it's over for doctors
>>108458589bro got that icy ahh drip
So far LLMs couldn't figure my problems out.
the problem with healthcare is that there are too few doctors to really understand the underlying causes of the illness or problems of the patients and no one wants to do anything against that. A llm won't solve that might educate the general public but then it will also be used to push retarded propaganda like covid vaccine being safe.

>go to specialist doctor for help>spend a grand total of 3 minutes with the actual doctor>the doctor spends the entire time completely disinterested in anything you say, looking mildly annoyed that you're even interacting with him>tells you to take whatever drug the pharmaceutical company paying is salary is pushing that week>that'll be $5000This isn't a case of LLMs being good, this is a case of doctors being so incredibly bad that a hallucinating bullshit engine can do a more useful job than they can.
How fucking retarded are the doctors in India?
>>108458589>brown guy in the front>brown hands in the backhuh wonder why your 3rd world top 'doctors' couldn't figure it out
>>108458589Does he just have sleep apnea?
>>108458768>tells you to take whatever drug the pharmaceutical company paying is salary is pushing that weekthat's not how that works. the doctor prescribes what they think is going to be best to try first, then the insurance company denies coverage because they have to pretend to be actually doing something, so doc says ok get this drug in capsules, the insurance will deny it saying they only cover pressed pills, as if it makes literally any difference.

Like hey doc, what if this one's actually not related to my other condition, why are we chained to your initial hypothesis until you give up? And people think MDs are the "real" doctors.
Medfag here.We need to start regulating AI chatbots to prevent them from giving medical advice. You should only trust a trained professional.

>>108458652In truth being a doctor is extremely easy, the problem is that 99.9% of the population is made of retards and that includes doctors of medicine, a problem worsened by the fact that everyone is forced into university nowadays and that universities aren't filtering out people. One easy way to tell if one wasn't fit for it is if they struggled with the exams.
I've only asked it one thing. Why do I get consistent nagging burning pain near the mid exterior of my right knee after prolonged periods of sitting and driving in the car, or at my desk? I figured my knee must be partially torn or cooked in some way and that surgery was on the near horizon. It said it was bursitis and all I needed to do was make sure to avoid sitting with the knees at 90 degrees for too long, stretch it more throughout the day, did so and it's gone away. Doctor would have tried to sell me a $10k surgery.I remember my little sister got double "acl tear" replacement surgery when she was 13 despite being able to walk fine and not showing any real signs of serious injury, I wonder if they scammed her.

