File explorer is a chrome tab in windows 11 LOL
>>108490830For microslop thats an improvement
Everything in software is just circular now. We've run out of actual useful things to build.Native software has to become a web app, then has to be ported back to native software. All our servers must move from on prem to the cloud, then 5 years later back to on prem again. All new groundbreaking software is now just meta-software: software for writing software or running software. AI coding, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible. Keep the investor money flowing because look how fast we can write software now, look how easy it is to deploy! Just don't ask what software we're actually writing
>>108490830holy fuck you're right... parts of the UI behave the same way webpages do when resizing elements. The main view and the top bar. Are they fucking serious...?
>>108490830Jesus fucking Christ. If the endgame was just having what windows 10 had already, why didn't they just LEAVE IT ALONE?
Why did they even add web-based wrappers in the first place?
>>108491547Because they still want to harvest your data
>>108491549They couldn't figure out how to make their windows look "good" so they hoped glorified web pages made with react and css would do the trick
>>108491566Windows 10 is full of telemetry cancer. And I think they can collect much more data if the system actually works than if everything is so broken that you have to wait literally seconds for the file explorer to open. There was never a reason to use a fucking webapp to begin with.

>>108490830everything on windows userspace is electron shit
>No sourceOk.
>2026>having a reasonably optimized app built into your system is being announced as a feature>>108491519>We've run out of actual useful things to build. We haven't but the things we aught to be building aren't as exciting.
>>108490830>File explorer is a chrome tab in windows 11 LOLYou know very well that's not what they mean with native.>>108491602>everything on windows userspace is electron shitSource or GTFO
Hardware limitations made software quality great again
>>108491547Windows 11 was an experiment that failed miserably and it took Microslop 5 years to realize that. Better late than ever tho, you'd think they'd instead quadruple down and insist on enshittifying it further to protect their izzat, so admitting to fucking up and taking steps to rectify that is a huge improvement. Nvidia told everyone to suck it and get fucked when they disliked DLSS5, so Microsoft is definitely on a good track as far as the FAANG corpos go.
>>108490830I will have any regard for windows and it's devs only if they return to Aero stlye from win7 and throw away trash opaque white squares they contracted during win8.WinUI is when the cancer started, it's no better than web shit.
>>108491758>i only care about how it looks, it's ok if it still spies on me so long as it looks like 7
>>108491786I would actually bother with getting rid of spyware. With win11 it's not worth it.And it's not only looks, it is everything else. UX, performance and then it's vibe~ too. How does win11 feel like? Like cheap trash, it makes your modern machine feel like it belongs in the museum. While win7 era software was visually stunning and very pleasant to use casually.
>>108491549Webshitters are cheaper, and the only thing jeets know
>>108490830THANK GOD.I'm usually laughing at babby ducks afraid of the next version of windows for stupid reasons, but holy fuck the ui in 11 is just S L O W
>>108491758What's with all the aero glazing recently
SAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRS
>>108490830How long before they give up?
Here's hoping they just use the old windows 10 code instead of trying to reinvent the wheel building native from scratch with their current jeet devs. Only reason I'm still on windows is explorer.exe
They move to web platform tech, which can be just as good as “native,” but they put shitty engineers on it and it ends up a disaster. Now they need to spend more money to implement a more niche and expensive tech (WinUI). A decades-old tale at this point.
>>108490830> winuiso it will still be slow as shit> rebuildwhy not just offer the old file explorer?
What happened to Microsoft? How did they get to this point?
>>108491549webshitters are plague because the bar is low so they turned everything into webapp
>>108491915It was good. Apple fucked it up, but they know what's good. They are just not very good at replicating it.
>>108490830Explains why it hangs or freezes when you open a folder
>>108491637>aren't as exciting.>as optimizing a program built into the system 30 years ago
>>108492019>What happened to Microsoft? How did they get to this point?you know very well what happened, but you want us to say "fuck jeetniggers" so you can honeypot us and blackmail us later. well guess what, the whole world hates jeet fucking niggers who destroyed american tech industry, so there's no potential there.
>>108492139peeps hated it when it was released
Hasn't Explorer been a browser window since 95?
