>16% of them use Linux
Does that mean nearly half of all Linux users are Indian?
>>
>Scatcounter data
Off yourself and find find an actual source
This is as untrustworthy as it gets
>>
>>108464295
Linux has terrible localization support, especially for the Asian moon runes. You're practically only ever going to use it in English.
>>
>>108464333
Windows. But HarmonyOS is gaining ground fast. It was released 5 years ago and it's apparently already at 5% market share in China. Which just shows that the most important thing is advertising and pre-loading an OS as well as having money to actually pay developers.
>>
>>108464333
Government and state enterprises use Kylin which is Linux based, but the general public mostly use Windows.

Linux is terrible in a lot of ways, but at least it's not malicious and anti-consumer.
>>
>>108464295
linux historically has had very poor cjk/unicode support, being very heavily biased towards ANSI/Latin1 and this only began to change when utf-8 became the standard in most distros, so the japs went for what worked best for them instead (dos/v, windows, macos).
it's that simple.
i was trying to use fcxit5+mozc the other day on arch and it was very janky.
>>
>>108465084
Not having localization and forcing people into using an OS in English is very anti-consumer.
>>
>>108465105
It's not done with malicious intent, just lack of resources.
I'm sure the French, Spanish, German etc. translations are good because a lot of people contribute.
When it comes to translating Mint to my obscure language, it's literally just me and another guy that contribute regularly.
>>
>>108465105
Not so much "anti-consumer" as just not proactively inclusive (by the real meaning of the term not the marxist one). And certainly not malicious.

Not that guy and not saying nips should care but we should accept that what we're talking about is mostly historical. Pre UTF-8 linux and before windows became literal malware is when the preference was established.

Because computers, somehow, are alien technology to japs. Try playing one of their fighting games and see how you'll struggle with the most illogical maze-like menu just so you can unbind Page Down as the back button and assign it to something that isn't unbelievably retarded.
>>
>>108468098
>has OCPD
>can't install an immutable distro and just use it normally
>somehow doesn't tinker with Windows or Mac
yeah I don't believe it. I also don't believe this OCPD is a real thing, you don't HAVE to wash your hands exactly 14 times. Just wash your hands once lol
>>
>>108464295
After zion don started going after H1B, Indian Linux market share has been declined by a lot.

>>108468234
how about it not being able to resolve most of the fucking data?
or the insane fluctuation linux had, going from 5 to 15 to 5 again within just a few years?
or how about the fact that its trackers are banned off mainstream websites so its collecting literal garbage data?
>>
>>108464295
HighIQ, conservative people who value stability. Distro hopping is inefficient and wasteful.
>>
>>108468489
OCPD is not like OCD where you wash your hands a set amount of times or some shit, It's basically perfectionism with intrusive ruminating thought patterns. Meaning if its within my control I will pour tons of time into making it optimized til I'm content with it and then move on repeating that cycle with something else. In my case with programming, I spend more time optimizing my code than I do writing the base functions. With Windows and OSX you don't have that option and you just have to accept it being shit. This past year I started on some SSRIs(Luvox) that have helped me a lot to be more discerning so I can reduce the wasted time spent.

I didn't even know I had it until about a year ago when I was talking to a therapist to see if I can further improve myself and once they read the symptoms of it I was surprised that I had basically every one of them.
>>
>>108464501
It really does, and that's why I'm so proud of Debian for embracing the Indian future and nominating an Indian woman to be the Project lead.

The future belongs to India
Linux is the future of computing
India has made great friendship with Linux.
>>
>>108464295
They need social permission to do anything, and Linux doesn't do advertising, which is how social permission is generated in consumer society.
>>
>>108468489
>>108468674
oh and just to further this, I didn't say I don't thinker with Windows. I tinker as much as I can within the scope of my control and also keep a log of every change I make in case I fuck something up, I also have daily incremental partition backups running and retain 120 days of said backups and mirror them to 3 different drives so I can never lose anything. You really don't want me going into further details of the things I do to this fucking OS to satiate the ruminating thoughts.
>>
>>108468716
For power users, Windows can satiate autism quite well.
https://www.microsoftpressstore.com/store/windows-internals-part-1-system-architecture-processes-9780735684188

If anything, I think Windows is the better platform for socially sharing software with one another. A common base makes it easy to distribute your program to the world, without having to worry about compatibility issues.
>>
>>108468716
another example of OCPD would be my thought to delete this comment to fix the typo in it, that's how OCPD is.
>>
>>108464361
It's kinda hit and miss, most of the older ones run better than on Windows these days, but quite a few used a particularly janky video player that is still broken on linux I believe.

LINUX is too different

You are dealing with a country that learns how to do things once and then never ever ever changes it

on the plus side they can find 1000+ different ways to use that one thing just look at their porn they are extremely creative.

So basically Incompetence :I Incompetence Japan :O

this
let's be honest: appimages and flatpaks are weird and fairly douchy
>>
>>108468405
This post doesn't even really scratch the real issue, which is that 90+% of Indian traffic is Android or other mobile operating systems (probably also custom Android spins) and the "16%" Linux figure is achieved by cutting out all phone operating systems.
Since custom phone browsers and operating systems are often blacklisted or not on whitelists, they have to spoof their user agents, spoofed or unknown phone browsers make up at least 60% of the data if you restrict yourself to just desktop operating systems, since statcounter can't accurately categorize those.
What's left is a tiny, contaminated pool of data that fluctuates heavily, since it's based on the traffic of a handful of users.
>>
>>108464326
Someone from /ck/ posted the not my problem oil meme on 2ch cooking board and the Japanese were very confused asking why would you do that to your own plumbing
>>
>>108470465
India doesn't. That's just useless data. As a java developer in India the amount of Linux PCs I encounter with my peers is exactly 3. And 1 of them uses a VM to test the software in Windows.

Very few people actually use Linux in India and with good reason. There isn't an actual reason to use it.

Linux doesn't work on Japanese laptops.
Things like dbus, fcitx, and mozc are unstable, or it’s just because the manufacturers are trash. But ultimately, it’s because business people use Windows, while engineers and students just buy MacBooks.

I guess some nipponese mutations of Symbian can be still used on their feature phones + whatever the fuck specialized OSes are used in work and school environments because that's where most adults will be mostly interacting with computers.
There's probably also some scene of homebrew OSes there? Sadly the only one that got popular outside of Japan was ToaruOS/PonyOS and that's not maintained for quite a few years now.

VERY likely runs on wine nowadays. just keep in mind wine requires configuration so it might only work after doing that.
>>
>>108471236
I did this for more than a decade and nothing happened.
>>
It just doesn't support jap crap right out of the box.
If someone made a distro with all the fonts, IME and everything pre-nstalled as the default more people might use it. The biggest problem is since their community is so small the Japanese-language resources to fix their shit when Linux things happen to them are going to be limited although I guess nowadays they could get by with translations
>>
I'm jap and I use Arch btw

There's zero way this is accurate btw. There's no way of knowing what people have on their computers.

Good picrel, I don't mind Flatpaks, but I feel like the argument isn't that good, because Ubuntu is really popular in india (even on a gov level) and ubuntu comes with Snaps instead of Flatpaks by default. By the way... how do you create clean, scrollable images?

>>
why the /g/ don't english know?
>>
>>108478287
Installing isn't the biggest issue with it, that can be done quite easily with Lutris and Wine. The main issue is the whole VPN DRM stuff you have to get in a script most likely so when you launch the DMM launcher, it doesn't block you for being a filthy gaijin.
>>