>>108458840my health record is very documented but they always insist on sticking fingers up my anus to confirm that my ulcerative colitis is still there. they want to slow everything down because it means they can do less work
>>108459058Very possible, keep in mind that diagnosis is merely a question of knowledge + variables A(symptoms) + variables B (circumstances such as age, environment, diet, traumas etc) + statistics and then going from most probable to least probable, generally doctors are really bad at math so statistics go out of the window, then their knowledge is usually limited sometimes more sometimes less and at the end, they get instructed by protocols, so if they see X issue they order Y analysis into Z treatment instead of looking into the least invasive and cheapest treatment of the root cause. If someone worked into making a serious medical AI non-surgeons would be out of the job in less than 10 years, I'm 100% serious, but that would require highly skilled medical professionals to work with the LLMs to make sure their training yields the correct results and I don't think that even the greediest of them is willing to kill his entire profession for some money, not to mention how arrogant they are about the years they spent studying just to be outskilled by a computer within a few years.
>>108458876your Doctor is Indian. as are all Doctors now.its over whiteboy
>>108459094SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR
>>108459091Yeah, outside of the ones that have an actual skill, like surgery, this could be like a doomsday level event for them. Think about what a doctor is in 2026. Usually someone that just absorbed a shit ton of knowledge and studied their ass off for years, and tons of debt. A walking encyclopedia. But that's worthless now. They're lucky medicine is so highly regulated and gatekept or else they'd be getting fucked harder/faster than anyone else. They do have other components of their job that make them somewhat necessary. They're kind of like the "final decision maker" and responsible party in the room of nurses and admins, so still kind of a boss or manager, and the need for that never goes away. But I could see the numbers getting cut down drastically as one doctor starts taking on a lot more patients and clears most of the overhead work with AI.
>>108459112>>108459091To that end I don't like what medical school has become, fit and optimized for bookworm girls and Indians basically. Not people who are savvy, intuitive, good with their hands, good people skills, like docs used to be back in the male dominated days. Maybe the devaluation of sheer rote memorization will be an overall good thing for the field and reintroduce emphasis on natural talents and abilities not your ability to sit in a chair and read for 12 hours a day. This is the big thing that discouraged me from pursuing it, sounded like brain melting hell.
>go to Doctor, tell him your problem>he googles what do to>that'll be $1000 pleasethe sooner these frauds are overtaken by AI the better. Medical School is pointless
>>108459028>In truth being a doctor is extremely easywhat is it with /g/ lately thinking medicine is easy? fucking jane street larpers.
>>108459058>>108459091AI is actually quite useful for medical diagnosis because AI is effectively a context engine. If you feed it shitloads of context on what your issues and symptoms are, it can spit out a string of words that correlates to that.I think what others are saying about doctors is also true, with many being disinterested or prone to thinking they know more about the patient's own body than the patient who actually feels the symptoms and deals with them regularly. Throw in time crunches, limited time with patients, and being insurance company bitches and you're going to get people who slip through those (large) cracks turning to alternatives.
>>108459122I think the problem lies in the role of universities, they were never meant to be for everyone and that is causing a lot of issues, because complete idiots that are given power by their titles are reaching positions where they are doing seriously damage, not just on a small scale, consider this, nowdays the emergency room and the family doctor is acting more like a technician than a doctor (doctor as meant in the true sense of the word, not on medical terms) and doctors need to be produced at a certain rate due to the fabric of society requiring X replacement every year as population increases, these "doctors" aren't really developing new cures or understanding diseases, they are simply following a script, an instruction manual given to them by government official on how to treat things, so that's what they are, technicians.
>>108459144Because I worked with doctors for 10 years and the dumbest people are within them, so tell me, what do you think is hard about becoming one?
>>108459168The average person is a 80iq mouthbreather that would struggle to correctly diagnose that their arm is broken even if there was a broken bone sticking out of their arm.I greatly appreciate all the "I know better" people going to AI models, because this will almost inevitably worsen the situation which is precisely what I wish upon those people. They are a plague, and the dumber they are the more convinced they are that they're right.

Human judgement in medical diagnosis has been known to be worthless since around 1970s. You can read all about that (e.g. Meehl, Kahneman).
>>108459325Doctors are kind of like a security blanket, a calming lie. Most of the time they're just shooting from the hip. But people need someone to talk to when they're sick. 99% of maladies resolve themselves and they know this, which is why they're so casual about it.>get rest, drink water, if you really must here's generic antibioticsThat's all it takes for most everything. Give it time, give it nutrition, don't stress the thing. But women, children, scared people, hysterical people, need an authority figure to talk to and calm them down. Well, a person in a chair with a computer isn't going to be able to actually figure that out. That takes extensive lab paneling, scanning, triage, and that's only going to be rolled out if it looks like you might actually be dying or are already in the ER doing so.My wife gets scared every single time she or a kid gets sick and is on the phone with the doctor like they aren't going to say the exact same thing every time "get rest, water, vitamins, monitor temperature" lol. By the time something gets serious your GP or PCP won't even be involved.

