today was one of the weirdest encounters i’ve had at work

i’m a supervisor at a company, and one of the employees i’ve been overseeing for about 4 months uses ubuntu on his work laptop. it was always a bit inconvenient since everyone else uses macs (company provided), so we’d have to deal with flash drives or uploads instead of just airdrop, but whatever — he got his work done so i didn’t care

until today

i gave him something urgent to finish. came back after an hour and asked if he was done. he says he’s “having issues with his OS”

we’re on a tight deadline, so i offer him a spare dell latitude to just get it done quickly

this guy straight up refuses and says “i don’t use this trash”

at that point i don’t even care, i just tell him we need to finish the task NOW. he takes the laptop… and instead of doing the work, he starts trying to install ubuntu on it

that’s when i lost it. like actually what are you doing? you’re on the clock, we’re behind, and you’re reinstalling your favorite OS instead of doing your job

i call him out for being childish and refusing to use a perfectly working machine just because it’s windows

his response?
“i don’t want to work for this company anymore”

and he just leaves. quits on the spot

imagine being broke and quitting your job because you refuse to use windows for a couple hours

the guy was always kinda paranoid and weird, but this was next level

linux users will really choose their OS over paying rent
>>
I’ve walked away from jobs for less. Sticking around a job you don’t vibe with is for old heads.
>>
>>108519603
let me guess, mid 20s at most? i’ve worked with a few guys like that and they all act the same, super stubborn about their setup even when it makes no sense in a work environment
>>
>>108519656
from what i’ve heard, his mom is sick and he actually needs the money, which makes this even worse. quitting your job just because you had to use windows for a bit is honestly one of the most immature decisions you can make
>>
>>108519603
It's a cool story, but hard to believe. You should've said it was debian and he refused to use non-free firmware or smth.
>>
>>108519691
I genuinely don’t blame you. I’ve never witnessed anyone do that before.
>>
>>108519603
The lintard cult is certainly real, but how come in your story you switched from "everyone uses macs" to having the spare Lenovo around?
>>
>>108519668
To be honest, I don’t believe it’s about age. I’ve met many employees in their early to mid 20s, and they are quite mature.
>>
>>108519701
Right. So you are looking for him here or smth? I imagine he would post here regularly.
>>
>>108519720
you have to go to registration to claim your macbook so they can assign it under your employee name and number. not everyone does it immediately, and we still have a bunch of spare dell/windows laptops around the office for situations like this
>>
>>108519603
anon nobody uses whatever "airdrop" is at work
do you even have a job?
>>
>>108519722
No just wanted to share the story
>>
>>108519749
yeah we do, it’s literally built into macOS. when most of the office is on macbooks it’s the fastest way to move files locally without messing with drives or uploads. not every workplace is stuck emailing zip files back and forth
>>
>>108519765
anon.. i just told you that nobody uses "airdrop" at work. nobody "emails zip files" either.
>without messing with drives or uploads
have you ever even had a job?? you sound unemployed desu.
>>
>>108519770
You have no idea how bad zoomers in the workplace truly are (OP included)
>>
>>108519770
it’s not that deep. in a mac based office people use airdrop for quick file transfers, and internal shares for everything else. different environments use different tools, not everyone’s workflow is the same as yours
>>
>>108519785
>mac based office
doesn't exist
>people use airdrop for quick file transfers, and internal shares for everything else
no they don't
>this story
never happened
you are unemployed
>>
>>108519776
i didn’t make the rules, that’s just how the company operates
>>
>>108519798
sure, whatever helps you sleep at night, buddy
>>
>>108519770
idk what you’re on about, we too have mostly macbooks at work and people use airdrop for quick stuff all the time. it’s not some crazy concept

No, the graphical user interface is the primary source of frustration in computing. I don't blame him. The last time I was forced to use a gui at work led to me dissociating while driving down the highway, and then in the field while taking concrete samples. Windows wasn't directly related to the problem, I'm not actually sure what ever was going on. I got arrested before I could make it to the doctor.

The techs at company won't even let you write scripts to automate anything. They force you to press the tab key and click buttons and do things slower, even when there is no good reason to subject yourself to it.
>>
>>108519603
Reliance on the gui has basically destroyed all of white-collar. Turned them all into unthinking simpletons, relying on software infrastructure that exists only to mentally abuse them for money. Fitting. The wicked have a tendency to fall into their own traps. Chickens eventually come home to roost. This is enshittification. It only gets worse as long as the boss is more conceited than you.

