I hate web development. It has literally hijacked the term "programming" over the last decade. Programming used to mean C++ or Java; now it's almost exclusively associated with frameworks like React. Searching for "how to learn programming" these days pretty much just points you straight to web development.

Is this the early 2000 opinions thread?

It started around 2015, with VS Code

Remember to thank AI chads for saving you from the webshit menace

web development is literally the practice of developing software which targets the web as a platform. i have no idea why nocoders and c-hello-worlders cling to the idea that trashing on webdev makes you look good.. it makes you look like a fucking noob. there is no fundamental difference between building a program for the web with typescript vs building a program for desktop with c or whatever. one of them is just harder and more impressive.

Gluing a bunch of frameworks together, setting some config files and filling out templates isn't programming, it's clerical work. Webdev isn't software development, it's a modern secretary.

Web dev has been the biggest source of tech jobs though

JeetScript takes zero skill, Java and C++ is masterfully crafted. Fixed it for you Prajeesh

Creating webapp is the same as creating desktop app

The business logic on the back-end can be as complex as anything else, and covers a myriad of different languages, technologies, architectures, and services. The web is just the easiest and most accessible platform for end users.

this isn’t what faangers/mag7’s/bluechip/fortuneX00 developers are doing, and you know it. thats why you guys hate kube/docker/etc. because you get filtered by async/concurrency/scaling. no one is talking about little jeet devshops here.

That you can flip some bits and change variables via pointers isn’t impressive, bucko

just like call centers. too bad both fields are co opted by jeets. better get to studying C since low level is a bar that they cannot clear

Web Apps are the only way to bridge the desktop/tablet/phone divide. Unfortunate reality of different products, different operating systems, one app.

WinForms and Windows-native app dev was so comfy, I miss it.

Doesn't make it software development any more than there being lots of nursing jobs doesn't make them into heart surgeons.

I like Vibe Programming myself.

Unc its all about agentic programming now with rust or python. Web dev has been dead for at least five years. React was okay from 2015-2020, it was rails/larvel/php from 2007-2015 or so.

cope and seethe, desktoplet. web programming is the pinaccle of software engineering as a technical discipline, requiring the most sophisticated and smartest brains to accomplish incredible technological feats. and because the web is a universal platform, developers can reach the most amount of people. the third world now has access to all of the collective knowledge of humanity thanks to web developers. imagine what billions of people can accomplish with access to this knowledge. global collaboration. global solutions to global problems like climate change and women's emancipation. the potential breakthroughs are astounding to think about. the web will literally usher in a star trek society, empowering humanity to colonize the stars.