Do you want me to do that?”>”no I guess not”>”make sure to schedule your vaccine appointment with the people in the lobby okay?”After that I talked to Gemini and made a custom brace that didn’t interfere with work and fixed it myself for $0. Eternal reminder that your insurance provider could provide an infinitely better diagnosis then a doctor. But the only thing they'll do with this information is degrade the quality of your customer service for sick people so they get pissed and switch providers. Modern medicine is not nearly as advanced as people like to pretend it is.
i havent been to a doctor in like a decade or more
That's because doctors are just search engines with pants on and often downright stupid.Objectively thinking machine won't tell you that you're imagining things and takes every problem into account, while also having infinitely wider database.Machines are far superior compared to doctors in figuring out what's wrong with you.I've talked about the subject with nurses years ago and even back then they said it's likely general doctors are going to be replaced by a machine and a nurse combo.Only specialized doctors who actually work on people are going to remain a thing.
>>108459533>Modern medicine is not nearly as advanced as people like to pretend it is.The problem is that relatively speaking it's pretty advanced. There is a test for just about everything. I'm sure there's plenty of unknown phenomena out there, novel things that happen, etc. but 99.9% of the time in a modern medical setting there are diagnostics trees and tests available. A lot of doctors are simply incompetent.Imagine taking your car to a mechanic and they're like "yeah dunno lol". They would never. They would simply ask how much you would like to spend figuring it out at worst. At best they'd have a 50 year old grease monkey nerd in there that has every common problem for the last 30 years memorized. It's a bit apples and oranges but the standard for medicine is absolutely in the toilet in most places, and has no reason to be

>>108459568>Objectively thinking machine won't tell you that you're imagining thingsIt should, if that's the statistically most likely scenario. It's not hard to imagine a confluence of variables leading to such conclusion. Your thinking is precisely why doctors are still with us. Humans do not accept mechanistic predictions about themselves, if those do not square with their preconceptions.
>>108459729He's cured now. Doctors are worthless and always have been. Their only purpose is to gatekeep medical care and bankrupt hardworking innocent victims of disease. AI replaces doctors with something faster, better, and cheaper. It is not even a contest. Face it, flesh mechanic, your time is up and AI is now.
Why wasn't there just a database before AI? You have all diseases, you enter the symptoms, you get a bunch of tests. You enter the test results, it narrows it down further. I don't think there was ever room for much creativity.
>>108459786you know surgeons are doctors too, maybe don't burn those bridges just yet
>>108459820There is. The doctor is the ui.
>>108458589It's mostly a liability issue. We already have issues with positions like nurse practitioner giving people bad diagnoses and it causing big legal issues despite that person essentially being qualified and doctors likely getting it wrong in similar ways much of the time.I suspect that people will start to be more on board with AI to speed up basic triage for very obvious things as it becomes normalized, but the problem is that most medical issues can't just go away with drugs the way people think, so you'll get claude giving a bunch of 'it will get better on it's own in a few weeks', and while true 99.9% of the time, Most people will be like >I want to see the manager! Escalate my case!and we're right back to where we started, except that 0.1% of the time the person is actually sick, and then waits because claude told it to and dies, the hospital has to pay 250 million dollars.
>>108458652The real problem here is that the healthcare and insurance industry just lost a customer of 25 yearsYou're not supposed to be healed you nitwit, you're supposed to be perpetually treated as long as possible. >>108459058>Doctor would have tried to sell me a $10k surgery. You know doctors basically get commission, right? Don't trust them anymore than a mechanic when you went in for an oil change and now they're trying to convince you they need to replace the oil pump as well. Doctors literally try to upsell people on shit they don't need.My MIL was upsold on a hysterectomy because, y'know, there's an increased risk of cancer the older you get and you don't need that pesky uterus after menopause. She should have gone home to sleep in her bed that night, instead, they killed her.My daughter was born with a cyst behind her ear. At two years old we consulted our pediatrician, she said it's highly likely eating away at her skull. Could be fatal in like eight years but still not a good idea to have your skull being eroded away so get rid of it now.A week after the ultrasound my insurance comes back and says it wasn't "medically necessary", turns out ultrasounds on the head cost more, turns out ultrasounds on kids cost more. Hospital wanted $2,500 for it. Appealed to insurance, they said to go pound sand. Said the same thing for the surgery to remove it.I told the hospital to go pound sand for what literally was about a one minute process. Paid for surgery out of my own pocket. Never got insurance again.Hospital killed my dad too. They "forgot" to tell anyone that when he was discharged he had pneumonia after his lung surgery. lol oopsHe went back but his body was already weak. They kept chasing it. His doctor seemed inept and uncaring. He got basic details wrong. My father died a month later.I love America, but fuck the whole medical system.
>>108459820There were expert systems in the 80's that outperformed doctors in diagnoses. Again. Liability issues prevented broader adoption which stifled further improvements.
>>108459865>I love America, but fuck the whole medical systemFyi I'm from US, from birth to almost 30 years old. I don't love US, and I left. The medical system is a joke. The good thing about America is you can sue, and I hope you did.

