Based. Total AI victory! Coders are learning their places now
>>
>>108489357
>AI is now highly skilled at programming, and better than me at almost every programming task, with inhumanly-low defect rates.
Nobody who is an actually competent programmer would say this, except in the case of severe mental illness.
In terms of programming ability, LLMs take from the average across github (shit,) with an extra malus of not being able to actually understand things.

It's obviously a desperate marketing stunt.

is this another way of saying his interesting programming blog is never going to be interesting again?
>>
That's a shame, his blog actually has some interesting articles. I don't understand pro-AI people who aren't building their own startup or aren't heavily invested in AI companies. You are simply accelerating your commodification if you are a normally employed SWE. If/as the models get smarter, the user will have less of an impact on model performance. AI "skills" will matter less-and-less as heavily instrumented harnesses, human-authored specifications, and other interventions become less critical to getting good model output. By becoming reliant on AI-tooling now, you are directly depreciating your human capital through skill atrophy and by providing the AI labs with high quality training data. That data is specifically that which is most-relevant to automating your own job because it will train models to be better solving the kinds of problems you solve and the kinds of solutions you as an individual come up with.
>>
>>108489554
Cope. You aren’t required anymore
>>
The only loss that would hurt me more is if the regdumper takes the AI pill.
>>108489490
Yes, sadly
>>
>>108489399
The avg across shithub is still largely functional, and with a good skillset you can probe the better parts of the dataset.
>>
>>108489554
Disagree, as they get smarter being smarter yourself will make you do exponentially better work.
Regarding skill atrophy, I’ll keep using a circular saw even if sawing by hand would make me stronger. Tools are designed to replace effort, and learning those tools is the new thing to put your effort into.

The guy never knew what he was talking about. Remember when he rambled about tar+gzip being superior to zip files?

Remember how he threw a tantrum when people pointed out that a single damaged byte would destroy the entire .tar.gz whereas in a zip archive it would damage a single file at most?

Remember how he said that having to read the full 12TB .tar.gz just to list files was a non-issue and zip having indexes is useless?

Remember how he bragged that tar kept more date resolution but never acknowledged that retarded unix troons don't support basic things like FILE CREATION DATE whereas zip+windows happily do.

What did he mean by this?
>>
>>108489370
Oh no.

...Anyway... people that actually USE THEIR BRAINS will continue to program. Retards like "nullprogram" will be left behind when the bubble pops (and it's popping).

the wood working example is retarded there is a certain entry barrier to compete when making a furniture and people do judge hand made quality vs mass production not so with software in which mass slop can be generated by the seconds.

Why do you think it's popping? These things are now entrenched in every FANG company and lots of smaller ones. They're being used for production code right now, and have been for a while. I'm no ai bro and I find it sad the way it's changing the job scope and replacing/redefining positions that people spent their lives on.

But you'd have to have your head in the sand to not see the usefulness of these things. And unfortunately one of the things they're best at is code.

Writing production code in effectively all the biggest, richest companies on the planet and many other smaller ones...
It's also completely changed the way translators work. Now instead of doing everything by hand, the ai does a first pass and then the translators do a second pass to fix the minor mistakes it makes. It's called MTPE and it's the go to standard now thanks to ai. As it gets better assumedly it will just straight up replace translators.
>>
>>108491069
seems like many people suck at programming
>>
Why do older people who like AInrelaize that the negative aspects of AI might not affect them, but will have a negative effect on entry level employees trying to get their foot on the door? 40-60 year old employees seem to lack any self-awareness or big picture thinking, its all about how something benefits them and the company in the short term, without considering how the job market might look in 10byears or even sooner.
>>
>>108489399
>retard
Coding is one of the only things AI should actually be doing. No, not with the direction of some retarded Indians. Actual coders. It's far more efficient, easier to fix and there are far fewer mistakes overall. Only clueless retards are against AI coding.
>>
>>108489357
He's in his honeymoon period with LLMs. Will wait for his 2027-28 updates to this post.
>>
>>108491850
Only a retard who doesn't know how to code would say this. When you actually know what you're doing and can properly instruct the AI it's strictly superior to doing it yourself.
>>
>>108491891
>properly instruct the AI
have fun wasting time asking it nicely to produce the code you're expecting while I write it correctly the first time faggot

Zips aren't totally controversy free. Nonstandard encryption bs, stuck on outdated compressor. Pretty much the only thing good about zips is they fit a lot or very weird, but helpful use cases.
Central directory being at the end and using offsets from it mean you can do funky shit like cat muh.exe muh.zip

I hate tar though too. 3+ different entry header and extended metadata format, even I've got a minor issue because of pax, gnu, ustar confusion.
