/g/ anons who have been here for more than 10 years and still use unix-likes: why?
I can't deny how good that advert was and still is. Very well done, very simple.
Unixes have good ideas. Everything is a file. Ad hoc Composition of processes using pipes. Windows is focused on the wrong founding abstraction. Not everything is a file. Pipes exist in PowerShell but the engineer who made PowerShell nearly got fired for making PowerShell. Microsoft organization is run by pajeets, and pajeets are bad at abstractions infrastructure, safety etc. They can adopt a prescribed infrastructure like railways or AWS but they cannot prescribe a new one.
Microsoft has destroyed the PC, it is no longer 'personal'. Linux is the only user-centric OS left. Run the Win11 EULA through AI and see what it finds.

>>108529533>enoughFag. I use Apple products and I’d never say shit like this.
Linux feels more like Windows than Windows now
>>108529550Its ok to come out of the closet anon. I wish I was as gay as you to use Apple products.

>>108529462unix has some serious issues (cf unix haters handbook) but the reality is the lack of rigor has its usesyes it's fucking embarrassing that ps | grep is the only standard way to get any information out of the system but at the same time you can easily write shell scripts that work in 95% of caseswindows has a standard that doesn't break down if your process names include spaces, but nobody writes the scripts. i know they've tried to improve this with powerscript.as for my use of unix it's because i've been using it for 20 years more than anything else. i also believe i should know and be able to predict what my computer does, and windows does not offer me that. none of the niche oses seem capable of daily use. mac os does not offer me that anymore although it did in 2002 >>108529394even "modern" linux is making it difficult
>>108529462>Unixes have good ideas. Everything is a file. Ad hoc Composition of processes using pipes. Those are not good ideas. "Everything is a file" doesn't tell you anything about how the files can be used and it dumbed down "file" into "sequence of bytes." Better operating systems like Genera and Multics let you compose programs by calling programs on the same stack and message passing is a better form of IPC than pipes.

I play videogames, that alone rules out both mac and BSD I'd kill a person for a mac at work instead of jeetOS thoughever
>>108529364MacOS has terrible UX, the only good thing about muh macbooks is that the compile times for nodejs webdev shit are blazing fast, otherwise linux is better at everything macos tries to be.