Lawyer was pretty negative about it, said the state limits how much you could sue for, at least in regard to the subjective, e.g. "mental anguish", you can get recouped for all medical costs though. With my MIL it ended up being the same way. Different lawyer said the same shit. We went on for two years. The amount of shit you have to put up with from the other side is insane. They genuinely do it to wear you down. They say and accuse you of the worst things. It's like they hired shitposters from the worst parts of 4Chan as paralegals. Eventually they offered a settlement at a fraction of the state limit. My FIL took it, he clearly couldn't keep going. At the end of the day it's only money you get, too. Getting the doctors to be shown as being negligent, putting through a malpractice suit is nigh impossible. You basically would have to have video footage of them getting piss drunk, yelling slurs and claiming they're gonna go kill people at work cause they love to do that and then maybe after a few years it'll get heard in court after you've spent $100,000 in lawyer fees.

in the age of relatively cheap on-demand testing for blood, piss, and poop, a good LLM can really help you figure out chronic issues if you feed it data. gives you a systems-level perspective and has infinite patience for your questions. even if it hallucinates or gives you inconsistent answers based on context, it's still going to be 80-90% better than just googling. get data, feed data to llm, research what it suggests
>>108459915>Need dental work because some faggot on a scooter ran me down and just kept on driving>You either pay for it yourself despite already getting bled dry by the state or extract the tooth or get a dogshit cement filling which will break in 2 months and eventually lead to extraction anywayThe system in Europe is just as broken if not more than the US system, because in the US I could at least in theory earn enough to pay for it, not so in Europe where you are a slave to the state and the migrants you feed with half your paycheck. Also before anyone is talking about private insurance, if I need private insurance then we might as well switch to the US system and importantly almost all dental private insurance in Europe only covers „medically necessary“ treatment.
>>108459988Yes I know how it works. I only meant that in the vast majority of countries there is zero avenue for getting compensation through medical malpractice. The odds are certainly stacked against you in US, but at least there is something there. I have no other condolences to offer and I'm sorry all that happened.
>>108459091If AI is actually good at this, you might be able to see doctors taking advantage of this in less developed countries, and winning by free market forces. One doctor sets up a LLM-based clinic with massively lower wait times and higher throughput. You go to his clinic for an LLM diagnosis, and he simply verifies and signs off on it, boosting his productivity and salary 10x. The vastly increased profit should in theory push more doctors to do this, and doctors that don't get pushed to the margins.

If you wanted to pay out of pocket for an extraction you're looking at several hundred to a thousand dollars.>if I need private insurance then we might as well switch to the US system and importantly almost all dental private insurance in Europe only covers „medically necessary“ treatment.Huge difference in most of Europe. You can actually afford private care. Almost everyone in the US cannot afford Europe level private healthcare. I've experienced several systems, US is the worst. I really hate saying this to yuropoors because it breaks their little hearts but if you're poor here in Europe you're probably going to go the US and be poor as well. The people that "make it" are extreme exceptions. I could understand if you came from a mud hut or favela or something, sure anything would be better. But the people that think they go to US and work hard and do all the right things and have all their financial needs solved are delusional. If you don't believe me then go. I don't advise it
>>108460052I actually did that a while back, before we even had agents. Turns out I have a histamine intollerance, knowing this did improve my life somewhat.

