Physical media is greatOwning (not licensing or renting) media is greatBut what do we do in 2026 when no one sells you a new minidisk or walkman (every cassette mechanism today comes from 1 factory making cheap horrible quality trash)How do we take ownership of music again?
your phone and an sdcard
>>108480698I use AI
>>108480698Owning media has nothing to do with physical vs digital. You realize music CDs have DRM, right?Just torrent your music and keep it archived on hard drives.
>>108480730This is beyond the normalfag's cognitive capabilities.
>>108480746Not my problem, they can keep getting ass raped by every-increasing Spotify subscription costs for all I care. I have all my shit downloaded in FLAC and that's good enough for me.
>>108480730>physical versus digital Retard
>>108480771No u.
>>108480698Is there a more iconic format than MiniDisc?
>>108480698>not setting up a navidrome serverngmi
>>108480785No>>108480791>muh serverslop
>>108480785Cartridges
>>108480881Nah
>>108480829>fuck having the files disks let me own my medi-ack
>>108480698Sony still makes Walkmans. I have one, it is great. Plays all sorts of lossless media, and I can just pop SD cards in and out if one failshttps://electronics.sony.com/audio/audio-components/hi-res-audio/p/nwwm1zm2
>>108480902A fungus infectionInteresting
>>108480981>glorified mp3 player
>>108480981>soulless >looks like a phone >not fun or inspiring to look at or use>costs more than a phoneMight was well use a phone
>>108480981>tfw got an WM1A for like 400bux from japan on ebayI love the jap secondhand market, all their shit is well taken care of and they ask pennies for shit.
>>108480785Vinyl, obviously. Everything that followed is just ones and zeroes. BORING!
>>108480698>How do we take ownership of music again?if you're poor don't wanna pay, yt-dlp works on youtube music otherwise buy stuff from bandcamp
>we need to go back to dead formats that required dogshit digital proprietary software anyway!zoomer nostalgiafags really are the worst
>>108481130>yt-dlp>not doubledoublengmi
>>108480698Fiio makes their own tape mechs. They're planning on releasing a new compact one this fall.
Did anyone make an SD card or rockbox mod for minidisc players? They looked great but the Atrac transfer interface was garbage
>>108480698>muh physical media that i own>posts proprietary trash formatlol
>>108481653>Atrac transfer interface was garbageif you bought a md walkman that recorded, it was a good excuse to listen to the album once on your stereo while the walkman was recording
>>108480717>your phone and an sdcardAs if finding a phone with a sdcard slot was easy these days. :( These bastards took it away in order to sell much more expensive versions of their phones with a bit more storage instead.
Why didnt they sell music on UMD ?
>>108480771CDs and minidisks are digital. What solution are you proposing, high-def portable tape reels?
>>108480698>How do we take ownership of music again? The buffoonery of fagtarded streaming corpos like Spoti** is incentivizing the return of physical media, but I don't know how far this will go. Not very, I suspect. We can only hope for the best. Bonus points if Sony "remasters" the Minidisc format.>>108481020giga-retard>>108482637rubbish format>>108482868ANALogue is literally old and busted, digital is the futu- oh, wait-
>>108482637They did actually. And movies.
>>108482149Shut the fuck up retard. Host your own cloud storage and have unlimited storage.
>>108480730>You realize music CDs have DRM, right? An extremely small number of them do. Out of the hundreds I own, I have two Euro jazz albums that have copy protection, nothing else.
>>108481081Except tape
>>108482637iirc they did, but the media was read only and the range was really limited.because most early portable players were also recorders, it was easier to buy blank minidiscs when buying cds.
>>108483054agreed, selfhost cloud storage and stream your library. you own your shit as well as it being hella convenient. if your fucking away from internet then ya get local storage
>>108483058im probably wrong but wasn't cd protection cracked or something?
>>108481027>I love the jap secondhand market, all their shit is well taken care ofThat's just a flagrant lie. Yahoo Auctions is littered with horribly damaged crap, with yellowing and rust being particularly common on old electronics thanks to chainsmoking salarymen and the sea air. They also absolutely love leaving batteries in things until they leak and chew away at the contacts. Plus anything owned by a kid will be covered in fucking stickers.
>>108483319skill issue, everything I've purchased has been immaculate.
>>108480981Sony also makes phones with SD card slots
>>108480785cassette
Before I moved onto MiniDisc, this was the last cassette personal stereo I owned and it was fucking superb. Before the many succession of personal stereos, I was 9 years old and I had a radio with headphones. If you told my nine year old self or any of the me's on the timeline that you are going to own a mobile phone that stores your entire music collection or streams all of the music on the planet with wireless earphones or smart glasses, yourselves would rejoice. I just don't understand the need to go back to old tech when what we have surpasses the MiniDisc or the beautiful and beloved Aiwa cassette player I once owned.
>>108483319the yellowing on most units is due to the flame retardant chemical breaking down over the years. just ask if it smells like smoke
media so convenient for compactness.
>>108484884Digital*
>>108480698Bandcamp + SoulSeek. also, you can still buy CDs.
