The AI companies still aren't charging anywhere near the cost of their service. They're still selling at a loss and they get away with it by continuing to burn investor money.
We won't see the actual prices until investment has mostly dried up, which could happen in 2 weeks or never.
It will be really funny once companies see the actual cost of using AI because I'm pretty confident it will be more expensive than writing code by hand in the long run.

I'm on Pro and the limit hasn't been a problem most of the time despite only using Opus at max effort. Either I'm lucky with the quota or Pranil is lying about running out in 20 minutes with Sonnet only "planning out a few things" (whatever that means).

Not really. Salaries are the highest recurring overhead for most companies. AI will allow companies to hire 1/100th of the current number of human coders. They will still need humans for QC but the monkey work is now automated. Just like in most manufacturing industries today.

The slopcode needs oversight, and even then it will hit a spaghetti critical mass where no one knows how it works, and nothing can be added without it breaking and you have to start from scratch. Even if ai can save money in the short term, it'll cost in the long term. That may be fine for webdev slop and other white collar jobs, but at some level something has to actually work.

If prices stayed exactly as they are now forever they might hypothetically be able to do that. When companies have to pay the real cost of all their API calls, the savings will be an order of magnitude less than they are now and it will be a more serious decision how much AI coding you really want to do.
Honestly I think local hosting on an enterprise level may become much more common as costs go up. Really the big winner looks to be Google who already has a good LLM and the infrastructure to run it without having to outsource. Companies that are dependent on Anthropic or OpenAI to conduct business on a fundamental level will have some very hard times coming.

>assuming people always understand the code they wrote
I work with two absolute retards who have no idea how to develop software. They blindly applied structures from stack overflow, the code is a fucking mess and their progress slowed down to a crawl. Now they use Claude to trudge through that shit and at least things are being done.
>>
>>108530797
Don't let them use fucking Claude under any circumstances. Train them instead.
>>
>>108530802
Not my call, HR and execs were stupid enough to hire them AND participate in the AI grift as a crutch.
Me, I'd just replace them. There are better SWEs by the millions out there without a job.

>>

>>108530817
That's the thing. With people you can train them, or fire them and hire white people. With ai you're stuck with the jeet tier forever.
>>
>>108529138
my company is basically measuring the work done in burnt tokens. I keep asking Cursor for things so basic it's embarrassing, but the counter needs to keep ticking. it's the first time me wasting company money makes my boss happy beyond belief.
>>
>>108529138
The primary concern with token-based systems is that users have no assurance whether they are being deceived by the AI provider or not.

A superior model would be for the user to clearly articulate their issue, and the AI would respond with a definitive price or quantity of tokens required to resolve it. If additional tokens are needed, the user would not incur further charges. Conversely, if the user attempts to exploit the system, they would face penalties in some form.
>>
>>108531312
>AI would respond with a definitive price or quantity of tokens required to resolve it
AI doesn't resolve any issues, so it's impossible.
>>
>>108529138
Retardation causes more overhead to correct for in AI models. Just like it's frustrating to get jeets to do a job properly. They just don't have the intelligence or culture.
>>
>>108531340
It does, and if it can't. It should refund the tokens.
>>
>>108531493
it literally doesn't. but with that aside, why would they bother to guarantee any results when retards pay up anyway? for them, it's about the looong journey, not destination.
>>
>>108531241
So burn more tokens. max out the allotted tokens every single day
>>
>>108531535
I am. my favorite way to burn tons of money is having Cursor to analyze massive log files, and search for problems. I think I will go far in this company.
>>
>>108530802
>train them
haha what decade did you crawl out of? on the job training hasn't been a thing since the mid 90s.
>>
>>108529138
sir, we realized we're giving individuals too much power. prices will go up until only businesses can afford AI coding. that keeps the power structure safe. you ARE using half of your 500k salary on tokens, right?
>>
>Trump cancels Billion dollar Pentagon contract

That money's gotta come from somewhere jeets
