Typical Spammin' Sanjay lying in his troll posts because he can't handle the reality that Apple is a spyware company. The truth is UK law only forces APP-MAKERS like Discord, Reddit, X, Facebook, Instagram to verify users because of all the CP on their platforms.

Apple just saw it as the perfect opportunity to enforce mass surveillance at the OS level and passed the blame onto the UK.

If you are ok with a physical keyboard, we can get you a 4" screen.

https://clicks.tech/communicator
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/jellyphone/titan-2-elite-the-5g-keyboard-phone-youve-been-waiting-for

Unfortunately, the costs of custom tooling along with the poor sales of small phones (like the iPhone Mini) means that you are unlikely to see normal phones with 5.5" screens the near future.

The standard "regular" phone is 6.3" now, but if you take the Pixel 10 Pro for example with smaller bezels it is actually shorter and slimmer than the Nexus 6 (6.0" screen) or iPhone 6 Plus (5.5" screen).

Any SD855 phone from 2018 still loads every app instantly. It was the Sandy Bridge for ARM. The only thing it can't do is run the latest slop AAA mobile gambling gatcha garbage at maximum graphics settings.
Smartphones have long since peaked.
If you have one with an unlocked bootloader it'll last longer than any current flagship, and absolutely longer than any iPhone that gets throttle updoots yearly.

I don't play games on my new smartphones and I also don't come to a technology board lying about how old smartphones from 5 years ago are magically better with a rom install. You're a troll constantly having to insult iPhones in every post. Are you a little kid? Not everyone here has only a iPhone some.of.us can afford multiple new flagships. This is a technology board we buy new tech here and don't post lies coping, that's not what adults do. Adults also aren't obsessed with constantly having to post misinformation about Apple every post either. You obviously can't afford a brand new flagship and are coming here to argue and fight with people who can. This is /g people come here to discuss new tech. If you wanna discuss old tech that's fine but stop getting mad when we remind you that old tech is slower than anything new.

>>
>>108539102
The Nexus 6 was huuuuge for the time, the codename was literally "shamu". A regular Pixel 10 Pro has a larger screen while being physically smaller due to bezel shrinkage. It's also significantly less wide due to the aspect ratio. A 10 Pro XL is slightly taller and a bit less wide than a Nexus 6, despite having a 6.9" screen vs a 6.0" screen.

>>108538346
It's not a matter of love vs hate, you can still use an older ThinkPad while being secure and mostly it will still run fairly well with a modern Linux OS. The main issue with phones is Qualcomm, who would only support two Android updates for a particular SoC until quite recently. Yes, custom ROMs exist, but they often have to use outdated drivers made for older versions of Android. The situation for other operating systems is even worse, many rely on libhybris which is a mechanism for using these same Android drivers in an alternative OS.

There's also the processing power and efficiency angle, with ARM chipmakers making significant progress although this is slowing down. Then the slop apps most people use are getting even more bloated with each release and the small batteries in older phones which degrade if not replaced, and you end up with a slow device that doesn't last a full day.

Imagine posting lies in a technology board that sic batteries are better than lithium ion batteries. Thank God stuff like this doesn't fly in my country and we can tell when someone is full of it.
>>
>>108539645
you (deliberately) misunderstood the numbers. the power draw of the OS has increased by 17% resulting in 21% worse battery life, not that your physical battery has dropped to 80% capacity from brand new
>>
>>108537126
It's so sad how uneducated you are and openly coming here to lie and troll. If you weren't so low IQ you would know the lawsuits meta and YouTube lost forcing them to pay hundreds of millions in damages they caused to a minor using their platforms. Many more similar cases are pending too, this is a way for a company to shield itself. That's why Google and Meta are doing age verifications, but it's also to spy on everybody. Are you not capable of reading and understanding how devcheck pro works before blurting out completely wrong information? Devcheck pro is the MOST accurate device checking app for Android, it's used by all android devs. The Battery Capacity and Health section of the app is on point, people have checked. The app requires you to fully charge the smartphone to 100% at least once and let's you monitor the mah charge current levels to determine when the battery is really full. Doing so it determines the full capacity. I know my apps and smartphones VERY well so don't come here making stuff up. My sic battery smartphones degrade faster than traditional lithium ion. Simple as. All posts saying anything else is incorrect. I know what my smartphones are doing, since I'm the one using them.

