I believe it just center's around the idea that most people think an initial system should just, well, start the OS up and doesn't need to also control the networking in said OS, or handle NTP in the OS, or really do anything after the OS has started. Like systemd-boot is as far as systemd shoulda gone type of thing

Like I still remember when people were saying GRUB was bloated but at least it stops existing when the kernel is started

Just my 2 cents I guess

You're being obtuse but ok
>trivial philosophical thing
you seem like you need a windows analogy more: imagine if the file explorer also had access to services, and if your file explorer crashes, you couldn't launch system services anymore. Does that sound a little dumb? if so then you get why the philosophy exists and why people hate Sysd so much for being a swiss army knife.
>>

>>108465351
>you seem like you need a windows analogy
I don't use windows. But if I'm following your analogy it would mean Dolphin crashing would affect system services (what's that?). But systemd doesn't affect Dolphin (does it?). Can you use a real example?

>>108464622
People don't like working software that challenges their UNIX weenie baby duck. That's it. systemd and its ecosystem literally heem Windows and macOS in their respective fields. People who don't know, don't know.
>>
>>108464622
Basically what >>108464878
said. The unix philosphy is to do one thing and to do it well.
Systemd is a gross violation of that by being way too over engineered. Comically also made by a German who are notorious for over engineering what should be simple.

>Systemd is a gross violation of that by being way too over engineered.
So it's a philosophical problem not a real technical one?
>>
>>108462186
It is just something that highlighted the state of systemd and problems that accumulated through the decades. Treat it as a reminder of unhealthy overreliance, which is especially bad if you consider how broken it is on all levels.

Which systemd ironically follows, systemd is a collection of programs that do one thing and do it well :^)

So you don't actually care about what's going on under the hood in the first place.

for now
the reason people are so up in arms about this is because it's laying the groundwork for tying every computing device to your real life identity (gov't ID and SSN or non-U.S. equivalent), which is the ultimate goal
>>108464115
>How soon until there's a solid, up to date systemd alternative that gets widely adopted?
minus 43 years
SysV UNIX came out in 1983, and sysvinit is still maintained and developed

Gentoo defaulted to systemd around ~2014. I think you can still drive it with openrc but gentoo was never anti-systemd.

photo ID upload as proof of age
they're manufacturing a crisis; first they mandate age attestation by saying won't someone think of the children, then in a couple years, they'll bemoan the failure of age attestation because kids can just lie and start pushing for age verification, because once again, won't someone think of the children

I've just made the switch recently, and it's alright. Only "issue" I've seen so far is power management, but thY could be resolved with other tools. Speaking of-
>>108465104
Do you know what devuon uses for power management related tasks? Like handling the power button, suspend, hibanate, lid switch, and so forth? I looked at acpid, but it seems it needs some manual configuring. Which I don't mind, just thought maybe something else was out there already.

Sooner or later, you'll end up having to install some government app. Without it, you won't be able to run anything, and the internet won't work either. The EU, US, and the rest of the world already have plans for this.
>>
>>108469098
That's not even how the internet works. You'd just be walling those countries off from everyone else north korea style, nothing else would happen.
