How did you configure KDE Plasma to get a tiling window manager workflow such as with Hyprland and DWM? Perhaps even better?

I didn't hope that helps OP

who gives a fuck about tiling window managers, stop being a weird cunt and just use the computer normally
>>

>who gives a fuck about tiling window managers
But you need to be as efficient and productive as possible!
>>

fpbp here I use a twm I just don't use kde so i didn't transform kde into a tiling paradigm hope that helps
twm are superior and the only people who don't think so are the mentally impaired who struggle to remember basic information

>>

i didnt you cant
plasma isnt built for it just install a tiling manager if you want a tiling manager. on my laptop i have both plasma and niri
>>
>>108466008
>Perhaps even better
it's not, it feels like a jank extension slapped on top of a DE
if you want a tiling window manager, use a tiling window manager
>>
>>108466008
unironically you can create a tiling window manager for windows and macos but not on wayland lmao the absolute state
>>
>>108468044
there are Wayland TWMs
>>
>>108468067
Pretty sure he means using some external software cause wayland don't ley you set windows positions, nor know where other windows are placed.

iirc you can't even know where your own application window is placed... but hey, it's the future.
>>
>>108468067
yes but you canot combine them thing that Xorg had no problem with
>>
>>108466008
Back when I used KDE, there was a plugin for Kwin or something for dynamic tiling (I don't remember what it's called)/ SUper easy t oset up, and windows auto tillet when rised to grid you set. It was absolute blast experience.

I like the sandboxing model, but the protocol won't get any actually useful features so it'll remain garbage

I would love to have a way to "ask" for permissions to do stuff instead of being told that you can't do anything anymore, that you should embrace it and that there'll be no alternative soon, cause they're gonna remove x11 soon.

I just wanted to port this to wayland, what's so risky about letting a window set and get its own positon?

Not other applications windows, its own window!
>>
>>108468249
Exactly my thoughts. A permission model that is "secure" by default but still allows you to let specific programs do more would make it almost perfect

Xlibre

This is achievable on any wm with a basic script. You're going to sit there for the rest of your life being retarded because you can't put in a few days to learn shell script and how to use a twm.

Kwin has some tilling features, but if you used it for a while you might have realised that its not built with tilling in mind. Ctrl+T is a handy shortcut though.
I remember there was some extensions that prettu much turned kwin to a tilling WM but one that I tried sucked balls
>>
>>108468229
I've been using this for a while and it's pretty good after disabling animations and a total rework of keybinds, but I suspect itll always be a bit janky.

>you can't put in a few days to learn shell script and how to use a twm

But I don't want to use a TWM.

>Can I add this functionality to an image viewer and make it work ootb?
Only on x11

>Can I make it work on wayland using a Kwin script
Yes, it will be harder/messier than on x11 cause I'll need to add dbus commands, as a way to tell the application when the window has reached its maximun size and it's now the imageviewer time to zoom instead of letting the image take the window size, and also the other way around too...

So yeah I can release an image viewer with this functionality, that will only work on certain wms and the user will need to set up an extra script and configure the shortcuts on their wm and not in the imageviewer itself.

Best ux ever, thanks wayland.

I just want a fucking window that says:
>APPLICATION X WANTS TO ADJUST THE POSITION AND SIZE OF ITS OWN WINDOWS.
>ALLOW / DENY

If they do it as planed the one person that whines the most on phoronix about it will not be able to use it, cause it's using an uhd 620 or 630 that lacks the needed features.

yet not using the new features will not improve the situation significantly, if at all.

It's a fucking desktop after all, opengl has everything that's needed for it, any advantage will be mostly cause they can write it from scratch and drop support for older cards.
>>
>>108471550
use case for wanting to adjust the position and size of its own applications?
>>
>>108466008
>5.24.1
my god, even debian OLD STABLE has newer plasma
>>
>>108471652
Make an image viewer that take only as much space as the image needs.
