Everybody's screeching about this or that in Linux enshittification, but this seemed to fly under the radar>Ubuntu 26.04 minimum requirements>6GB RAMIs this the true indicator of end of an era?
>>108497553>it's real
>>108497553>ubuntuone one hand, xfce will always exist, on the other, ram requirements will keep going up whether you like it or not
>>108497553Meanwhile, Linux Mint:>System requirements:>2GB RAM (4GB recommended for a comfortable usage).
I wonder, what utility or purpose do these constant background processes actually serve, in what way do they benefit the user, where the system could not function without them? In my mind, the perfect system has ZERO hardware requirements. Everything else depends on how it is used.
>>108497585by the time the Wayland session for Cinnamon goes stable you can expect that 4GB to be minimum, as well (6GB for comfortable usage).
>>108497598it's mostly systemd>what utility or purposewhatever they tell (You) that you need
Why do modern OS require millions of checks and calculations per second? What exactly are they doing? When a user is not interacting with the machine and yet it is still drawing power and generating heat while sitting "idle" what is happening?
>>108497815mining crypto mostly
>>108497815it's for your own good, goy
>>108497626It's not. Debian is still 512mb minimum. It's probably the desktop or pre-installed apps. Ubuntu is a heavily opinionated bloated fork it's not really representative of Linux as a whole or systemd. Arch, Fedora, and Debian are all systemd and can all be installed with nothing but basic system utilities and boot into a TTY. Ram usage requirements goes up depending on what you install naturally. Rattle your sabres at bloated desktop environments first before blaming an init system.
>>108497815Don't ask questions, don't think about it. Just accept it.
>>108497553rust won. you lost incel.
>>108497815you thought you could buy a piece of land, grow your own vegetables, run your own local business, harvest rain water? You thought that golem dalit? Did you think that?Replace with cpu.You bought it but it's not yours.
like, do people even realize how many bits 6gb is? like, wtf are they even doing with all that? it's not like a desktop environment is a AAA game loading 16k texture assetsthat shit should be like 64kb max
>>108497553>Windows is bloat-ACK
