was 2 bars too much? I mean when we used Gnome 2 paradigm (or MATE)
How else would you differentiate from Apple and Windows?
>>108497686so it was only for looks? I tried to re adopt this paradigm the other day and I had the feeling it was a waste of pixels (windows could be a bit biggerbut i believe it is just perception since it is like 36 to 40 pixels both bars, it is like having a buffy top bar or bottom bar what i mean is that i feel odd using the gnome 2 paradigm nowadays despite i like it
>>108497666I always delete the bottom panel.
>>108497727fuck you. top panel is some macfag shit, except it doesn't work like a mac. do it windows 95 style. full screen program, mouse to upper right corner to close it. this is garbage and you are garbage
>>108497736Panels are heavy with window switchers and information, and I like them on top rather than bottom like in Windows. Aligns with browser tabs too.
>>108497666Here, this is how perfection looks like.
>>108497823too big IMEon a laptop i prefer 20 pixels at much for a panel.
>>108497727when you have lots of windows the top bar is not enough, it will clutter, that's why the bottom panel is a good idea
Top panel is for temperatures and resource usage. Bottom panel for windows and start menu, like God intended.
>>108497929milk. mommy milk.
>>108497956Blue board.
>>108497710I like Global Menu and the Darwin widget on the top right.
>>108497956>milk
>>108497973milk is blue>>108497998that is delicious mommy milk
>>108497736>windows 95 styleWhich Microsoft swiped from Acorn.
>>108497929yes that's what i will try to do, will see how it goesi just got used to one panel but it is not enough anymore
>>108498180COUNTRY ROOOADS TAKE ME HOOOME
Panels should never be horizontal. There is much more horizontal space than vertical
>>108498419Sound argument, you are right, but convenience and familiarity are strongest contenders as motivations.
>>108498419I also agree with this one, but the vertical panel solutions are not that great on linux, Windows 10 was very solid (Win7 too), but on linux the only option is Plasma, on other environments you'll notice they're simply not made to be used vertically some objects will lost features (clock) or will simply misbehave. Also, on web, most sites are made to be 16:9 with the 9 being the variable, if you reduce horizontal space the content will rearrange in a very shitty way compared to reducing vertical space. What a disappointment (website's fault)
>>108497666nice trips
>>108497666Yes, GNOME was always overrated. 3 was merely a sidegrade.
>>108498761i remember mint trying to stick to the gnome 2 paradigm with extensions and a bottom panel (which many months later became cinnamon)great stuff, specially gnome 3.4
>>108497666ant posters should be shot
>>108497736panel is title bar which means it should be on top
>>108498180nobody ever heard of gaycorn. I'm from 1983 and Windows 95 actually was a thing, and that's what all the good DE's (Cinnamon and KDE if you like fucking around) rip off
>>108498854linux DEs are based on Unix's CDE which came in 1993 predating win95
>>108497823how did you install visual studio on Linux??
>>108498875sure thing, zoomer. I installed Red Hat in 1999 I'm sure gnome looking exactly like windows is just a big coincidence.
>>108498884bing it.

>>108497823> how ... looks like ESL detected. Protip: it's either "how x looks" or "what x looks like"
>>108497666Well satan, they were good on 4:3 screens distributing stuff to the 4 corners but in 16:9 they waste vertical space enough to get slightly annoying. Nowadays if i use Mate i set it either in unity style or with a monobar.
>>108499158>they were good on 4:3 screensno they weren't. anyone ever with a top and bottom bar was a faggot. anyone with a top bar was a faggot. period end of story. your shit's retarded. the macintosh OS actually merges the top bar with the program you're using. linux does not, it's COPE and faggotry for people. It might 'look nice' when you have nothing open, but functionally it's ass and that's why everyone with a brain uses Linux Mint Cinnamon instead of Ubuntu>but Arch or Debian or Fedoraoh FUCK OFF I'm being serious and you're just hard trolling
>>108499179Jhc calm down faggot
>>108498926but it doesn't look like windows, grandpa
>>108499432yeah doesn't look like windows at all huh
>>108497666uh-oh,i don't get where are you trying to go with this, satan. so just fuck off, satan.
Now that the dust has settled, was this a step in the wrong or right direction?