>>108492170Because you are using pre installed bloatware. You can actually download or even build your own file explorer software. There are multiple projects on that.Funny thing is that microsoft did the previous file explorer major fixes only after such custom software started getting traction.Another funny thing is that once people started copying some mac features like basic search bar that actually works, microslop announced they are going to fix search in the next update.Same things happened with task bar in win11. There was custom software doing that for win10.It's almost as if microslop employees either steal software, or use Copilot to do one-shot it and it basically steals open source code. In the end they pretend microslop did it.
>>108492314They hated vista breaking apart, not having drivers and being slow, not aero itself. Nobody really hated 7 after sp1, as far as I remember. Is win7 good? No, it's pure shit, full of vulns. But aero was good. And general approach to building 3rd party apps was good too. They were fast, flexible and reliable enough for people to consider win7 one of the most stable and reliable windows.
>>108492353no, people though aero was ugly and unnecessary bloat
>>108492360DOS user? Or are you a UNIX guy posting this from vim?
This has been known since the first alpha and beta builds in 2021, why act like its something new?
>>108491923Some of this shit is bloat, but if you want any semi decent layouts, your dom is going to look like this.
>>108492371no I was just alive at the time
every god damn thing is a chrome tab in windows 11 sir. namaste.
with the expensive RAM has become and with the new Mac Neo, MS is urged to make Windows run good with only 8 gbs of RAM. Prolly they are getting the preassure from Lenovo and HP who need to compete with the Neo.
>>108492386I was as well. Actually I have a funny story regarding how I discovered win7.I found a pirated copy on the ground. In the wet mudd to be precise. A dvd without a case. So I took it home, washed and dried it. Inserted it into my machine and realised this must be either older or a newer version of Windows. So I tried it out of curiosity. So yeah, I was very impressed by the new UI. I have memories of that day for a reason. Cannot say the same about most Macs, I wish I never saw most of them in my entire life.
>>108492533i'm not talking about win7, squirt.
>>108491923who you suppose to implement a web only login (iCloud) page? any other app doesn't have this unlike jeetdows where everything is a web app now.
>>108492537We are talking about win7, which uses aero.
>>108490830>In WinUItoo bad WinUI is complete dogshit to point that no one uses it and it was also reason why microslop went with webshit UIs, so they would need to start by fixing it first.
I thought Windows was Electron since 10
>>108490830It used to be an IE window since Active Desktop...
>>108491637What kind of things do you think we should be working on?
>>108490830Why on earth would they move away from native apps in the first place? What does MS do if they don't even build their own software?
>>108491915Unironically people too young to have remembered something feel misplaced nostlagia for it. Olderfags who glaze UNIX or SGI are the exact same flavor of retard.
>The year is 2030>Native is no more>Chromium has removed the need for a compositor>A window is just a div>Most applications no longer control their rendering>They're just embeds
>>108490830I don't understand this. What's the difference? So if I run chrome on linux it will come with a file browser too?
>>108491519>Everything in software is just circular now. We've run out of actual useful things to build. This is true. The more you work in tech the more you realize that computing is a solved problem and that we've been spinning our wheels since Ruby on Rails. I do like ARM, and I think it's not the future but the now. Miniaturization and making things faster and cooler is a worthwhile purpose, but the changes needed for software to run on ARM are minimal.
>>108490830is this bad
>>108490830yuck, anyone that posts this twitter account isn't organic content, they're just spammers. they flood reddit as well.
>>108491549Because they learned nothing from Active Desktop with Windows 98 and Me. At least that time it was their own web rendering engine.
>>108495366Active desktop was an optional thing. Also, IE 4/5 is so far removed from a modern web browser its not even correct to conceptualize them as the same type of thing. IE 4/5 is closer to being native than a modern "native" ui toolkit.
>>108491547>why didn't they just LEAVE IT ALONEGotta justify having 50k people on the payroll or something.I'd wager win 11 was sold internally as a modernization of the UI by using web technologies so it's easier for jeets and newhires to develop new features and it's easier to embed their bing ads inside them.Honestly speaking the windows monetization model is just unsustainable at this point, they basically get paid 150$ for a license once and have to then provide support for the next 10 years, so they just are in the process of extracting every cent they can from every user.
