i need less. still plays minecraft 1.7.10 at 75FPS with angelica. i wish i had an 8250U though

I need less
By which I mean I need a CPU of equal capability, but with the Israeli backdoor features removed.
>>
Let me guess. This is exactly the processor you have now, and therefore this is the baseline for doing productive work.
>>
>>108470281
That's what I thought until I bought a shitty laptop with an 8th gen i5 an learned that there is no hardware decoding support for av1.
I would say tiger lake 11th gen is the better choice but all the ram is soldered in the laptops with it.

explain your REAL LIFE usecase for a a processor more powerful than an 8th grn 15. you cant.

I remember most of these are faster than their 10th gen ice lake equivalent, for example 8250u vs 1035g1
The turbo speeds are clocked a full 1 ghz higher, Intel got really conservative with their 10 nm parts at the start
>>
>>108470281
For Ai, you do, but for everything else 8th gen is more than enough.
>>
>>108470281
I peronally found for all general uses other than offline local AI 4th gen i7s are fine as long as they are 16/32gb and have some sort of GPU

Even for AI a downvolted intel 14th gen i7 or i9 is more than you need.
>>
>>108472440
they are barely faster than an i7-4790 ~(I'm deliberately picking a low/average 4th gen i7) and do less threads 6 vs 8. Never buy i5s or i3s of any generation is my advise.

These are viable.

This is e-waste.

>>108470281
my n97 has the same perf as my 8th gen i3/i5, but at 2-15W power consumption.
>>
>>108475487
At least use Ivy Bridge for PCIe 3 anon
>>
>>108470281

6 cores is more or less the minimum.
8th and 9th gen intel cpus are dogshit anyway.
I also did not know that 9th 'gen' Intel cpu is identical with 8th gen. Talk about scamming your customers.

>>108470281
It's ok to upgrade once every decade, anon

There is no such thing as "work" on a computer
>>
>>108470697
Yeah, without hardware av1 decode your laptop will heat up playing youtube videos.
>>
>>108478476
at least mine does
>>
Run rpcs3.Can't even get stable 20 fps on a tetris game. I would say I need a lot more.

My gaming laptop scores 1290 multi core and 578 in single core in passmark performancetest (cpubenchmark.net)

I have an 8250u laptop but it's showing it's age from being part of the 14nm++++ era.

I use one of those in my storage server...

i feel like normies do not understand the importance of cache. i7 has more cache.
>>
>>108470281
yes, in fact I do.
I was on a 8th gen xeon at work, switch to a 14th xeon, build times went from over 8 hours to a bit over 20 minutes for all my yocto images.
some people have a real job, if all you do is writing mail then a c64 performance-wise is all you need indeed.
>>
>>108470281
You're right. i386 for me.
>>
I still use a i5 750
>>
>>108470281
My homelab consists of 2 mini pcs with i5 6500 and 8500 and they serve me many services just fine.

If you want to troll techlets, go to Reddit or Facebook, you silly little peanut.

Isn't that what AI does though? Just literally do not need more? Isn't that what you're doing right now? Isn't it the same thing?

You can actually tell the browser to select for HEVC, but that's not a sustainable solution.
Everyone is moving to Av1, so your hardware needs to move up too if you don't want a shit experience.
This is why I >>108470697 also don't recommend silicon M1 or M2. M3 is the minimum.

I kind of feel this, i upgraded my old acer i7 8th gen to a thinkpad 11th i7 and it sucks ass. it gets hot regularly and the battery lasts like 3 hours on a good day with heavy control on the turbo boost on either windows or linux while the acer got like 6 doing anything.
>>
You did need more since that CPU is on the Windows 11 supported list, if you truly didn't need more you would post a pic of a cpu that is on Windows 11's shitlist instead.
>>
>>108483533
Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. Disabled av1 in about:config and youtube videos look like they consume 50% less CPU and GPU from eyeballing system monitor. Stats for nerds on youtube confirms that it's streaming vp9 now.
