Why havent you taken the split keyboard pill yet /g/? Its scientifically proven to help with multiple problems and has no learning curve if you know touch typing
>>
Too expensive for what it is.
Not worth it.
I can use my normal keyboard all day with no issues already.

I am learning my Voyager for 5 months now and it is an endless pain in the ass to remember and execute fastly all fucking combinations spreaded between 3 different layers. And it is after pain in the ass of making and adjusting these layers usable for my not really hardcore coding needs. Oh, and it is only for one of the languages I use on my keyboard, most likely when I start to learn second one, more adjustments will be needed.

I still think that is a good thing to have and use, but learning curve is very steep and I so far I retreat to 80% layout keyboard every time I need to do real things and can't mess around trying to guess key

I have a helix but between my cheap chink iron and my lack of skill it keeps developing cracks in the solder which make it double press and then I have to resolder.
I really do miss having a macro layer and thumb buttons.

>>108524111
I don't know how you have that problem.
Although I did set my own mod layer to what was intuitive for myself.

I already use an ergodox. I'm hoping to get a Dygma Defy someday but I'm too poor so it's going to be a long time until I get it.
>>
I made my own Silakka54 clone. Somehow splits worked for me from day 1, I was back at my old letter typing speed in about 3 days and layers didn't take that long either. They probably just aren't for everyone.

They cost ridiculously more than a membrane keyboard and still significantly more than a good mechanical keyboard and no matter which of those you prefer it isn't worth the markup.

I got a mechanical split, wireless, rechargable, easy to use and live updating programming UI all for $75. the quality is unironically nice too. based chinks

If I get 2 normal keyboards, cut them in two with wiring preserved and plug them both in, I would get the same thing. One controller for each half of the keyboard.
And it's probably going to be cheaper, am I right?
>>
>>108523125
I got the cheap mechanical keyboard. The only downside is the clicky noise (which I dont mind) and the fact that I have replaced some switches via basic soldering. 30 euros and no regrets lol

The split keyboard market sucks. Very few are made with regular layouts and a sensible number of keys. And I'm not even talking about OP level faggotry. Just garden variety faggotry such as having no F keys or no Ins/Del/Home/End/PgUp/PgDown block. It always has to be some faggy 14.88% layout with a whole bunch of common keys hidden behind Fn. I don't need a Num block but I damn well want all the other fucking keys present as physical fucking keys and in the expected fucking location. But that's not possible because the faggots who make "ergonomic" keyboards love to men-struate over placing keys in weird and unexpected places or omitting them entirely.

The last good split keyboard was the Fujitsu-Siemens KBPC-E and it's been EOL for a long time. And it sucked as well because it was hinged rather than having a between halves.

Looks just like a kinesis freestyle, which is cheap and available

You don't need them unless you're a 40-year-old accountant with no computer skills.
>>
>>108523125
>40% layout
Hipster shit with way too few keys.

>wavy standard keyboard
Layout's as it should be (fuck ANSI Enter, though) but it don't come apart.

This right there is why hipster keyboards suck. Do you get off on pain or something? Do you really not see anything wrong with the contortions you are putting yourself through?

>>108526324
>Nonstandard keys galore
The kind of faggot who designs a keyboard like that needs to die in a fire.

>>108526706
>if you have some unique way of doing things you're a tranny
Can we maybe not overdo the "unique" bit and have a NORMAL FUCKING SET OF KEYS?

>>108526870
Yep. Usually the circuit board is printed on a transparent sheet of plastic so basically you remove the unused half's case from both sides and duct tape the circuit board to the bottom.

Nobody is taking your (((normal))) office-goy-cattle keyboards from you, sweetie :)
>>
>>108527013
Not quite. The kinesis has the Home/End/Ins/Del/PgUp/PgDown in a nonstandard locaction because apparently it is not permitted to build an "ergonomic" keyboard without hipstering at least some keys to where they don't belong.

You're god damn genius. Listen, you looking for a business partner rn? How about a little side-hustle?
We make 10k of these, shill it reddit to manchildren and make a fortune.

But I haven't figured out what to do the discared halves of the keyboards. Do we paint them and sell as exclusive repleceable keycaps?

If there was one with 45g Topre switches I would buy it in a heartbeat.
But there isn't, so while I desire the split, I can live without a split easier than I can live without my Good Feeling of Oneness With Cup Rubber
