicap of windows bloat

and yes, that delay matters a lot more when you want a stable, mature node and it doesn't just go into apple toys
or you end up believing that fucking nvidia has an incentive to hold back nodes as if 3nm wouldn't make them an absolute ass load of money right now