Time is money. You get what you pay for.
Microsoft's office. You should get a degree so you can configure enterprise windows software for a company, bro. It'll work out. You won't be contributing to a giant disaster when you do it, and all of the bullcrap you tolerate on the way totally wont affect you mentally or spiritually. It was just made by a bunch of grifting devil worshipers. Nothing to worry about.

unless you're doing some "hello world" tier work, giving somebody a completely fresh machine and telling them to get their dev environment set up from scratch while they've got some urgent "clock is ticking" request on the line is kind of a bitch move. if he had back ups or something, then taking five minutes to install ubuntu may have unironically been faster than trying to figure out how to set everything up on a different OS.

honestly you sound like a non-technical person who thinks all he needed to do was open notepad and write two lines. the reverse could have just as easily happened with some mac bug fucking over every one of your workers except for him.

>b-but mac is stable that could never happen

literally happened at my last job, management required everyone to keep their OS as up to date as possible and one day there was an issue that broke docker for nearly the entire dev team
>>
So publically traded companies are basically goy debt slaves. You go into debt slavery while jews make bets on your ability to pay the debt. Meanwhile, our country's entire financial system is built around this obvious scam. The entire country, who knew better because they've been repeatedly told better by all of the media they worship multiple times in order to absolve the perpetrators of karmic retribution. Yet, they all do it. Every time. Every psyop. They never pick up on just how specifically their stupidity is being targeted because they have some idol they worship, some object of fascination ruling their life or wordview in whatever context that it is exploited. Asking CEO's not to act like CEO's is a fools endeavor. That's the problem. Inertia, like the words of yuri bezmanov. Microsoft windows represents a colossal failure on the part of the American body politic to adapt, control for, and excise subversive elements. It's like a slower-burning litmus test in comparison to covid.
>>
>>108519603
>i gave him something urgent to finish. came back after an hour and asked if he was done

so you came up to some poor sap on a friday afternoon and said "clear your schedule, i need you to take care of this immediately. you have an hour"? you sound like an asshole micro manager, maybe be better at planning and prioritizing so you don't piss your employees off like this
>>
>>108519798
You're a stupid cretin and you smell like shit. No wonder your mom hates you and wishes she'd gotten an abortion. It's not possible yet for us to fix retardation so I won't fault you there, but you could stop being a giant faggot anytime. At least be just retarded instead of a giant retarded faggot like you are now.
>>
>>108521125
funny you call me “non-technical” when the Dell i offered him was fully set up with all company configs and dev tools ready to go.

this wasn’t a “fresh machine” he had to configure from scratch he just needed to move some files and run a pre existing script. any competent dev could’ve finished it in 20 minutes.

refusing a 100% ready Windows laptop in the middle of a deadline just to install ubuntu from scratch isn’t technical, it’s childish.
>>
>>108519785
no him, but any place i've worked in the past 10 years uses slack or teams and that shit already has easy shit built in to share files. like just drag the shit to the chat box and hit enter, idk why you'd bother with air drop over that. been in mac shops and we did the same. so yeah, this kinda feels like a fake detail added to make it seem like there was "friction" around the linux coworker
>>
>>108521103
fine, glad he moved on and away from that shithole
>>
>>108521149
nah, it wasn’t some random Friday ambush. this was a genuinely urgent task that had to be done immediately deadline was ticking and it affected other teams too. i offered a fully working laptop to make it faster, literally everything ready to go.

the problem wasn’t the timing, it was him refusing a 100% functional machine just because it was Windows. that’s not poor planning, that’s choosing to sabotage your own work for personal preference.
>>
>>108521184
Yeah, good. Introduce urgency.
>>
>>108520819
> How can you never see people using Macs at work?
If you never show up at work, 'cause you're unemployed, you would in fact never see that.
>>
>>108521164
well now i know you're non technical or this is just a bullshit story if you think he wouldn't need IT to set him up his own user profile, apply new SSH keys, etc. how is he gonna log into version control if his passwords are all on his bricked linux distro? don't tell me this random request was somehow so urgent that it was ok for him to just login as whichever poor fucker used to use the windows laptop? but also he was apparently the only person the team who could do it?
>>
All the people today with, like, good jobs are all the people that were telling me that mass manipulation and moral decay weren't real when I was in high school. Literal goy cattle. They are actively in the process of shoving their heads further up their asses. They think coming out of the other side is a good way to see daylight.
>>
>>108521189
urgent in the sense that our work was a blocker for other teams. if we didn’t finish on time, it would’ve held up multiple projects, not just some arbitrary task for me.
>>
>>108521212
It'll be like Willie Coyote being suspended in mid-air before he realized he ran of a cliff, but at least they woke up. They finally realized it.
>>
>>108521218
Really? When it was ticking did it have a big red clock duct-taped to a silver briefcase? That would make it even more urgent?
>>
>>108521046
Damn. See you on the day you kill yourself because you don't want to use Windows.
>>
Lepers coiled 'neath the trees,
Tired men in bewildered soliloquys.
>>
>>108521164
if your workplace uses mac then how come the backup machine you have is windows and not a macbook? and how can it possibly have _ALL_ tools, upgraded, when its a backup machine? do you keep your backup machines updated instead of doing actual work?

