Is possible to use ball as gamepad stick?

dunno, give it a shot.

I still use Elecom Deft Pro, but it was sticky so I had to change the bearings after first week and after that it has been fine, but all these years scroll wheel has skipped. Worst is when I click middle mouse button and it 90% of the time scrolls even though I didn't move the scroll wheel.

Debate

I used a thumb ball version for a few years but developed a twitch in that thumb. After switching to a central ball, I haven't had any problems.

Some of the shit console ports essentially do that for mouse controls.
It's pure cancer with regular mouse but super precise with trackball.
Worst offender I've seen is that one western EDF spinoff, all my friends hated the big-fuckoff-beam cannons because it was impossible to aim while firing, while I snapped it from target to target effortlessly.

scroll wheel on this chunk of plastic died for some reason. had it on a shelf and took it off and it was just completely fucked. tried compressed air and all. when i first got it many years back i replaced the bearings and it's felt "decent" to the best of my understanding. do you think it's worth replacing the scroll wheel or are there some other convenient wireless ones? i plan to probably just use it with a laptop so yeah i would prefer wireless.

I fucking loved when laptops ahd these vad boys instead of trackpads. You could use the ball of your hand to move the mouse with prevision and minimal hand movement away from the keyboard. FUCK TRACKPADS!

>>
>>108484179
You don't, clearly. I wonder what the purpose of that post is.
>>
>>108480308
I tried many, gave up and made one myself.
All have unoptimal placement of bearings, only 125Hz sensors, bad placement of buttons etc.

Another thing about trackballs is, mice are far easier in combining a click action with motion. You click with your finger and you move your mouse with your entire lower arm or wrist. Trackballs are uncomfortable, where you have to use two motions with your hand instead. I found using my left-hand keyboard for mouse-button input and right hand for trackball control, the only solution for extensive input.

I bought this guy thanks a few people on /g/ shilling it and it's everything i dreamed it would be: using a ball to move the arrow thingie on my screen
bought it two years ago and it still works like it did out of the box.
I've opened it twice to clean out the gunk.

IT's pretty good for gaming: starcraft and call of duty.

I've been wanting another track ball (work computer), just to try out another brand, but they're kinda pricey and most sound like they'll break in a year, if not buggy right out of the box (elecom).
So I might just buy another L Trac once my work computer's mouse breaks.

I really love being able to use it in bed or very surfaces. Also it is hilarious every time a coworker tries to use it and their brain short circuits kek.

L-trac is probably my favorite trackball mouse, but I like using gun mice more. They keep your wrist even more vertical than most vertical mice and I have never had any issues since. I don't know why more companies don't sell them. If you make a perpendicular fist with your pinky side completely on the bottom and slide it around your desk that's what it feels like using the mouse. Most other vertical mice are taco shaped and it does not make any sense at all.
>>
>>108489006
yeah, i bought the black one cause i hate light or any sort of reflectiong on my screen and glasses.

Also, I wonder how bad other ball mice get, because of how their mechanisms work. The Elecom uses tiny little balls, while the LTrac has rolling pins. Do those little balls ever get dirty? Do they need to get replaced?
Because the roller pins have so much surface space that all the gunk takes like a year before it builds up to the point it affects my aiming/cursoring on my LTrac

The first time i opened my LTrac, i thought that the rolling pins had a rubber coating and was prematurely rotting, because it was flaking off. Thankfully, it was just oily dead skin cells.

>>108489634
I put two extra rubber feet on the left side of mine to angle it for a more ergonomic feel.

Long time slimblader trying out the Elecom Huge Plus. I really like the new roller bearings compared to the little ruby ones in the slimblade. It’s a shame Kensington doesn’t really seem able to put out any new products. The Elecom is okay, I thought the ergonomics would be better honestly, but the ball moves really smoothly. The L-trac seems interesting but not comfy.
>>
>>108489739
All static bearing trackballs aside from gameball are shit. The bearings get dirty too fast. Gameball's geometry means it takes about 2-3 weeks before I need to take the ball out, and cleaning it is just running a finger over the bowl, there's no open window to the sensor.

Because it's single point contact, they do wear out. Gameball is the only static bearing trackball I've been able to use for more than a week without throwing in the garbage, the bearings have a life expectancy of about 2 years of heavy use and replacements are a few cents each and a 10 minute job taking the mouse apart to remove them. I saw noticeable wear on the improved L-trac rollers after about 7 years, but not enough to warrant replacement, I'd estimate 10-15 year lifespan but I stopped using mine. I'd recommend occasionally greasing the shafts where they enter the delrin sleeves with something like silicone grease, once every couple of years. Other trackballs can be more tedious, on an Elecom trackball I had to drill them out from the back to be able to remove them. Ignore anyone who says that a bearing swap will improve performance, it won't. The issue is almost never material, the issue is poor design. All Logitech, Elecom, and Kensington products are designed wrong, Kensington even had a colossal fuckup and recall with their newest trackball due to managing to fuck up the sensor placement.

I think for me, the ideal trackball would be the shell of a slimblade, with the internals and optional scroll whell of the L-trac. You've done a great job in convincing me to buy another LTrac and not bothering to buy anything with tiny little ball bearings.
BUUUT you did make Gameball sound good and they do sound like they make quality, unlike seemingly everything else that breaks in a year. I'm interested in a thumb trackball and Gameball's isn't that expensive despite sounding like it's quality.

>>
I don't know why but I've always thought trackballs are for fats.
>>
>>108495877
Gameball thumb is a rebadged chink ball, I haven't used it and I don't know if its geometry is any good. Gameball is a rebadged industry mouse (Cursor Controls) designed and manufactured in a first world country, like L-trac. There's a pro version coming out at some point but I don't know where that's going to be made, I assume after thumb that the company will shift production to China to save money.

Most other roller bearing mice are just using off the shelf shielded bearings, and I've never been a fan of these because they're designed more for spinning. Good for the arcade, not good for computing.
>>
>>108498959

>>
>>108499570

>>
>>108499580
This trackball almost has good design. The scroll wheel on top is great, although if the design was better it would be a little closer to the ball. But then they only put one button for pinky and ring, which is full retard as far as I'm concerned, and a lot of the buttons look like shit to use.
>>
>>108499626
It was perfectly comfortable to use, dreamy even.
Definitely agree on lack of buttons on the right side though. And thumb side.
All buttons were remappable as well, which made it so much better.
I used Autohotkey in the middle to make those buttons context-aware and set their trigger keys to win+f13 keys onwards

I've wanted to make a modern version of it but I'm also a lazy fuck.
Specifically one thing I would get rid of is WIRELESS SHITE. Fuck wireless.
