Too cheap for VPN? tor/i2p too slow?

I have built qBittorrent for Windows with custom settings under Options -> BitTorrent:

> Enable leech mode
> This rejects all upload requests to peers.
and
> Suppress bitfield / HAVE messages
> This doesn't let peer know which pieces you have. So you appear to have 0.0%. Must stop and restart a torrent to take effect.

While you can still be logged for connecting/requesting pieces, it still significantly lowers risk of your IP being logged torrenting.

Well decentralized protocols like BitTorrent are hard to shut down. Even if BitTorrent hadn't become popular, another similar p2p protocol would have taken its place. So what protocols are you talking about?
