I looked into using SBCs for a diy nas/jellyfin box, and as an emulation console with batocera but in both cases it just made more sense to use a mini x86 pc.

I pull down my pants and I shit where I stand.

Good morning saar.
>>
>>108509745
It was made for real time, not running Linux on it.
Real ones are there, crazy popular, you can order a bucket of them from chinese commies, like something from espressif, you can try one of the last species of dying euro high tech - teh stm32. Or maybe something from texas instruments.

what do you even do with one of those? i have yet to find a purpose for one when you could instead virtualize it on your already existing home server

its not dying, its still cheap.. just instead of 8GB ram you will have to buy 1GB ram
>>
They have lots of industrial consumers now.
They won't blink an eye at $300.

>x86 minicomputer
There are x86 sbcs too
>>

>the buying hobby is dying
yes, that's a side effective of shortages
>>
>>108509880
It can be a very low power comsuption homeserver for tasks that don't require much computing power
Not scamberry pis of course, also shit like lattepanda SBCs has 16gigs of ddr5 ram for 200 bucks still so there's that too
>>
>>108509784
A minipc uses more power.
>>
>>108510176
you can buy a whole shitty laptop for $300
a current model Pi used to be $30

Not enough to worry about.
A singular HDD consumes more power.

I mean, after you buy one, use it to emulate then use it to run a webserver or kubernetes, what else is there to do?

Raspberry Pi is not the only SBC on the market. It is the most overhyped and overrated one though.

BeagleBone exists. Pine64 exists. Chink clones like BananaPi exist. The core issue is that people misuse these SBC's as they're meant to act as an Arduino with a full ARM PC integrated into it.

Do you ever use the GPIO on your SBC's? No? It means you've bought into the Pi meme and what you truly want is one of those second-hand business SFF PC's from Dell, Lenovo or HP. They give you a much, much better bang for the buck, they're x86 based meaning you can install your bog standard Windows and Linux distros on it, and it will give you way more computing power for whatever the fuck it is you wanted to do with a small PC.
>>
>>108509745
Just get a BC 250 lol
>>
>>108510268
Am i schizo or does he actually kinda look like cobson basedjak?
>>
>SBC
Meh, I am more of a fan of mini PCs. Unless I am doing corporate embedded work I find that SBC are too low power to do much useful. Mini PC are better for when you want to repurpose the project.
>>
>nooo not my memeware!
>>
>>108510633
I like a minipc, but a minipc isn't a pi that I can put a ups hat and a sound card on. I don't need anything fast. It just needs to be able to be a router if I need it, and download an iso if everything goes wrong on my other computers. The clones aren't a raspberry pi with raspios 64 or 64 lite.
>>
>>108510691
>but a minipc isn't a pi that I can put a ups hat
laptop comes with one
>and a sound card on.
what minipc doesn't already have a sound card or at the very least an usb port for a sound card
>>
>>108510721
The sound card on my pi can listen to my entire apartment from one room.
>>
People will still buy 16GB model just to run Pi Hole.
>>
>>108510721
Also, my primary pi mainly feeds my vlan with wifi from my router, but if I were in public with the ups hat, I could use it as a condom, and just unbridge that ethernet device.
>>
chink mini PCs killed SBC
>>
>>108510633
It also uses way more electricity than a pi.
>>
>>108510889
8W idle vs <1W idle is still negligible on your electricity bills when running it 24/7. Especially if you daily a full-size rig that pulls way more on idle, not to mention shit like your fridge.
>>
>>108509745
pi died when they were bought
didn't he report on that?
>>
>>108510276
>Rip out battery
>>
>>108510913
The way electric rates are going, and the fact these are meant to run concurrently with your other devices? Saving extra watts is ideal.
>>

I'm sorry, I never meant to bother a retarded person. I will move along now. Bye.
>>
>>108511257
It's not, but it's getting there. They are adding just enough TOPs to neural processing units so that you would kill a person without looking.

Progress.

rockchip got spooked when russians started putting rk3588 boards in missiles.

>>
>>108509745
that shit was dying ever since Raspberry Pis were over $30.00 USD
>>
>>108510685
Ayyware best ware.
>>
they started as extremely low end cheap pcs on a board
then emulationfags wanted to use them to play their video games
now they're mid laptops on a board and you pay out the ass for the form factor
>>
>>108511651
I wouldn't say it was emulation, more they wanted to make an affordable desktop capable computer that can use modern Internet.
They got pretty close with the Pi5 I guess.

We should bring back NanoITX and PicoITX as standard form factors tho.
>>
was that sbc stuff ever relevant? never had one never used one.
>>
>>108511672
What's wrong with mini-ITX? It can fit a lot of stuff, basically same as your IBM PC.
You want it desktop or in your pocket?

About 100x the volume of a Pi and 10x that of a mini PC. Mini-ITX is my desktop.