Like everyone else and like LLMs, doctors optimize for saying the right things to maximize income. If writing down some scribbles on a prescription gets them more income then that's what they do. They aren't interested in solving problems; you have money and they want it.The whole modern world is fake and gay.

The prerequisite is to also not to be retarded though, which is is not always fully related to intelligence.

>>108458652Most doctors are masquerading with fake degrees. Australia found that as many as 10% of licensed doctors are coasting on fake degrees to get residency and then fake it until they make it. But that's also okay, because every professional field is like this right now. Especially IT and Technology, where everyone just decided all at once that fraud is normal and everyone honest needs to be laid off if they didn't claim to be fluent in Python (they use ChatGPT) and invented Haskell. we live in interesting times.
>>108461934>I think they're right desu. Even if every single doctor was a genius (there's good and bad ones), they get a few minutes to diagnose you and send you on your way.I've noticed that with my doctors: Their #1 goal is to get me out of their office, they don't give a shit about any problems. If I stop and start trying to discuss symptoms they try to change the topic or have me sent for tests (Most of them aren't related to any problems, they get kickbacks from testing companies). Apparently places like Japan where medicine is socialized is even worse. They just load patients down with medications and then pretend they're doing something right. The modern era is going to be looked at as more barbaric than bloodletting.
>>108459144Doctors are genuinely fucking stupid, most resident doctors are just senior boomers who quit being 'with it' decades ago but are allowed to continue practicing because of seniority. He and my aunt had to go to multiple doctors in his town AND 2 other cities to finally figure out what was going on. Given I did hear this story through my mom who heard it from my other aunt so maybe it's a little embellished, but it sounds about right. >>108467343whoever tells you it's a first world nation is a fucking delusional lier.
>>108458652The problem of healthcare is that it's a putrid discipline where an artificial market of prestige is sustained. There's no real reason to dunk 8 years on basic training and compete in a contest of skill were ranking comes from knowing trivia just to access underpaid labor in the name of "getting experience" in a niche field. You could start offering niche training to people in their 20s after a basic physiology course and focus in a better referral system. Once some insurance grifter realizes this and starts to push for AI-assisted diagnosis using underprepared personel, the whole house of cards is coming down. All it needs is for someone to want to dip their hands in a cheaper strategy instead of piling up stakes on the rotten shit we have now.And that only means bad news for whoever trained in medicine already, so they will make their share of opposition.
>>108467395The system doesn't reward solving people's problems, it rewards sending them off quickly and having them come back. People themselves are expendable. The service of public health is antithetical to neoliberal economics.
>>108466175If there's a demand in the market for the product then the product will be made. It is basic economics. Demand drives supply. Your Communist rhetoric is based on lies and a supreme lack of understanding of how the world works.
>>108466843Yes, I am successful now, after I lost the second job. I didn't learn the first time, didn't think lightning could strike twice. Did you miss the part where I said I now have measures against it happening again? That I make double what I did before? Success also in that in spite of my flaws and failures my wife and children loved me all the more, and I became stronger.>>108466860Why would I willingly do that? You people like strawman arguments and refuse to believe a word I say.Real details:>yes, I had my car repo'd during my second unemployment>they did tell me to go F myself even though I'm white cause I had unemployment too recently>yes, I did take jobs I felt were beneath me to make ends meetI wasn't alone, I had my wife and children, if I hadn't had them I don't know what I would have done, but I fought for their sake. Didn't have much family otherwise, my family was always small, I literally have never had a cousin of any sort on my side of the family. My mother is the oldest living person on my side of the family, everyone else is dead. On my wife's side, like I said, there was a schism, they blamed my FIL for things he didn't do and ostracized him. Some people on his side even went against him including his own son.God will still help you if you ask. Does suffering exist? Yes, of course, did I ever deny that? In fact I have told you of my struggles, struggles I have gone through for literal years. The premature death of a parent that looks so unfair is impactful and it happened to both me and my wife. The unemployment cost me everything, I didn't automatically recover from it the day I got a job either, in fact I merely slowed down some problems. But I learned. Faith helped me more than anything. I was depressed and destitute and angry. It only made things worse. Trusting in God made things better. You can fantasize about bad circumstances, it's another thing to live them. Not everyone comes through.

