I've used linux for over 20 years on and off, I still wouldn't use it as my main OS because I have OCPD and it would destroy all of my free time.

It just doesn't support jap crap right out of the box. If someone made a distro with all the fonts, IME and everything pre-nstalled as the default more people might use it. The biggest problem is since their community is so small the Japanese-language resources to fix their shit when Linux things happen to them are going to be limited although I guess nowadays they could get by with translations
