Is it possible to get into Linux after using windows for 15 years?
No.
>>108457490Yes it's just a computer after all.Just wait for a while and this thread will be filled with distro shills who think every distro is a different operating system.
>>108457490Install GNU+Gentoo Linux.
LFS or Gentoo
>>108457490that's what i did
>>108457490>to get into LinuxDo you mean" ``interested in and fascinated by operating systems and the personal computing choices they allow''? Sure, why not?
dont expect everything to be the same as you expectdont be scared of terminal because it's actually way easier to usedownload linux mint whichever version but cinnamon is the popular one

>>108457614well daw is tricky but doable biggest issues is vsts and for video editing youre pretty much limited to davinci resolve
I used Windows for 30 years before switching to Linux.
>>108457490no, it's over
>>108457490I used windows my entire life and only last year i migrated to mint because of my windows 10 computers not being able to update to windows 11. Yes it's possible.
>>108457626>30 yearsYou were using windows before the gui?

>>108457664>what is ltscout of curiosity, how was the experience?
>>108457490In 2017 it was possible. I had been using windows since I was born in 1997, and I switched no problem
I just didJust ignore the noise and go straight to arch

>>108457847It's a boy innit.
>>108457671If you subtract 30 from 2025, you get 1995. Windows was gui based and existed well before that.

>>108457490It's easier than ever. Just choose KDE or Cinnamon as your DE, depending on whether you prefer a Windows 10 or XP type environment.
>>108458166what's the problem?
>>108457671>You were using windows before the gui?Literally impossible since the defining feature of Windows was the fact it had a GUI, which is where the name is derived. Windows is like 40 years old now btw, but most people just used DOS until 3.1 and 95

>>108457490catbox?
>>108457490Yes.
>>108457677I've heard its much better written in terms of optimization and performance, it even runs well on slow hard drives, has less restrictions, no automatics updates, no bloatware/spyware,it offers more flexibility and you can customize it fully from scratch.
>>108457490>windows for 15 yearsSo you are a kid whose first computer experience was with the still-modern Windows 7?Dude, my first Windows was 3.11 and I jumped to Linux a few years ago.NEVER going back to Windows.
>>108457614>DAWThis one is challenging. Bitwig Studio, Reaper and Ardour are your options, all run natively on Linux and are not memes.>Video EditingDaVinci Resolve runs natively on Linux and is used even outside of Linux. Otherwise, Kdenlive, Shotcut, OpenShot, Olive are occasionally recommended
People overestimate both, the positives and negatives of Linux. For most people 95% of the experience will be the same.

>>108457490I've used Windows for 21 years. Have been on Linux for 1 and a half now. Yeah, you can, if you're not braindead
>>108457490I've been using Fedora for about a month and a half after using Windows for my entire life and after the first 2 hours of getting shit set up I've had basically no issue. The only thing that I miss from Windows is Musicbee, which is pretty much the one thing I haven't been able to get working in Wine. Everything else has been perfect for me.Now post the full image, for fucks sake
>>108457490No, because that's grim. It's like living your whole life in a city and expecting city shit and then moving into the woods, you will not cope well.Just like the bible "Parable of the Prodigal Son" you will be back in Windows there is a 90% chance you be back. but don't worry it's not all wasted time you have learned something at least.
>>108457490Yeah, I switched to Mint seamlessly a year and a half ago during the recall bullshit. The moment you're done with the install and realize your PC belongs to you and you ALONE, you'll curse yourself for EVER putting up with windows bullshit.>update manager only does what I tell it to do>background tasks are minimal, no telemetry>doesn't try to install apps I don't want, I don't need any workarounds or hacks or scripts running>It just worksIf I ever need to install windows 11 on anything it takes hours to fucking update, I fucking HATE (HATE) that wreck of an operating system Microslop should burn down.
>>108459534Terrible comparison. I've been on this shithole for at least 18 years and I have to say this is probably one of the only times I was sure someone was retarded
>>108459595>Terrible comparison. I've been on this shithole for at least 18 years and I have to say this is probably one of the only times I was sure someone was retardedNo, I stand with my initial take, you do not have the tools and quality of life windows has accumulated over the years. Every distro is a compromise and has something wrong with it and you have to fix first day, on the Windows side you can just install LTSC or heck Server and you have far less shit to do then on Linux. Do the annual consumer versions of Windows suck? Yes, but they have always sucked in comparison to the enterprise offering However getting an enterprise version of linux is somehow worse than using something like fedora or arch as you are living in past and shit just doesn't get fixed when you run into them that was the worst thing about the ubuntus and debians and redhats (even though I do like it far better, I like dnf). It's a forest of roses and you are getting these thorns into you, too many fucking papercuts. Also, I fucking despise the community so fucking much no reasonable people so you are on your own. I still use Linux on and off because it is the server OS and has a 55% marketshare on all types of servers, so this is still useful knowledge even though I don't use it on my PC as the main OS.
>>108459802On Linux I'm perfectly fine the second I install Mint from the ISO, it takes minutes to update while windows takes hours on the same internet connection on the same machines.CachyOS even makes Arch easy these days. One day I turned on my windows laptop after not using it for a while and it said>Sorry Anon, your log in pin doesn't work anymore, please connect to the internet to fix this.I was floored, I hadn't even fucking used the thing and it somehow broke its own login system and then forced me to connect to the fucking internet to log in. Windows is NOT easier and it does NOT have any features that are more useful for the average consumer. What it has is an unethical stranglehold on industry standard software for no actual reason at this point.
>>108459842I remember using Windows 7 Home Premium offline for a few months, and it deactivated on me.
>>108457490Is it possible to be into women after being a faggot for 15 years?
>>108457707It's all right, if you are going to install programs from the distro's store it's basically painless and not different from using windows on Mint at least. If you have some problems you will have to use terminal though, probably a similar experience to using powershell or cmd on windows. In any case with using a new OS let your important stuff in a separated drive or partition, don't trust them.>what is ltscI could have done that but i decided to free myself from windows to see how it's. Also my laptop and desktop had real windows licenses. It kinda defeats the point of them if i'm going to pirate windows versions now.Oh i forgot, the biggest change will be with programs, most of them are not the same unless if you were using free software on windows already, then yes you will be familiar with them.
>>108457490It's impossible. Give up.