>>
>>108540984
I wanted to try out a red magic and oneplus for the first time. Now I know that software on both of them is glitchy and the sic batteries won't last more than 2 years tops on medium use. I have a s26 ultra I promised to sell to someone I know since I don't want it. Android Authority said the s25 ultra is better and I had that last year. I don't want old phones, sorry I just don't live like that and it doesn't hurt me financially to buy tech for fun.
But the 24gb ram aspect of the rm11 pro is what really sold me. It's so fast when the software isn't glitching.

I was converted into itoddlism last year and haven’t looked back. The only thing I miss is a functional clipboard.

Yeh, i've made it into my 30's now, without ever owning one, but must admit that i have been tempted.

although its nice that it has the switches, it sucks that they are internal, and appear to be incredibly fragile.
id like to be able to toggle freely and easily.
>>
>>108539645
Chemistry proves that sic batteries aren't good for smartphones since they expand during charging and heavy use which also causes chemical degradation of the battery. Anyone who understands high school level of chemistry would be able to figure this out.

Once again it is time for an update on my wonderful Pixel 10 Pro Fold. I'm still loving that nice big screen and the thinness is incredible, I no longer have a need for a Kindle.

The camera did excellent at Easter, very crisp and clear images and it paired with my Bluetooth selfie stick/tripod very quickly.

It has taken a few pocket-height falls and has no scratches so far, unlike my Samsung which has more scars and chips than my wife's car. The magnets in back (pixelsnap, they call it) are pretty strong and hood the phone up well, sadly I find this quite useless, as we all know Android charges must faster by cable and wireless charging is a meme.
>>
>buy OnePlus 13
>easily get 9, sometimes 10 hours SOT
>8 months later
>SOT is now more in line with my S23U (7h-8h) which had a 20% smaller battery

I've heard Si/C degrades faster than Li-ion, but like this? Is ColorOS really this bad or is Si/C a meme unless the capacity is substantially larger than traditional 5000mAh Li-ion batteries? Right now it feels like 5200mAh-5500mAh and not 6000mAh.
>>
>>108538346
We remember older phones fondly. LG G5 was awesome for swappable batteries and the camera grip. My Xperia 5 is still really good, just needed to upgrade because without 5g I have no signal in my shitty 'burb. It can even play 3D chink games, just on lower settings. You won't ever catch me with a modern Apple or Samsung
>>
>>108542227
that's not a flex dude
>>
>>108542282
Why would I need to "flex" in a smartphone thread. Everyone has a phone, they're cheap and given out practically free
>>
>newest chink phone camera fad is 200MP main camera
This is objectively bad, no? What exactly is there to be gained from having such a high resolution sensor if the sensor itself is barely larger than its predecessor?
>>
How long can you store a spare battery before it goes bad (loses 10-20% capacity)?
>>
>>108542331
More pixels = more detail. Yes the sensor size makes the real difference but BIG NUMBER is all the normies care about.
>>
>>108541947
>build your own phone
How to into buidl phone?
>if you have to be this particular about it
My wish list is very short.
Ive never owned a mobile before so i dont have the performance expectations that people used to owning modern phones do.
But Im pretty sure most people want a removable battery by now, so their phone isnt just ewaste after a few years.
The only niche request is the switches,
and i really do wish that idea was more popular, atleast here of all places, why else would you be using an anonymous board, if you didnt place atleast some value on privacy?
>>
>>108542376
You can replace the battery on pretty much any phone, just because you can't autistically hotswap the battery doesn't mean it isn't replaceable.
>>
>>108542430
>just because you can't autistically hotswap the battery
I want to carry a spare battery in my bag when i go on trips. without having to bring a phone repair toolkit aswell.
>>
>>108542457
Why? What kind of trips have you awake and on your phonr for 24 hours with no time to sleep+charge?
>>
>>108542457
External batteries exist, Anon
>>
>>108542474
Remote locations.
There are reasons most cameras still have swappable batteries; recording kills batteries fast, and charging takes time.
>>
>>108542509
Then bring a power bank. You won't have service in such remote locations so you can be in airplane mode, which will save you battery. The idea of some neckbeard with multiple lithium cells in his cargo shorts to swap out so he can play his animuu game longer in the middle of nowhere is hilarious to me.
>>
>>108542628
>The idea of
The idea is for one device, that can do everything, minimizing carried bulk and weight.
Big reason smartphones are so popular today, they are extremely portable all-in-one devices
.
An external battery bank is not a substitute for a swappable battery in all situations;
if you are recording, you wil burn battery faster than the bank can charge it, and it will also generate excessive heat, to be using it while charging, it will cause the phone to shut down in warmer weather.

