For anyone thinking about buying mac studio/ mac mini.Don't buy yet, the m4 version has 2 max versions 14c/16c and two pro version 12/14c.M5 pro/max share the cpu So potentially m5 pro will be real good buck for money consider you have same CPU as m5 max ( just less gpu cores 20 compare to 32/40 in max)

Their M series laptops have excellent battery life, keyboards, track pads, speakers, cameras, and overall build quality. Some things about the OS are good. It has excellent security presets, and the in built software suite gives you a lot of functionality right out of the box. But it's lack of customization (or paywalled customization) makes it frustrating to use. A lot of basic quality of life features are absent. MacOS also spies on you for Apple, it often updates in ways that make the OS worse, and Apple doesn't support older versions of MacOS, which means older versions also lose app support over time.

I get all the customization I want to build a workflow that works for me. I get to keep Apple from spying on me or purposefully degrading my experience with updates to try and get me to buy a new laptop. I am planning to donate to the Asahi project this year (I donate each year to the projects that help me the most) because I will probably move all my Macs over to a project like this as the MacOS experience gets worse and worse.
