No idea why people use Debian or Arch when this exists. If you want some rolling stuff use Flatpak/Snap/Pacstall/git

what do you think Ubuntu is?

hint: it's also Debian
>>
>>108524858
why would anyone use ubuntu server when debian exists?

sorry, but i dont want to deal with snaps, gnome and canonical crap.
>>
>>108524965
The only way to get < 2.5 year feature updates on Debian is to use Debian Testing which is a crapshoot
>>
How does this corposlop differ from Windows Server?
>>
>>108524990
why would you need bleeding edge software on a server?
>>
>>108524858
Because Ubuntu is a desktop distro (and not even a good one at that) and servers want max stability. Debian being old or "boring" makes it ideal for a server.
>>
>>108525010
If you're gonna run corposlop might as well pick one that works. Even microslop themselves don't use wangblows server.
>>
>>108524858
rust-infected crap.
>>
>>108525024
It was annoying not having qbittorrent 5.0 my seedbox so I used fedora
>>
>>108525043
Ubuntu is on par with Fedora for desktops. Fedora technically may be a little better. There really aren't any other options unless you run Arch like a loser.
>>
>>108524858
I use ubuntu desktop and i prefer flatpak over snap, but ubuntu enforces snap. I also really like gnome. I don't get gnome hate.
I need ubuntu minus snapcraft.
>>
>>108525158
>I don't get gnome hate
Because you're using ubuntu gnome (which is actually pretty great). Give Debian a test drive and behold the retarded cluster fuck that the vanilla gnome is all about.
>>
>>108525205
>Give Debian a test drive
I have and it's horrible out of the box if your personal computer is a laptop that uses any wireless technology and plays any media or uses a gpu.
>>
>>108524858
>he doesn't know about Ubuntu Pro or packages being intentionally unmaintained unless you register or pay for it.
dumb fuck.
>>
>>108525253
>image of ubuntu server
>talks about wireless
what?
>>
>>108525253
I was only talking about vanilla gnome, as you were asking "why the hate".
>>
>>108525010
apples and oranges.
Windows Server isn't really comparable. It's a totally different userland and admin experience.
>>
>>108525158
>I need ubuntu minus snapcraft.
then use Fedora? GNOME technically has its own distro too.
>>
>>108525301
>then use Fedora? GNOME technically has its own distro too.
Yeah for testing gnome.
>>
>>108525107
anon you installed an entire different operating system because you needed one specific application?
>>
>>108524858
>rust cancer
no
>>
>>108524858
>shows snaps down your throat
no thank you
>>
>>108525503
Well yes but to be fair its just a fedora container
>>
>>108526211
Ubuntu installs zero Snaps by default. Its only annoying part is having no Firefox or Thunderbird in the repos, which Debian admittedly has, the solution is to add Mozilla's repo.
>>
>>108524858
because it's by far the most bugged distro out there, it's straight up banned world-wide at my top500 company because of it, debian on the other hand is "fine" even if discouraged in favor of rhel clones or rhel directly which are actually stable and not "maintained" by mutilated freaks like debian.
>>
>>108524858
>instead of getting desktop bloat I can get server bloat on my desktop PC
waow what a steal
>>
>>108525055
Rust is in the linux kernel/userland and in the windows kernel today. Unless you're using an old OS or BSD (I repeat myself), you're using rust compiled software.
>>
>>108529252
Elaborate on your bad experience with Ubuntu, I hear critiques from ricers but rarely from a professional perspective.
>>
>>108529441
gnome-disk is bugged in ubuntu 20.04-24.04, they never fixed it and it can crash while resizing a big partition
plymouth crashes a lot especially on 20.04
nautilus has "infinite windows" issue when you browse a mounted SMB folder mounted with certain options (don't have them on my mind right now) and it creates an infinity of error windows if the folder is unmounted while you're browsing it
in gdm 20.04-24.04 (I can reproduce it on a fully updated system consistently on certain hardware) if you move your mouse after your typed your password it will make gnome-session crashes
NetworkManager struggles ti keep track of plugged in devices if you have a nic with multiple rj45 ports and after some time will tell you that oyu don't have network access
isc-dhcp-server isn't refreshed when you plug in new hardware, you have to restart it then unplug the cable and wait around 10 seconds, sometimes it never works and you have to reboot
locales don't apply correclty everywhere, if you swtich from non-english to english you have basically 90% chances to have a mix of english/non-english symbols, date format, etc.
they enable weird options in linux (don't have them in midn)
their initramfs is also very weird and can hang forever for no reason
piss-poor btrfs support most likely because they don't use lts kernel and fail miserably at backporting patches
if you uninstall the software-update package you can't upgrade to a newer version
apt ignores auto-update settings sometimes, I've never managed to debug this issue

debian has ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THESE ISSUES (it has it fair share of issues like broken intel gpu driver or xvnc)

>inb4 (you) issues, works on my machine
most of these issues are known and can be reproduced reliably on any hardware, I know I can, canonical just does not care, they're pushing for their ubuntu pro subscription by withholding security and some bugfixes so fuck them, this retarded company can't die soon enough
>>
>>108529510 (You)
>(it has it fair share of issues like broken intel gpu driver or xvnc)
xrdp
my bad
also some apt udpate can break the bootloader forcing you to fix it with chroot from a live usb or something, I've done it multiple time over 4 years.
the ban is very recent so we still have some ubuntu machines around.
