to this day I am shocked at how people allowed Red Hat to have ANY say over ANYTHING.
They are such obvious infiltrators, working on behalf of companies that want to kill FOSS. We really need to bring gatekeeping back.

We can that old Windows XP, 7 and old Mac OS X versions for starting DEI and LGBT stuff. Finally thanks to Apple and Microsoft, others like Canonical, Red Hat and Linux community started also implement DEI/LGBT and rest is history.

Even the shitty code of conduct from Windows XP, 7, FreeBSD, Mac OS X was finally forced to Linux kernel and after that we got BSD-tier cuck license also from Windows and macOS to ruin some of the projects in the FOSS community.

There is nothing worse than Windows, macOS and BSDs. Fuck you.

Linux peaked between 2005-2008, was ok in 2012, and since then it only got worse on the desktop. As a server system it got better.

This, all the effort over the past fifteen years has been to improve it for servers, and niche usecases. Linux as a desktop is either a humiliation ritual, or some problem you want to give yourself because it satiates your autism to solve the puzzle of fixing it.

Wow, never heard that before. In the real world, it never works as well as Windows, and if you cannot tame windows to work as you need, you’re brainless.

Linux works better than windows now, except specifically in cases where devs don't support Linux (either due to gross incompetence or ms kickbacks).
>>
>>108488425
No, in general it doesn’t. It may work well enough for your needs, but it’s far from suitable for the vast majority of users. Supporting the “linux desktop” (whatever that may be) isn’t worth the time for most software developers to support, absolutely nothing incompetent about that.

Those companies would be nowhere without Linux.
Linux would be nowhere without GNU.
The world would have thrived with BSD even without Linux.

>>
>>108485170
Ah yes. Companies (especially red hat) that were responsible to remove the entire meaning of the projects they built on. Scrubbing all mention of user freedom, free software, copyleft and GNU. Responsible for the corporate "nonthreatening" terms like open-source and Linux. Enough so end users would not see its importance and Microsoft would still have a stronghold over them. They were, and still are, a net negative.

>>
>>108485170
Valve caused people to not demand native Linux apps and now over reliance on Windows

Red Hat commercially made Linux into a paid operating model

Ubuntu killed off older versions and software for profit

Shut up about their existence for good when you’re ignoring the bad negative feedback.

Red Hat especially is responsible for a huge amount of shit. Canonical contributes to Debian. Archfags, and Linuxfags in general, reap the benefits of Gaben single handedly making gamin on Linux not suck. A huge amount of the Linux world

You are not in a position to speak for all users. You may believe what you say, but you have no real and meaningful evidence to support it.

The reality is that Microsoft has an incredible sales team that has maintained relationships with C-level decision-makers who decide in backroom deals what OS is going to be used by their employees. It is absolutely nothing to do with being good for the average use case. I've seen it happen over and over.

Consult general any desktop share survey you like until you discover that you're wrong.

Linux also has an incredibly vocal sales team, freetard evangelists who have been saying the exact same things for over 30 years (go see old forums, you'll see people from 2003 telling you that "linux just does everything you need now"), yet despite this and the fact that it's completely free of charge, it sits at about 2-4%. The reality is that Windows (despite its flaws) just works, and is the most pain free alternative for people that need to get things done, no amount of screeching about "backroom deals" changes this fact.

>Valve caused people to not demand native Linux apps and now over reliance on Windows
Turning Windows into a common ABI for Linux games is not 'reliance on Windows'. If Microsoft deleted all traces of Windows tomorrow it would matter not one bit for Linux gaming.
>Red Hat commercially made Linux into a paid operating model
Paid software was always an intended use case for the GPL. Don't use GPL if you don't want someone to make a commercial version.
>Ubuntu killed off older versions and software for profit
nani?
>>
yeah thanks red hat for ruining linux
>>
>>108494549
Open source was a lot more interesting then, because it really eschewed all the identity politics nonsense. Now you've got RIIR tards in the kernel.
>>
>>108494709
Desktop share survey isn't evidence for your claim. Again, you are unqualified to make the claim you made (and now you're schizo rambling about the 'freetards' in you head).
>>
>>108494587
no, you fucking bumbling retard, it's because of all the wine patches sent upstream from proton that make wine actually worth 2 cents these days. before proton, wine was a buggy and unstable piece of shit that broke in between release versions because non-corpo open sores contributors are fucking braindead

Users freely migrate to alternative browsers despite Apple shipping Safari, and Microsoft pushing Edge (and Explorer of yesteryear). If linux made their lives easier they'd migrate to a new OS too.
>>
>>108496510
Wrong. OS's are high friction, difficult to change. Most people only pick a new OS when they get a new computer. Browsers are trivial to change. Most people do not even evaluate different OS's before choosing one, if they even get to choose (many employers choose).

Nice to see you exposing how utterly ignorant of this topic you really are. At this point I don't even have to say anything about Linux at all, you just keep digging yourself deeper.
>>
>>108496578
I don't want to waste anymore time talking to you, because you're clearly an imbecile, but this is too irresistible.
>(many employers choose).
Yeah, no fucking shit. That's how you organize people to accomplish their task, would you have them aimlessly distrohop throughout paid hours? That's what you do, it doesn't accomplish anything, and we both know you're not even being paid lol.
>>
>>108496431
It's simply not. There's nothing emotional about this. It's not hard to understand. People don't try out alternate operating systems. At some point they become a windows user or a mac user. Either becausevthey used it at work, or because that's what was on sale at Best Buy, the overwhelming majority of normalfags simply never even considered Linux an option. Therefore they never evaluated it, therefore you cannot make conclusions about its utility from usage stats.
>>
>>108496654
>distrohopping
You need to step away from the 4chans for a bit as you seem unable to think except in memes and you're unable to form a coherent argument.

>Linux is good for general users (says you)
>General users haven't been exposed to linux (real linux has never been tried!)
Very coherent. There is some wisdom in crowds, there are very few barriers to testing out linux, and yet all available data we have shows that users refuse it. Desktop linux has been very easy to install for about two decades, that's plenty of time for ideas to spread. Companies such as Dell have even offered linux pre-installed and all it accomplished was ruining some girl's life.

Have you ever considered that they just don't like it, rather than inventing new forms of cope? Are we to pretend that people who pirate windows and install that are incapable of using linux which is free?
