Johnny 5 is the ideal robot design. Why are they trying to make them bipedal. Johnny 5 is what happens when someone designs a robot with at least a passing acquaintance with reality. Low center of gravity, treads, expressive sensor mast, useful arms, stable platform. He looks like he could actually survive a curb. Humans are a terrible engineering template for most robot tasks.

They focus on narrow abilities and then have to manually switch between different models to get those "impressive" results for the camera. The real thing roboticist want is a unified model that can do everything seamlessly and not just small clips of doing one small repeated task that are unstable.
