why don't you upgrade to am5?
>>
Why should I?
It's still quite an investment because RAM prices haven't dropped to anything remotely sane. I got 32GB of DDR4 here (3600 CL16) that work perfectly fine. I got a 5900X which isn't amazing or revolutionary for gaming but it still does quite a lot. I don't know, why should I upgrade to AM5?

its still unstable with the fastest DDR5 RAM, shits not finished

Im not gay

5800x3d is enough for me. Most games are gpu bound anyways and are optimized to run on the Ps5/XSX, so I'll run any game without issues with that CPU. Outside of gayming, I rarely need CPU power maby to compile a program once in a while, or handbrake.

And of course RAM prices. It's insane how much my CPU is worth even on the used market. I could literally sell it and almost buy a 9800x3d

I did in November. Got in just before RAM prices went totally nuts. Literally the last good deal on a kit of DDR5, haven't had another alert since. Paired with a $118 9600X from AliExpress and a Black Friday deal motherboard. I ended up making a decent profit on the move once I sold my AM4 setup and got a huge performance boost for the things I care about in the process.
>>
because i have a 5700x3d, my only actual upgrade option was getting a 9950x3d and that's just a 9800x3d and a 9700x glued together with latency penalties for jumping ccds
i'll wait until zen6 with its 12 core ccds
>>
Already did. Wasn't sure if it was worth it since the cpu of my choice had far less PCIE lanes which limits my choice for expansions, but I could get a pcie4.0x1 AQC113 10GbE card so it was okay. However I'm completely maxed out on my current board, while on AM4 I still would've had two or three slots to use.

Only reason I'm keeping it is because of the RAM prices, and it's hard going back to the old iGPU. At least thanks to the RAM idiocy I could sell the old machine to cover up the upgrade costs.

>>108531513
I upgraded my 2600x to a 5900x because it was under 200€. If I had updated to AM5 it would have cost me over 700€ (including the processor, motherboard and ram), and with the current prices it would be even higher.

Memory training is a thing on every platform, you dumb nigger. And it isn't "training" in the sense your dumb monkey brain thinks it is.

>>108531513
I'm not gonna upgrade unless they start giving us full ECC support, I'm way too old to deal with random crashes
>>
>>108531513
honestly I think I can skip DDR5 since I bought a 5800X3D

~240GB/s bandwidth would make CPU AI more than viable, and PCIE 6 bandwidth should free up a lot of lanes since USB4 is so bandwidth hungry
>>
my am4 rig is so fast it's boring
I have to do absolutely idiotic shit like picrel to stay entertained
>>
Except I did. Quit spending all your money on not pc components and magically you can afford to do so too. Upgraded to a $1700 rig by setting aside $50-100 a week, replacing my GPU first so I could feel some gains half way through.

>>108531894
funny, can't recall my 128gb mac ultra or 12900k with 128gb ever having to train anything.

training ram, pathetic really.

My 5700X3D is fine.

You just gave me an idea... I might upgrade my 5 3600X with a 7 5800XT.

>>108531513
already sold one of my kidneys for a new ssd
cannot afford buying new DDR5 ram for AM5 these days.
>>
>>108531513
I only upgraded to AM4 recently and it's so fast I feel like I'll never need an upgrade ever again

don't buy Asrock.

anon, AM5 has been out for 4 years and has at least one new cpu generation (Zen 6) plus the AI 400 APUs still coming out. If this was Intel they'd have changed sockets three times by now.

bought a b450 mobo in 2020 paired with a RX580 and ryzen 2700, later upgraded to a 6800XT and 5700X with 32GB ram running 3800 MT/s tight timings and its running fine especially longer term with the gpu undervolted which makes it get stock performance at 170W max

>why don't you upgrade to am5?
Because I've been on AM4 since 2020, switched from an R5 3600 to R7 5700X at some point, there's no need to upgrade.
>>
>>108531513
went from a i7 8700k to a 9950x3d this December.
good improvements but this one will probably last even longer with how we have stalled.

I used whatever the i5 4690k was on for a decade. I will do the same with the AM4 system I built late I to the cycle

AM6 and AM7 soon releasing.

>AM6 soon
2029 at the absolute earliest. We likely aren't getting desktop Zen 6 until 2027 and that's still AM5.
>>
Because I am broke
