Anons, I understand it now. I understand why the anons on this board want absolute control over their computers. I used to think, “Haha, lol, imagine spending 100 hours just to get a working system,” but I have been using Linux Mint for a long time, and I'm just getting so damn tired. Age verification is rolling in; my PC is a ThinkPad, and it is not built different, so I can't even use Gentoo, and I might use BSD, but I'm not sure since I rely on Wi-Fi. Linux is becoming a botnet and is going to become the next Windows in the foreseeable future. Hell, if everything wasn't online, I would just put TempleOS on the PC and do my actual work in real life like a normal human being. I would go the full DIY route, but I am hesitant. My hardware isn't meant for heavy compiling, so Gentoo is out. Arch might be an option, but I worry it will eventually bow down to age verification and tracking. Does anybody actually even use LFS? Is it over? Will we all switch to BSD? What after BSD? I just want to use my system and not worry about glowies putting shit in it every second. My plan right now is to probably drag my PC across the room, plug into Ethernet, and try installing OpenBSD. If that doesn't work, I might just cry myself to sleep. Can you anons help me out? I genuinely just want to get away from all of this.
Burnt out on tech to be honest with you. What a scam it all is.
>>108461431If you just want a binary distro without systemd look at artix (arch with choice of non-systemd inits) or alpine (lightweight distro with openrc suitable for ancient stinkpads). It is just an optional text field though, lots of people sperging out over nothing.
>>108461431>My hardware isn't meant for heavy compiling, so Gentoo is out.Not Gentoo's fault. It's the C++ and Rust retards with their miserable compile times. C code (non-tranny kernel parts and other software) compiles reasonably fast.
>>108461431Gentoo offers binaries and has for years at this point.
>>108461431>my PC is a ThinkPad, and it is not built different, so I can't even use GentooOf course you can, you just need to put your hand near the cpu to share heat so the cpu doesn't get toastedAlso setting wifi on freeBSD is easy af, i don't know about the other berkeleys
>>108461453>alpineI used alpine once, on a virtual machine and on bare metal, it worked good but I always thought of it as a server thing, it is actually suitable for daily use?
>>108461502If you run into some software you cant get from the repos you can always use distrobox or podman to run it so it isn't really a big deal, you can run DEs out of containers if you really wanted even.
>>108461462I always thought the whole point of Gentoo was compiling everything. Tomorrow is friday so I guess I will spend that whole day trying to get a working Gentoo system, I might learn something in the process and also escape from all this glowy shit.
>>108461431isn't arch just precompiled gentoo?
>>108461431
>>108461700Compiling everything was the traditional way, yes, but no longer a prerequisite. Enjoy the best distro out there, anon.
i might install this one in an old laptop i have lying around, this one will probably stay with windows or move to either fedora or cachyos because i like the processor
>>108461438This. I've spent my entire life with computers and technology. I did not get close what was put into it. Was all to harvest humanity anyway.
>>108464849
Artix is transphobic, systemd-free, and will not add age verificationIf I couldn't use gentoo it's what I'd use
>>108461431I think someone actually managed to post here with TempleOS but that was a long while ago.
>>108465159This. I'm too Gud to use Artix, but if my IQ was 40 points less, maybe 160 I could use Artix.
>>108465159I wasted my 20s and ignored a good girl to code some worthless shit. I fucking hate myself. She couldnt see my tinkering was useless. She's gone. I'm experiencing psychotic episodes starting last night. Fuck this
>>108461431thats all well and good OP but thats nothing... can you run pokemon red on God's Holy OS? >>84228273
>>108465392Bro wtf. 2sad4me
>>108465394impressive. very nice
>>108461431>What after BSD?Plan 9
>>108465392>he talked to girls in his 20sngmi
>>108461502I use Alpine. I don't understand the meme that it's just for servers. It doesn't seem any different from any other Linux distro I've ever tried.
>>108467757lacking glibc breaks a lot of normie things
>>108461431just use bootstrappable, BSD-like linux without systemd: void, chimera, crux, sabotage, and/or alpine
