You can't mix and match, so you can't put in 32GB of DDR2 and 32GB of DDR3 and have 64GB, if you put anything in the DDR3 slots it will ignore what's in the DDR2 slots. After I retired that machine, I switched to buying laptops, so that desktop is still sitting around my condo with 16GB of DDR2 from a previous build. >>108483017You can get 15kHz 240p output from pretty much any graphics card over DP with a VGA adapter, some may need to do it via super-resolution due to pixel clock limitations. If you want to get 15kHz 480i, then the ways I know work is to use certain (older, usually) AMD graphics cards with CRTemudriver on Windows or with some kernel patches on Linux AFAIK. Other kinds of cards may also work on Linux with said patches. The pixel clock limit may still be there which would require you to use super-resolutions as well, but with those older AMD cards that seem to be most compatible that is not the case and they can just run native directly.
>>108484326>You can get 15kHz 240p output from pretty much any graphics card over DP with a VGA adapter, some may need to do it via super-resolution due to pixel clock limitations. Can confirm. I don't know why people think this is some secret or not true. >If you want to get 15kHz 480iYou can get 15kHz interlaced output from most older GPUs, like a GTX 960 even with a DP to VGA adapter. I used a GTX 960 for that myself. It's only newer cards that don't support interlaced modes anymore, both Nvidia and AMD.
>>108484446>You can get 15kHz interlaced output from most older GPUs, like a GTX 960 even with a DP to VGA adapter.Yeah, but not all DP to VGA adapters work properly with 480i. I have 3 and only 1 actually works and I bought a specific model after looking it up to figure out which one was good for this use case. Also I believe you can get 480i out of new AMD cards with the Linux kernel patches, like 7000 and even 9000 series cards. Haven't tested this myself though since I don't have any of these cards.

>>108484326>>108484446>>108484603Onboard works too, don't even need a graphics card. Both DP adapter and those with onboard VGA. Gotten 240p and 480i out of older Intel HD iGPU (Haswell) and 240p only with newer ones (Skylake).
>>108484663Yes, iGPUs can work too. VGA outputs on newer mobos can be hit or miss though, because they often aren't "real" VGA but just one of the same converter chips used in dongles placed on the mobo. If you get lucky, your mobo may have a chip which can do 480i and it's all good. If not, then it won't work just like not every DP to VGA dongle works. Worth trying out if you have it before you buy another external converter though.I have an AM4 mobo and a 5700G with a VGA output, the chip on the mobo unfortunately can't do 480i in my case. Works great under Linux with the correct external DP to VGA converter though.
>>108484790True. With the Skylake though I couldn't create interlaced modes at all though, only progressive 15kHz worked.

>>108496728>They only do 480iDid you even read the thread before posting? See >>108484663 >If you're using a super resolution you're not getting true 240p.For the CRT, horizontal resolution doesn't matter. It's as "true" as any other 240p signal, 320x240p, 256x240p, etc. It's the length of the timings in the signal, not the numbers you see on the host side. If you hook up a oscilloscope, the signal is the same. If anything, that's the best quality signal you can get.I think that's where most people get confused.
>>108498219To add to that, the horizontal pulses to the beam get driven straight from the DAC, they are transparent to the CRT.
>>108496728>If you're using a super resolution you're not getting true 240p.this is false, something like 2560x240p is still 240p. crt's in general have no concept of horizontal pixels, only the line count matters. a point filtered 2560px wide picture will look and act identical to say a 320px wide picture
>>108498816sounds like cope
>>108499096it's not. it's a good way to work around minimum pixclk rates of modern cards.a crt doesn't care if a dot is derived from one pixel or 8 pixels, in the example i gave the dot is the same period of time so to a crt the signal is literally the same. and i do mean literally.it's like, what's the difference between an analog signal that goes high for 1/320th of a horizontal line, or 8/2560th of a horizontal line? there is no difference, the analog output is exactly the same
>>108499190
>>108499208if you know something i don't then please go ahead
>>108499210Unless you can output the proper true resolution then you're not doing it. Silly workarounds because "it doesn't count or matter" doesn't mean anything to a literal point that's being made.
>>108499245you're still not getting it. if you scale the horizontal components to a multiple of the one you want (note that this includes hblank as well), then the analog output is quite literally the same. not approximate or good enough, but the actual same. because all that matters is when the signals change voltage. outputting the same voltage 8 times but also 8 times quicker results in the same signal as doing it once but 8x slower
>>108478460All 2000s PCs were mid. Well, I guess the first-gen i7 (2009) was pretty good.

>>108499300even if we were to count horizontal resolution, your original statement that it's not 240p is still wrong. 240p is called that because it means only 240 progressive-scan lines. It doesn't define horizontal res, and ot doesn't do that because that's meaningless to a crt
