Is there a way to use my laptop to connect to a rack server?

I need bios level control sometimes and lugging a monitor, cables, keyboard and mouse around is kind of heavy (but not impossible).

any sug/g/estions?

Management port?

through the iDRAC? ideally, but not always enabled on Surveillance servers

Used to work for a company that was hosting a bunch of HP servers that all came with an ILO system. All ILO hubs received a static 192.168.0.0. IP, making them inaccessible from the outside. We'd SSH onto a server with X forwarding enabled and then opened a browser on whatever internal IP we had to manage.

Good thing was, we could access the server even if the OS was down - as long as at least one machine in the network was still up we could configure the machine how we needed.

cool story but that's not really applicable here

no jump server
no external network

But you still have an IP-accessible management port?

do your servers not have serial management? or do you need GUI for some reason

does your server have a way to do all that through USB-C? you could use something like a nexdock.

no, they dont enable those for security reasons.

ATEN make a software level KVM but its a bit hit or miss apparently (reading online)

here's a pic of the nexdock i forgot to attach. it's basically just a keyboard, trackpad and screen, it doesn't have a computer inside. it apparently works with computers too.
otherwise what you're looking for would be called a crash cart i guess.

That Nexdock is pretty cool but the server doesn't have USB C

Absolute trash. Mouse and keyboard is the only way

Do the servers have a BMC?

vga is just shitty for modern hardware since its obsolete
all modern solutions require digital video, doesnt matter which since dvi/hdmi/dp are all compatible
>>
>>108457787
Would a KVM not be the ideal solution here?

Price?

that's a KVM (keyboard video mouse)

If you have to ask, then you can't afford it.
>>

yes, and it would be the most obvious thing to anyone that ever actually dealt with servers
but op is an unemployed larp writing fantasy erotica as a thread

This seems like a job for a pikvm/nanokvm/etc with a static IP and an Ethernet connection to your PC. You can also get cheap 1080p USB video capture devices which rely on the UVC stack (webcam drivers, built into all relevant OSes) which will accept an HDMI or adaptered DVI input from the server. You'll still have to figure out how you're sending keystrokes, tho. You could pack a little tiny wireless thumboard keyboard with a USB RF receiver.

If the servers still have some HD15 VGA gack on them, you can get an active converter to change that to HDMI out, btw. USB powered via a cable.
