I hate web development. It has literally hijacked the term "programming" over the last decade. Programming used to mean C++ or Java; now it's almost exclusively associated with frameworks like React. Searching for "how to learn programming" these days pretty much just points you straight to web development.
Is this the early 2000 opinions thread?

web development is literally the practice of developing software which targets the web as a platform. i have no idea why nocoders and c-hello-worlders cling to the idea that trashing on webdev makes you look good.. it makes you look like a fucking noob. there is no fundamental difference between building a program for the web with typescript vs building a program for desktop with c or whatever. one of them is just harder and more impressive.

Web Apps are the only way to bridge the desktop/tablet/phone divide. Unfortunate reality of different products, different operating systems, one app.WinForms and Windows-native app dev was so comfy, I miss it.

cope and seethe, desktoplet. web programming is the pinaccle of software engineering as a technical discipline, requiring the most sophisticated and smartest brains to accomplish incredible technological feats. and because the web is a universal platform, developers can reach the most amount of people. the third world now has access to all of the collective knowledge of humanity thanks to web developers. imagine what billions of people can accomplish with access to this knowledge. global collaboration. global solutions to global problems like climate change and women's emancipation. the potential breakthroughs are astounding to think about. the web will literally usher in a star trek society, empowering humanity to colonize the stars.
