One easy way to tell if one wasn't fit for it is if they struggled with the exams.

I've only asked it one thing. Why do I get consistent nagging burning pain near the mid exterior of my right knee after prolonged periods of sitting and driving in the car, or at my desk? I figured my knee must be partially torn or cooked in some way and that surgery was on the near horizon. It said it was bursitis and all I needed to do was make sure to avoid sitting with the knees at 90 degrees for too long, stretch it more throughout the day, did so and it's gone away. Doctor would have tried to sell me a $10k surgery.

I remember my little sister got double "acl tear" replacement surgery when she was 13 despite being able to walk fine and not showing any real signs of serious injury, I wonder if they scammed her.

Very possible, keep in mind that diagnosis is merely a question of knowledge + variables A(symptoms) + variables B (circumstances such as age, environment, diet, traumas etc) + statistics and then going from most probable to least probable, generally doctors are really bad at math so statistics go out of the window, then their knowledge is usually limited sometimes more sometimes less and at the end, they get instructed by protocols, so if they see X issue they order Y analysis into Z treatment instead of looking into the least invasive and cheapest treatment of the root cause.
If someone worked into making a serious medical AI non-surgeons would be out of the job in less than 10 years, I'm 100% serious, but that would require highly skilled medical professionals to work with the LLMs to make sure their training yields the correct results and I don't think that even the greediest of them is willing to kill his entire profession for some money, not to mention how arrogant they are about the years they spent studying just to be outskilled by a computer within a few years.

Yeah, outside of the ones that have an actual skill, like surgery, this could be like a doomsday level event for them. Think about what a doctor is in 2026. Usually someone that just absorbed a shit ton of knowledge and studied their ass off for years, and tons of debt. A walking encyclopedia. But that's worthless now. They do have other components of their job that make them somewhat necessary. AI is actually quite useful for medical diagnosis because AI is effectively a context engine. If you feed it shitloads of context on what your issues and symptoms are, it can spit out a string of words that correlates to that.
I think what others are saying about doctors is also true, with many being disinterested or prone to thinking they know more about the patient's own body than the patient who actually feels the symptoms and deals with them regularly. It's mostly a liability issue. We already have issues with positions like nurse practitioner giving people bad diagnoses and it causing big legal issues despite that person essentially being qualified and doctors likely getting it wrong in similar ways much of the time.

A week after the ultrasound my insurance comes back and says it wasn't "medically necessary", turns out ultrasounds on the head cost more, turns out ultrasounds on kids cost more. Hospital wanted $2,500 for it. Appealed to insurance, they said to go pound sand. Said the same thing for the surgery to remove it.

I told the hospital to go pound sand for what literally was about a one minute process. Paid for surgery out of my own pocket. Never got insurance again.

Hospital killed my dad too. They "forgot" to tell anyone that when he was discharged he had pneumonia after his lung surgery. lol oops

He went back but his body was already weak. They kept chasing it. His doctor seemed inept and uncaring. He got basic details wrong. My father died a month later.

Yup, tried in both cases, with my dad it took too much of a toll on my mother and sister to want to continue, they wanted to quit, I couldn't go on because of them, for what, money? Lawyer was pretty negative about it, said the state limits how much you could sue for, at least in regard to the subjective, e.g. "mental anguish", you can get recouped for all medical costs though.

With my MIL it ended up being the same way. Different lawyer said the same shit. We went on for two years. The amount of shit you have to put up with from the other side is insane. They genuinely do it to wear you down. They say and accuse you of the worst things. It's like they hired shitposters from the worst parts of 4Chan as paralegals. Eventually they offered a settlement at a fraction of the state limit. My FIL took it, he clearly couldn't keep going.

At the end of the day it's only money you get, too. Getting the doctors to be shown as being negligent, putting through a malpractice suit is nigh impossible. I've noticed that with my doctors: Their #1 goal is to get me out of their office, they don't give a shit about any problems. Conversing with LLMs helped me enormously with what turned out to be post-viral fatigue.
I had noticed a few things, some exercise I could do, some things that would put me on my ass for a week. Some symptoms. Plugged it all into a conversation with Grok and it gives me a few things to try. Antihistamines daily, huge improvement. Creatine daily. Night and day difference to my fatigue. It even explained why some exercises were fine (reclined position) verses not (upright position) and it being due to post-viral autonomic dysregulation.
Genuinely improved my quality of living and I had been dealing with that shit for several years.

Now? I figured out how to make the most of everything and provide the best life possible. I even figured out how to navigate this system you seem to think you're at the mercy of, I learned how to exploit it even to my benefit. I made plans to ensure if we ever went through this again we'd be fine and to make sure it doesn't happen and position myself well.

At the moment we're thriving. I'm making double what I was making two years ago when I compromised and took a huge paycut. Even my wife found out what she was capable of and we're better off than ever because of the struggle.

Extremely few doctors work on developing novel cures. Most new cures are new medications made by biotech companies and biochemistry labs. The doctors just approve, administer and monitor the treatment.
For surgeons it is more common to work on novel approaches but, still, most surgeries are by the book routine stuff.
There's great minds that pursue medicine drawn in by the money and social prestige, but most doctor work is so low stakes (as in, it is rare for people to actually sue unless the fuckup is catastrophic) and has such lack of rigor (really, a doctor can give you medication with potentially life altering effects based on a 10 minutes long conversation.
