>yeah bro I use linux cause microsoft is evil and it spies on me and shieet
>imediately installs steam, spotify and discord
>>
Valve isn't evil, I don't care if they spy on me.
>>

Valve can spy on me all they want, makes me feel like a special boy
>>
this. i don't get it. i suggested my friend steam might be closed code and he sperged out how steam is responsible for making linux good.

you don't understand
Steam is good because it's popular and it's making linux more appealing to newbies
Canonical is bad because is popular and making linux more appealing to newbies

you're not wrong but these programs are a far cry from having copilot on your system

Because they fixed Proton, and Proton is the whole "secret sauce" that makes gaemz run.

Yes, really. That's it, Steam doesn't contain any secret magic. There's no secret blob that's making your Windows game run on Linux.

For that reason, there are other launchers. Steam literally is responsible for you being able to play Epic games on Linux.

I still don't get why people install this shit when oyu can use it in the browser, same goes for the chatGIPITI, claude etc. apps

Steam had tons of fanboys way before involvement in proton. You would tell them they introduced DRM in 2000s and killed softward copies. As a monopoly, they take too big of a share for listing games on their platform (bigger than physical stores). Bug still, you always had people boasting, I pirated a gog game but i would never pirate a steam one. Gamers are subhumans as much as stoners

this but unironically

Proprietary software is much less harmful than proprietary operating system. It's trivial to monitor what steam, spotify and discord do and what data they collect. And despite so many people spreading FUD about them, we know they do not do anything sus, just scan for running games to display rich presence iff you have that option turned on. You can't do the same about windows.

>>108532277
Valve invested quite a lot into Linux, especially proton/wine. Their handheld console is running arch and all their services work on Linux. No other store provides me with means to run everything on Linux, add custom games and have that be streamed to my TV for full console piracy experience.
>>
>>108532476
>I pirated a gog game but i would never pirate a steam one.
Pirating steam game in 99% of cases means dropping universal steam crack and launching it. Their DRM is as minimal as it gets, it's equivalent of having a spaghetti strand as your padlock.

>Gamers are subhumans
You literally said you've been pirating games in the previous post.

I am not the person you were talking to before. I am 37 and have a steam account from 2003. With 5 games on it. In my youth i have pirated thousands of games. Now I own thousands on gog. I am not a gamer just like a person who enjoys weed is not automatically a stoner.

I use linux because it doesn't auto-update my shit and because windows fucking blows.
I use steam because it works. The only thing I hate about steam is that they don't let me roll back shitty updates or stay on an older branch of game.

The only one i have is steam and it's running like 1% of the time and is in a sandbox anyway.

>>
>>108532373
This. The main appeal of open source software, especially for something as privileged as an operating system, is that it can be audit by the public, so it's far less likely that it's doing evil shit. Applications can be sandboxed to make sure they're unable to do evil shit, so it's fine that they're proprietary as long as they still function without dangerous permissions. I don't see how a Spotify flatpak is going to cause much harm.

when it comes to data protection, it is all or nothing. what good is an open source OS if it is not microsoft or apple that transfer all your data to US/Israel government but valve? you are not finding a middle ground, you are just wasting your time as you fail your goal either way unless you go completely tinfoil.