>>108458843>You should only trust a trained professional.hahaha and I bet you work for free right? oh wait no only profit.last time I had a medical thing, the nurse did all the work and the doctor repeated everything she said... you people are running a massive scam of an industry and are a blight to society if healthcare was about helping and healing people, there would be more work being done as a whole, blood tests would be standard for all checkups, and the multi-teir crony system would not exist

>>108466021>the level of delusion is insane. honestly rethink your life, and look at things more objectively.this is just euroseeth because the US literally leads the world in healthcare, theres a reason why neuralink is an american inventionultimately everything in the US does wind up better because of the freer grounds and more competition, kinda like why switzerland thrives so well with the med industry and are close 2nd

>>108467610>If there's a demand in the market for the product then the product will be madeUnfortunately you are delusional. Say you manufacture two medications that act as a band aid solution for someones ailment. Only you can produce that medication and you have a vice grip on the market.Your researchers find a promising alternative medication that is going to replace both your current medications for this ailment. Other companies cant release that medication, as it is your intellectual property. So you shelve it until your other medications become available for generic manufacturers to produce. Releasing it would eat into your bottom line. Other companies either do not know of it or cannot use it.That is inherently how it works. >Your Communist rhetoric is based on lies and a supreme lack of understanding of how the world worksCope all you want, I know how the pharmaceutical industry works. >>108467708>Some bs article on a news site is not a fact.Rope
>>108468316To put it another way, drug companies have an exclusive right to the medication they make for two decades more or less. They care more about quantity than they do about actual effectiveness of their medication. They would rather have you on three medications that barely solve your ailments that only they can produce than have you on one that only they can produce. More band aid solutions = more moneyOnce they lose the exclusive right to make the band-aid medication they will then graciously sell the better ones they keep shelvedAll while countless people have suffered at the expense of this profit first approach.

>>108459144Getting through med school is basically just memorization and being able to connect A to B in a couple legic steps. It's like getting through a history or law degree. And once you become a doctor, it gets even easier. It is just surgeons and a couple harder specializations that require effort and carry some risk on the daily. The rest are cushy af easy work that is paid top money because of how retarded our healthcare system is. 90% of doctors are litterally just IT support but for humans. The proffession is mystified just because it is highly paid, and becoming a doctor is hard just because a lot of people want to go to med school and the residency program is fucking retarded on purpose to keep doctor supplies low.
>>108472090the anon you replied to specified medicine, any idea if thats where the best minds are? for sure it isn't memorization since you literally gotta come up with new groundbreaking cures.
>>108472209Extremely few doctors work on developing novel cures. Most new cures are new medications made by biotech companies and biochemistry labs. The doctors just approve, administer and monitor the treatment. For surgeons it is more common to work on novel approaches but, still, most surgeries are by the book routine stuff. There's great minds that pursue medicine drawn in by the money and social prestige, but most doctor work is so low stakes (as in, it is rare for people to actually sue unless the fuckup is catastrophic) and has such lack of rigor (really, a doctor can give you medication with potentially life altering effects based on a 10 minutes long conversation. There's pretty much not a single proffession as impactful to people's lives that can make decisions as carelessly as doctors) that most just relax and collect the paycheck since there's litterally no reason to put in any extra effort at that point unless they truly, genuinely care for the patients, which a lot of doctors don't really do.
>>108459223I'd rather die than look like a fucking cancer patient, thanks.
>>108459186>worked with doctors for 10 yearsbro was a nurse and is bitter about it
>>108458843Your kind is no less retarded than the rest of the humankid. Your job is ordering the same exams 80% of the times and pattern recognition 20% of the time. I have literally zero doubt that AI is a thousand time better at making diagnosis then doctors.Image recognition was already better than doctors 10 years ago. AI should have been used yesterday in medicine. This is the best purpose this shit could ever have.
