if i use protonvpn to browse internet, game, videos, email etc... and at same time someone using the same protonvpn IP commits a crime. isn't using a vpn basically worse than not using a vpn at all since my IP would be tied to my email and I could get easily falsely accused?

>it is him your honor, it was the same IP as the one that can be identified as being used by mr.anon

Nope, unless you live in an country with incompetent police force or a country that wants you in jail that all cost, your traffic becomes noise helping out the criminal.

An IP can't be used to identify a person these days, you need to get proof from the ISP and do digital forensics.

Yes. Only criminals care about privacy, as long as you're not doing anything illegal, there's nothing to worry about. Richard Golden was using a VPN and still got arrested by Chitwood.

It's the same with CGNAT. Your ISP doesn't only log your IP, it also logs every port you use. If you commit a crime they check the port, they ask your ISP who was using that port, and they find you. Likewise, ProtonVPN doesn't only log the IPs you use, it also logs the ports, so if you commit a crime you can be identified.

You just buy a residential proxy and get some sucker blamed instead.

I use proton. Been a mail user for a while because you don't have to put cell phone in. When my ISP started bitching at me about piracy I used their VPN. It's fine. I'm not actually a criminal outside of downloading movies so I don't give a fuck if they narc on pedos and terrorists.

I think it's like ISP providing shared IP (mobile and shitty residential), there's a port per IP user. There was a case in my country in which a guy got busted for sharing 'P, turned out his neighbor had the same IP and was the real culprit, the ISP didn't even care to check the port and just gave law enforcement the first identity on the list.