I got me a dirt cheap* Blackview smartphone exclusively for the rare cases that I need to do online banking with certain retarded Portuguese banks that don't offer proper websites for this.

I now want to debloat this cheap fucker as much as possible without losing or even just risking the capability of installing/running banking apps from GooglePlay. Rooting is not an option i.e. I don't want it to become unnecessarily complicated as I would use the phone for banking only and keep it locked away in a thick safe.

Is there some to-do list or guide for a lean banking phone setup? I know I could read over 9000 fucking manuals but I would like to save some time by only consuming condensed information on this particular use case.

Any tip is appreciated.

*70€ btw. It's a little sluggish but seems good enough for the job.
>>
I have an unlocked S23ultra that an old job bought me years ago. I just broke the screen from having it in a bag with hard objects, again, exactly one year out of warranty from the last screen repair and battery replacement. It's like $300, do I bite the bullet and pay for it because this is still a really good pone and I'm too autistic to deal with it cracked.

>>108542677
Adding;
When i am out, i currently carry;
A Garming GPS unit (navigation)
A GoPro (recording)
A small laptop (media)
A 2-way Radio (communication)

This is alot of shit.
Ideally it could all be replaced with 1 device, but that device would need to have swappable batteries.

Because it's a shit game that doesn't care about Android people (probably because iOS users are dumb and spend more money on microtransactions on this Zelda clone), despite some phones having hardware capable of running it at 120fps. So you can cope more about how you get more frames in Mihoyo games despite it being a problem of the Chinese game and has nothing to do with the chipset. iPhone is just like a PC~! What can it do? Uhh.... Run apps that Apple allows you to. Even Macs aren't limited like this.

Apple has an exclusivity contract with Mihoyo for their games to run at 120fps on certain iPhones. Just like they paid so only iOS and not Android had controller support until very recently.

Apple pays the Chinese developer to keep certain mobile features locked to their platform. You use it for benchmarks and clap like a seal that Samsung can "only get" 60fps while iPhone can almost reach a consistent 120fps...not because of differences in the capability of the hardware, but because of contracts and $$$ thrown to Mihoyo to gatekeep features to iOS only on mobile.

How much RAM do you need on a phone?

I'm still using a Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with 12 GB RAM. When I have a game open with YouTube running picture-in-picture, my RAM usage approaches 8 GB.
>>
I bought an S25 Ultra because I fell for the 200 MP camera meme and I've come to realize I don't ever need more than a 50MP camera, majority of the time 12MP is good enough. What's a good phone to switch to and sell this? Keep in mind it must be able to run Gakuen Idolmaster at 60FPS on high settings.

>>108544449
More RAM the better, but I'd say 8 is a healthy minimum. I wouldn't worry about reaching 8/12GB as the Linux kernel aggressively caches stuff.
https://www.linuxatemyram.com/
It's more likely that Samsung or Xiaomi or whatever version of Android is aggressively killing background apps if you notice that happening vs you actually running out of RAM to hold them.

It seems like Si/C performs very well when brand new but ends up performing like it's a lower capacity at some point. I could usually get 9-10hrs SOT out of my 13 when I first got it, but nowadays I get a relatively average 7-8hrs. Battery health seems fine at 99% so I don't think it's actually degrading quickly on a chemical level or something, but that shit could just be a total lie and the actual number might be way lower for all I know.

Don't give your little bro an iPhone because it is a device is built for the seasoned gravity of a person who has seen at least seven decades of life. A smartphone isn't a toy; it is a digital responsibility that requires the weary patience of someone who has spent forty years mastering the art of the long-form complaint. Until he has developed the weathered knuckles of a man who remembers life before the internet and the stoic maturity of someone who actually enjoys reading terms and conditions, he is simply too embryonic for such a sophisticated machine. It is better to wait until he has reached an age where he views a low battery notification not as an inconvenience, but as a poignant metaphor for his own fleeting mortality.
