Driver is failing.

drives need to be 'aligned' to the correct partition in order to write or read. AKA a driver isn't doing what it should and it's neither reading nor writing on sdc, whichever device that is.
The driver is stepping through segments, it can see the segments, it sees the drivers are correct, but when it goes to write or read, it realizes that it's not aligned and it errors out instead of risking writing bad data to a drive that may not be operating correctly.
Try a smart test using smartmontools, make sure the drive is healthy.

I think this can be caused by a failing drive firmware/controller. Drive media is fine.
>>

It's probably fucked, it's a 2.5" 2TB drive with 4 years of power on time.
Only use it for temporary downloads, till now it still reads fine, downloaded huge archives that extract fine.

I hope you have backups, because that thing is going to die soon.

SMR drive? Also bad cables can cause this like the other anon said
>>
>>108470794
I want to understand this better. Is this alignment thing related to the 512-byte sectors of hdds or something else? How does it know when it is not aligned?
>>
>>108470754
Happened to me before, check the cable, hopefully it's a bad connection/bad cable and your drive isn't dying
>>
>>108470754
The drive is most likely kill.
Check the SMART stats.

>>108470954
This is actually possible too, I once had a drive with a poorly connected cable misbehaving and thought it was dying but it was the cable. It showed up as UDMA CRC errors in SMART.

Some drives also misleadingly increase 183 Runtime_Bad_Block count with cable related failures with no real bad blocks on the drive.