if this was so urgent, then why not delegate it to someone else the moment he told u he had issues? if he suddenly passed out would u just say "hey buddy wake up time to deliver"?

worst fucking larp of the month
>>
>>108521203

>>108521001

>>108521263
>No, the graphical user interface is the primary source of frustration in computing.
This is a fact, because it's a trade-off. There is a time and a place for gui. There are even intuitive guis. The vast majority of them should never have been created. People can tell themselves that their lives in the world and the cares and conceits within it somehow don't leave impressions on their idiotic minds. The results are in. Were are all slaves, now. The tyrants will never hang.
>>
>>108521263
Windows is just one problem out of many. One cut out of the ten thousand. All cuts are lacerations, though. You should feel it when you get one. Everyone saw this coming and ignored it. Remember that. Like Willie Coyote. Finding daylight on the other side of his asshole.
>>
>>108521253
the macs are assigned through registration, we don’t get spares for backup. the Dell was upgraded and ready because that’s IT’s job to maintain. and no, i couldn’t just delegate it to someone else it was his task, and he was the one familiar with it.

I can literally show you on the back of a dollar bill why the great seal on the dollar bill represents a mass murder pact. Put a microscope over the soft paper. Look at the bodies on the ground, and the pyramid built on top of them. Satan, the prince of the power of the air, is depicted as a dragon in the clouds to the right side, the left hand of God. On the left side, the right hand of god, are the 33 steps, or degrees, of Freemasonry. There is a "bush" to the bottom right, that upon closer inspection is an oathsworn hand, with a scar made by a dagger, which is sitting in the "grass" (bones protruding from the bodies) just ever so slightly down and to the left. Novus Ordo Seclorum, the separation of church and state. Secularism is literally just witchcraft, and the Dollar's great seal rubs this in your face. Bill Gates frequented the Island where they sacrificed children to the god of the 6 pointed star on the Dollar.

Each abstraction layer removes some level of detail, erases it and as a result it can not be perceived from the perspective of that model.
>>108521291
Therefore, by introducing several abstraction layers, and then conditioning a populace to only ever interface with the system from the perspective of that constructed, artificial model, you are training them to operate and perceive the world around them through that particular lens. Through slight of hand, you are able to entirely deprive them of even the knowledge that those details which were abstracted over even exist in the first place. They truly belive that this abstraction/model is reality itself, strange as it sounds it is true. This system self-reinforces through several mechanisms once the indoctrination is embedded deeply enough. An entire society of men and women who believe the map IS the territory, who belive the drawing IS the "real world".

>>108521492
Man is corporate. They are to be the body of Christ. Brothers and sisters. At no time in history could people so blithely get away with being so naiive, but you would have been faced with this much closer throughout your daily life, in the past, as everything that the people do to sell you something is all the same things children do to lie, or that criminals do to marks. They are opportunistic predators, and you were never safe from them. It is perhaps a good mark on you to not be aware of such things, but we all go to hell without God, and that's where they're trying to trick us to. They can't just kill whoever they want in wars or invade other countries because of MAD, so that leaves psychological warfare, and an effective form of that is to get a people to disregard their conscience, the confessor of the tragedies in man, lurking in the core of us all. Like is in that satanic song I mentioned. You show them something sick, and you make them see something in it, and want something out of it, and then they're all complicit. They're conscience knew better and they ignored it. They showed their conscience the truth. They always do it. It's more than just sales and marketing. It's black magic.
>>
>>108521486
I aggree, generally, but am not an anti-gui absolutist. I just think that the primary means of interfacing with all of the computery parts of your computer should be a shell, unless there is a good reason to have a gui instead, which implies that there is a certain, measurable and comparable improvement over using a gui instead. How different things could have been if we were all taught the basics of the command line in high school, and used, like, awk and gnuplot instead of excel.
