It's a fucking sandbox. The WHOLE FUCKING POINT OF FLATPACK is for programs to NOT have access to the core system's user information.

This is because major corporations and intelligence agencies have done "soft" or "subversion" takeovers of important open source projects.
I'm not saying I have proof, I'm just saying you should read the minutes of org meetings from 2016 when systemd was adopted solely for GUI login by every major linux distro. Read the minutes of meetings where Gentoo adopts new financial management for their donations, then run down the companies doing the hedge fund investing of the donations until you hit a dead end. Read the git issues on controversial features and the reasoning for adopting them. Look at the adoption of codes of conduct in os projects and the people they were actually used against. Make up your own minds
Flatpak...
Use a microkernel distro if you're going to be running programs you're so afraid of you need to completely isolate them from the system resouces, until a new whitepaper on microkernel escape is released, then switch to a hypervisor running lightweight distros for every single program, until you realize that the only reason you would need to do this was if you were planning on moving all personal computing to the cloud, and forcing people to rent an operating system from you.

I've said this multiple times in the past, at the start of my FOSS journey, and I've said it multiple times today in other related threads. I'll say it again now. Open Source might be more secure in that the code is audit-able, but they are as vulnerable as humanly possible to being controlled by MICE.
>>
>>108475776

Just go to the shiny convenient alternative that appears to agree with you ideologically, chud. It's not a trap or anyrhing.

Thank you!
To add to your point, theoretical auditability is not the same as practical auditability.
is it really "auditable" if the complexity of a single piece of software exceeds the complexity that a single person can understand, make changes to without the expertise of the author(s)? And that's the isolated, discrete piece of software. What about how it interacts with the other components of a real world system?

I see these types of marketing arguments being used everywhere:
"here's the data you can check it yourself." without collection methods.
"it's peer-reviewed" reproduce our financially expensive, highly specialized lab results without our equipment, in your own limited time.

KDE and GNOME are desktop environments, a paradigm popularized by Apple and MacroSlop

DEs are inherently bad because they are an interface on op of the OS’s interface (e.g. using NetworkManager instead of ifconfig to connect to wifi)

In the Unix world, window managers were the default graphical paradigm, until Linux got popular and the MacroSlop refugees started making effort to bring the Windows 95 desktop with them

So the answer is: use a WM you like and learn the OS (preferably a WM not dependent on GTK/Qt or other goyware)

Apple unveiled new device-level age restrictions in the UK on Wednesday. "After downloading a new update, users will now have to confirm that they are 18 or older to access unrestricted features," reports Gizmodo. "Users will be able to confirm their age with a credit card or by scanning an ID."

Apple’s iOS 26.4 age verification system is failing UK (Ultimate Karens) users who don’t have a credit card or photocard driving license, leaving them with no way to prove they’re adults on devices they’ve owned for years.
The system arrived without warning, without explanation, and without any apparent consideration for the people who don’t fit Apple’s narrow assumptions about what a British adult looks like.
