if you didn't have a internet connection, what would you do all day?

could you even do it? don't you need internet for banking stuff, medical stuff, work, etc?

i spend like 15 hours per day sitting on my computer, watching youtube videos, browsing 4chan, researching some random self-improvement thing that i then don't really implement into my life, etc.

i've tried to figure out whether I could get rid of it, or severely limit access. maybe whitelist .gov and .org websites, my bank, my medical portal... IDK.

this is especially important for porn. I'm so sick of it and it's kind of impossible to avoid since you "need" an internet connection, and you can literally just go onto google images for porn, or an AI image gen/chatbot site, or whatever. Are you not going to put google images on your whitelist, you know what i mean? how do you avoid this stuff anymore?

I had all my porn downloaded and sorted properly on my computer. I also have enough books, movie and games to last until internet come up too. Since so many torrent sites (rip RABG) died over the years, I just made hoarding a habit.

i'm pretty sure it's literally impossible to have a life without daily internet access.

Play video games? Read books? Go outside? None of these options are coming to mind?
>could you even do it? don't you need internet for banking stuff, medical stuff, work, etc?
In the ancient times, people used to go to the bank or to the doctor's office for these sorts of things.

How does your home internet connection get used for banking? Banks are closed during the time you're at home.

You can still do anything that doesn't require a person.

is there actual value to even having internet access or is it a net negative? Because yes, you probably could avoid it with stuff like

>driving to the bank
>having a GPS unit in your car
>calling to make medical appointments, asking for paper test results etc

but there's a lot of random little things like
>buying stuff--there are zero good brick&mortar stores anymore unless you live in a major metro area
>finding reviews for literally anything, from products to restaurants to doctors
>researching something you want to learn about--libraries suck now and you can't use the internet to buy a book or download a PDF so wtf?
>booking flights

and a lot of people are just online now. like there's a huge chunk of the younger generations that basically live online. they don't go out to socialize. they socialize on the internet, whether that's discord or omegle or 4chan. (not that you want to meet those people though lol)

also there are no dumbphones anymore. every single phone you can buy now is a smartphone with high speed internet capabilities and a relatively fast chip.

I don't know if I should be impressed or concerned for you.

> if you didn't have a internet connection

But I do have internet connection

I used to have your mindset. If I could just get some setup that would block me from distractions I could be productive. I'd waste countless hours setting up some complex website/internet blocking configuration, but as soon as I wanted to watch porn or YouTube I would instantly disable it in the fastest way possible and then remember how to do that. It became reflexive muscle memory to disable my blocking config to the point where it became completely useless. The harsh reality, that I didn't want to admit, is that you do need to just use a computer without getting distracted. You don't need to white knuckle "will power" (I even found this detrimental) but you need to reframe your use of technology towards something that can be used mostly for important tasks rather than pure entertainment. You can set up simple ways to increase "friction" between yourself and your bad habits, but they cannot be the primary solution or what you rely upon. For example, I moved off Windows 11 to Mint, but I have it dual booted and kept my games, online chat programs, etc on the Windows machine only. My Mint install is for school, work, financial and medical portals, reading books, programming, and other uses of tech that are more important than video games. But, I'm on it right now posting in here and I do watch youtube on it as well. However, I'm able to not spend all day doing this anymore because, more important than the OS change, I have changed how I think about computer time and have also lost significant amounts of interest in YouTube content and this website (aka going on /tv/ all day) AAR. Based on your comment that you don't implement the self improvement content into your life, you should be able to realize that searching for a perfect porn blocking config is exactly the same: it gives the illusion of productive success but is in fact a giant crippling distraction from it.

>banking stuff, medical stuff
so far, where i live, all really critical stuff like that can still be done over the phone. even a dumb phone, as long as it can also receive OTP texts. additionally, govt departments don't really care about or use your email or phone number although they record it, they only really care about and use your address since they have faith in the custody of the USPS for communications. However, if I did not have a smart phone with internet access I could not unlock the door to my apartment. This is not a very common problem but it's getting commoner. Also I'm pretty sure all cars built since 2016ish are connected to the internet even if you're not paying for any of the "connected services" so.
>>108525573
>>finding reviews for literally anything
This is by far the biggest thing for me. Without that you only have whoever the fuck is near you in the phonebook and whatever you can get by word of mouth which if you need to see some specialist or have some rare problem, medical or otherwise, you'll live your whole life never finding. It happened all the time.
>>
>>108525652
Sorry this was too long and ur cooked ah zoomie brain aint gonna read it. Basically, "quitting the internet" is a fantasy solution that is yet another distraction to fixate on. You need to learn to deal with the possibility of distraction, with simple tech "friction points" as a small support to aid this.
>>
unironically you could solve the internet porn problem by whitelisting the big AI chatbots since they're basically internet search oracles that are strictly SFW. anything even remotely NSFW gets blocked

>>108525692
everyone here is eternally online solely because they have nothing going on in their lives. it's a chicken and egg problem.

to get a life you need to not be on the computer all day

to get off the computer you need to have a life

your local public library has a lot

and for the porn learn to be a master of your domain

getting rid of access is dumb since so many normal things require it now. a good blacklist/whitelist that is extremely annoying and time consuming to get rid of is probably all anybody needs right?
>>108525652
just make it so annoying that it's not worth disabling to look at porn over just using your imagination.

at least post a book or dvd cover or a soldering station next time

Depends on the context, but yes.
I'd read, fuck around with animals.
Maybe even write.
I'd probably feel bored for a day or two until I realigned, but no biggie, really.