>>108495477>Active desktop was an optional thing.IE integration into Explorer windows was very much NOT optional. The side pane in Me was IE/Trident
>>108495366>>108495753It's also why you could just type a web address into an Explorer window. Enough of Internet Explorer was in there that it didn't have to launch a new window.
>>108491535youre late to the party, the first version of w11 broke completely when you uninstalled edge
Windows 95 software is usable today because it loads quickly and is responsive. We're able to use 5ghz 3nm processors with 96 cores today but software is garbage and takes a long time to load. It feels like vibecoding and Indianslop was a thing way before LLM agents came along.
>>108493984It's good news, because now Windows is going to get even faster and leaner. People complained and they seem to have listened, even issuing an apology letter for the decline. I hope they deliver.
Bro how is Windows 11 so shit and people still use it over Linux?
>>108495840Because it's not as bad as Xbaiters claim when you actually use it. It runs the programs and games you need and drivers just work. Whatever complaints exist, it does not force the user to suffer using inferior freetard software. It's the best for developers too, not only can you develop for the platform everyone uses, WSL2 lets you run any linux system you want.
>>108490830Absolutely retarded.Considering AI is good now, Windows should be rewritten in pure C, make no mistakes
>>108490830this is good news, but why haven't they announced windows 12 yet?
>>108495977Use case for Windows 12?
>>108496140more money for microsoft corporation so their stock stops collapsing.
>>108492360This. Because it is. If you cant into Win95 or better yet 3.1, why dontcha go back to China.
>>108492470Also this. ASUS went full Linux and some of the others will follow.
>>108491547>Implying that they're at all capable of writing native software
>>108490830IIRC Windows Explorer used to use web elements pre-Edge (since XP but could be even earlier). It's a skill issue.
>>108495840The average person doesn't consider options at all. It's not like everyone sits down and considers Mac, Windows, Linux, or BSDs the first time they get on a computer. They just use whatever is there. The massive online advertising industry is dependent on people not spending 10 seconds to install a single extension in their browser. Google's massive grip on the internet is dependent on it simply being the default choice on my platforms. Most people never stray from defaults and normalfags will sooner just buy a new computer when their old one "gets slow" then consider what software is actually on the computer.
They already built them thirty fucking years ago, just use those
>>108496425Yeah, just give a complete normie BSD, are you out of your mind? This is the problem with FOSS, you really, truly just do not get it.
You can help yourself.https://github.com/LesFerch/SwitchExplorer
>>108491519The massive investment on cloud is what made extremely powerful and efficient servers that are now cheaper to keep on prem possible. You can have 320 cores and 3tb of ram in a single rack unit with the latest Epycs.
>>108491547I look like this and I do this.
>>108490830I hope they get their shit together by the time win10 ltsc reach its eol. As a WPF dev the future looks pretty grim, none of our clients wants to upgrade to win11 and some are considering moving to linux.
>>108496664>some are considering moving to linux.They won't.
>>108490830>AppsIt's software
>>108491535Webdevs are cheap, even more so if they're from the third world. It doesn't matter if Microsoft is worth several trillions increasing profit by 0.00001% through labor cost reduction is worth destroying everything.
>>108490830Everything is Chrome in the future.
>>108490830It's still going to be awful jeetcode.
>>108491547They said Windows 10 would be the last version of Windows... they just didn't say there wouldn't be a Windows 11 in between.
>>108491923Do iNiggers really use a javascriptOS?I mean pajeetOS always felt slow as fuck even 20 years ago but jesuschrist.
I blame v8 and its stupid fast JIT, also Intel for making fast single threaded performance the norm
>>108491549Because all their new developers only knew web languages.
>>108492327no, that happened in '97 with the desktop update. it was built in since win98.
>>108490830Windows 10 just works
>>108491547they wanted web app everything because it makes developing faster, quicker, and labor cheaper.they just failed to realize web anything runs like absolute dogshit.
>>108497657just like my penis in your mum's butthole
>>108497237i might be a vibe code developer but i have learned enough to know parallelism isn't as easy as people make it out to be. you can't just multithread everything. single threaded performance will always matter and be the norm.
>>108496433There's no money to be made there.
>>108496672They will.
