It's not like this is a new phenomenon, either. People have been shouting at the top of their lungs about passive consumption (TV) versus more active or creative endeavors. Hell, even reading books and playing video games are more mentally active than watching videos like a zombie.
I don't think a lot of people want to ditch technology, they just want a better technology landscape. If you ask people if they want to return to hunter-gather societies where access to edible food and clean drinkable water weren't guaranteed, and you were lucky to make it to 35, they would probably say "no thanks."
