So, what's the advantage of BSD operating systems? What's the use case?
people that just want a PC for web browsing and office stuff
>>108473589doesn't have all the churn of linuxmore or less works just the same way it did 20 years ago when i installed it the first time
It's for documentation enjoyers

>>108473905Fuck off Luke, stop spamming this shit.
>>108473589Almost as worse cuck license and code of conduct than Wintroon and macTroon. Use Linux fucking npc baby duck sheep with stockholm syndrome. Loser cuck
>>108473589no systemdno age verificationit just works (tm)
Sane system design, not fractured over 20 different ecosystems. You'll never go back to linux.
>>108473905
>>108474028me listening to schizobabble on /g/
if docker worked on freebsd i would switch over completely.
>>108473589>still have big kernel lock making it slow as shit>no journaling in the filesystem making it lose data on any kind of crashIt's trash, only retarded contrarians would fall for it.
>>108477641Oh and I forgot to mention:>no drivers, making it impossible to use unless you have the same exact make and model of ancient stinkpads the developers have
>>108473589The use case is that you get come out as gay without having to tell anybody.
>>108473589Less faggotry to deal with in the community, meaning less "heated" tags or 250-count childmolesters talking at you from a position of moral superiority. No retarded additions like age-gating.High standards of code-quality.Better compatibility between releases.Project-head who actually lifts.
>>108473589BSD is a complete operating system unlike linux which is just a kernel, each BSD "distro" has a clear focus on what it wants to achive and the documentation is unmatched>TLDR: BSD is the white man's linux
>>108477687It was the source of the original SJW nutso whack job BSDGirl because Linux bros were too mean to her.
>>108478710yes! The most appealing part is that you can run pkg_delete -a and your system works because you installed all the sets that really matter, and they are vacuum-tight.no d-bus, no elogind, no pulseaudio/pipewire or even alsa, Xenocara in place of Xorg, BSD init scriptsIt's only (mostly because it doesn't run Windows games) surpassed by LFS (but don't jump straight into it, Slackware doesn't burn you out the same way if you don't know *exactly* all the packages you might need, and their dependency trees.)
>>108477293Ironic, given that FreeBSD jails are the original Docker.
>>108473589More vertically integrated and stable despite being fairly up to date.
>>108473607>people that just want a PC for web browsing and office stuffThat's definitely not what BSD is for.
>>108477293Doesn't FreeBSD have it's own thing?
>>108477687This is a good point.Linux is funded by half of the tech industry for interests that probably don't align with yours. BSD is funded mostly by router companies that need a fast and minimal OS on their routers. They literally can't afford to have bloat, poor code or bad engineering decisions.
>>108480484linux kernel and linux userspace is different. linux kernel is genuinely superior to BSD kernel, the userspace beyond GNU is absolute retardation in linux.
>>108473589getting cucked is one
>>108480446but that's the only things BSD os are capable of
>>108480865And how does this affect me, as the user?
>>108480873
>>108480885Well?
>>108480872It's mainly for embedded devices.
>>108473589It's for people who think they're too hipster for Linux.
>>108480895wrong, "big" embedded use yocto or buildroot, "small" embedded uses freertos or similar.there is no place for BSD, they use it on the playstation because nips don't want to deal with commie retardation like have contributing back or give your modifications for free.that's really the only reason to use any BSD as they're technically inferior on every single point comparted to linux-based OSes
>>108480459as other anon said, they have jails, which i actually really like, but docker is the lingua franca in industry and i need my personal device to match pretty closely to that. freebsd is awesome though.
>>108480885Wouldn't the end user also be one of the many people getting to enjoy the bounty of a hot piece of BSD software? Unlike Linux where you get the sloppy seconds from hundreds of corporation as they have to leave their "contribution", BSDs are like an infinitely replicating virgin. Everyone gets to use however they like, with no restrictions.
