/g/ anons who have been here for more than 10 years and still use Windows: why?
>>108522353non sequitur
>>108522353It just works
>>108522353it just works. linux is usable nowadays, but if you’re capable of tweaking linux into behaving properly you’re also capable of tweaking winblows into not being an ad-ridden pile of trash, but with 80% less effortway more software availablebetter hardware support, better drivers
>>108522353Because Windows on the desktop is much more usable than any Linux distribution.Linux makes more sense for the server.
>>108522353I spent years fiddling with pretty much every Linux distro, DE, and WM you could imagine, and always found some unresolvable shortcoming or other annoyance. I finally decided I was going to tolerate those shortcomings and switched to Arch + KDE full time for a couple of years, but then the Plasma 5 -> 6 update was a complete dumpster fire. Used Kubuntu for about a year, then switched to W11 IoT LTSC and it's been mostly fine. That said, nearly every issue I had with Plasma 6 has been resolved (except one or two), so I will probably make the switch back soon.

>>108522353Why bother spending dozens of hours learning a new os when i can debloat windows in 30 minutes?Wayland doesn’t even let you overclock a gpu, libreoffice doesn’t even support tables, there is nothing even remotely as good as autohotkey (and it flat out doesn’t work on wayland anyway because lol use case for automation??). Things like that.
>>108522353I'm sure you're familiar with the argument that terraforming Mars to escape some 20th-century idea of an environmental apocalypse is dumb because if you have the technology and resources to turn Mars into Earth you also have the ability to turn Earth back into Earth, a lot easier. It's like that. WPD+O&O10. Don't make your life harder than it has to be, it doesn't need the help.
>>108522494no jews on mars
>>108522353It just works despite what people who must be very special individuals say. I used linux in the 90s and early 2000s when I had time to fiddle around and didn't yet work in the industry. Times change.
>>108522353I live in a country where 99% of the population uses a messenger with zero linux support. No native app, no web client. Even with Wine, the experience is absolute dogshit. Notifications are broken and it's unstable as fuck.
Also tried using ubuntu on my work laptop but had several problems that I just couldn't solve in the time I had available. The issues included bluetooth being spotty (tbf, this also happens sometimes on windows), the webcam was a shitshow (integrated dell, or logitech usb, both were shit or completely not working), the 5g mobile wwan card didn't work for shit, and also trying to interface with the mostly MS corpo-world was a horror show. VPN implementation was absolute shit when using palo alto with entra id saml auth. It wasn't comfy I can tell you that. Some of that is because of how entrenched MS is, some just because there are STILL hardware incompatibility issues after all these years.

Windows works best for daily driving.Mac is best for graphic design work.Linux is best for specialised tasks.
>>108522714Why not just run Kakao in a virtual machine if want to use Linux then Kim?
Everything is made for it. Consumer and industrial.I need to install a program to configure and tune my radar detector? Windows. A niche web bot program? Oh looks like that's also windows. How about that back up, restore utility and firmware writing utility for the equipment I work on? Windows. The program, hardware, and drivers to work on my old efi ducati? All designed around that got dang ol NT kernel.Router/firewall? Storage server? Webserver? Hypervisor? Single board computer with exposed I/O? *nix/BSD all day. Some(productive) people can do all they need to on a funky unix desktop, and that's pretty cool, but not me, and not most.
>>108522755Imagine running a whole ass VM or Waydroid just for one fucking chat app. The resource overhead is insane compared to native, and it's never as stable. I’m not wasting 4GB of RAM and CPU cycles 24/7 just to get a notification.
>>108522439there's a good reason stable distros don't jump to new versions of kde and similar software straight away. should have just kept kde5 until 6 stabilised
>>108522773no android version?you can get notifications from android on your desktop with kde connect, and view/control the phone in a window with scrcpy
>>108522353Windows 10 User here. It's a horrible, buggy, slow, quirky os, but it's BY FAAAAAAAAAAR the best OS available
NT strong.
counterpoint: how are you so poor that you can only have one computer with one os
>>108522800eventually after using linux long enough i came to understand that windows isn't more usable or user friendly, it's just more familiar. at this point i now find linux more familiar, i've used both for a similar amount of time (around 20 years each with several years overlap as i used both).
>>108522419It's probably very hardware dependent but I have had less issue setting up Linux than removing all windows bloat or whatever, even when using dedicated windows "fixing" tools. There are so many things to change there. But fair point.
>>108522831I use all OSes on a daily basis, my point still stands.
>>108522773You'd think koreans would have more than 4GB of RAM seeing as it's all made there.
>>108522353Windows supports my sexuality (I am a homosexual) so I use what supports my identity. A homosexual identity.
>>108522419Debloating windows 10 broke wsl for me
Bad luck with Linux support on laptops - graphics glitches, screen goes black, failing to wake up from sleep (laptop sucks when you cant close the lid). Two laptops in row the same.also sometimes have to cross-compile some software for Windows. It's always nice to have a real machine to test it on than just trusting Wine.On dev machine at work I can just use Linux, thankfully.
