What the actual fuck is wrong with China? Who the fuck is buying these comically large """phones"""?

https://www.notebookcheck.net/Vivo-X300-Ultra-hands-on-Zeiss-camera-even-thicker-than-on-Vivo-X200-Ultra.1261501.0.html
>>
if you’re gonna get a large phone you might as well go all the way and go full retard
>>
>>108483229
if it had a lidar sensor I would buy it, why do I give a shit if it has a thick lens?
>>
>>108483229
Chinese people, apparently.

I say that about every smartphone these days. People like them, apparently.

That wouldn't bother me aside from not having a case to protect it

Fuck off, phones dont need to be thinner.
If the galaxy 26 was 0.5mm thicker with a 6200mah battery instead of 0.3mm thinner nobody would have ever complained because it would be topping the charts for flagships. Better sustained thermal performance and 25% longer battery life, and they could've fit a real 10x zoom back into it.
It would have been a perfect phone.

But nooooo,
Posh retards making reviews would have said
>buhhht iddds so slightly bigger that you can barely even notice thd difference and that's bad :(
They can fuck off and die.
Much like the megapixel wars ruined the quality of small cameras, the thin size wars ruined the usefulness of phones.
Kill these creatures masquerading as people, they aren't intelligent enough to be human.

But will it though? Higher quality cameras would give more detail which would be like seeing pores and cellulite on 4k porn. Running a photo from a shittier camera through an AI beautify filter would likely do much more for social media narcissism nowadays.

Sad times when Apple are the main vendor to make sanely-sized phones
>>
>>108483229
I agree, smartphones are getting weird, and both Apple & Google are too controlling about what software can be installed on them so I have decided to abandon smartphones, I won't buy a new one, I rather own a small laptop for portable use and keep a dumb phone that has a hotspot feature

I am sure I am not the only one that came to this conclusion
>>
>>108484105
you would have thought being stuck at home during Covid makes people return to desktops and laptops, but they just got bigger phones instead

The weird thing is that one of the few things Steve Jobs did right was insist that the iPhone should be small, they didn't hop on the trend until Tim Apple took over

Who's the genius who made the measurements? The camera line isn't even parallel to the ridges, and it starts from the edge instead of the back surface.

I’d live a phone with a small attachable lens (not those clip-on shits from third parties). Phone lenses have pretty much stopped improving in decent conditions due to physics, so just add a yuge sensor to the back of the phone when needed and integrate it natively.
Xiaomi had a proof of concept like that but never sold it. Might make me switch to jeetdeoid if it appears and works well

Extremely jeet-coded response, but no, I have a Xiaomeme 17 Ultra right in front of me and no amount of hardware could save it from the bloated dogshit software it came with. I could not understand anyone shilling this garbage outside of 3rd world countries where their only access to the internet likely is their phone.

Why would I use any modern phone? My Motorola Moto G XT1032 just works and it's comfortable. All of these newer phones have glass and plastic and metal backs but mine has this nice grippy rubber.

Nobody until someone on Toktok makes it a trend, and then you have to.
>>
Have we actually reached a point where people have done a 180 on hating thin phone trends, to now suddenly wanting them to be paper thin?
Fuck off with that thin nonsense.
Phones should all double their thickness and double the battery capacity and use a lot larger camera sensors.
So far they're just slapping more and more AI on these fuckers because they're hardware limited and have to try and pretend progress.
The only way for any meaningful gains in camera tech is simply using larger sensors.

Changphones are all using newer, larger, and better sensors than iPhones THOUGH. They "mog" Apple on hardware but suck with software.

Chinks were the reason we went from small comfy phones to these massive phablets. They were too poor to afford a real computer so they purchased that.

>>
>>108487518
Even with a smaller lens (Like fixed-50mm), you're under no delusion that a DSLR or mirrorless camera is pocketable. This does not apply to phones
>>
>>108487657
If you wanna be historically accurate, Samsung (Gooks) kickstarted the trend
>>
>>108488193
the physics and geometry of sensor:lens is the same no matter what platform it is on
>>
>>108488180
The Pixel 10 Pro is around the size of my Xperia 10 III and I consider that to be a very manageable size. What's more important in phone size is the width, when they're narrower your thumb has an easier time getting around the screen, and IMO that's the sort of size that I'd consider "small" nowadays. It's not super tiny to the point where I have issues using it at all, but it's also not so gigantic that I have issues using it one-handed.

Telephoto lens, for taking photos of wildlife that will never let you get close, or too dangerous to get close to
>>
>>108488217
yes its an exaggeration but even a 24-70 lens at 24mm (so smallest size) is roughly twice the length of a dslr body.
100mm macro lens is also longer
in fact i don't know if i own a lens which is shorter than the camera body
>>
>>108488208
I meant the camera itself. Picrel is the body of my DSLR, literally no lens, does this really look like something you'd shove in your pocket? No, precisely, a phone should be pocketable, either extend the casing to have no bump, or make a smaller sensor so that you can use a smaller lens
>the physics and geometry of sensor:lens is the same no matter what platform it is on
Yeah, but proportionally the lens can be shorter, superzoom cameras have lenses that extend ~6 inches and go between like 35mm and 1200mm equivalent focal length, only for like what? 200-500 dollars for the whole thing? If I wanted a lens with similar capabilities for my camera, it'd be 3-4 feet long and cost about 10 grand (if not more)
>>
>>108488266
my point is that it's not unreasonable at all for a decent camera phone to have a lens thicker than the camera body.
these high end camera phones occupy a niche where it's supposed to be people who want higher quality photos which they can reasonably pocket.
