>can't edit word documents without a microsoft accountwhy is this a thing? just let me buy the program and use it on my computer
Do you need Microsoft Word for something or can you use an alternative like LibreOffice?
>>108536922Control, duh.
>>108536922>just let me buy the program and use it on my computerbut you can though? just don't use windows. it's your choice.
>>108536922You can use it to write illegal words so they need to verify your identity so they know who to prosecute under California law.
>>108536922time to learn linux
>>108536922Perpetual licenses are still a thing for office. No need for an account.
Word processors were a mistake. In most cases a simple text file would be sufficient
The Clippy versions of Office don't have this problem.
>>108536922I dont have this problem
>>108536922>2026>still using ms officeUnless you're a drone working for some enterprise (and by such not your choice and problem) you shouldn't touch that shit not even with a 10ft pole.
>>108538648What employees regularly use MS Word in 2026? Im pretty sure students are the largest userbase these days. Office workers dont really type and print documents that much anymore
>>108538707I've seen a whole lot of google office (which isn't better than op case but still).
>>108538733yeah my question was what department do you work in where people are editing .docx files daily
>>108536922Just run an activator.
>>108538744Speaking personally i do some helpdesk to a legal firm and they do need a word processor there as a main appliance.
>boiling pasta>want to start a timer>can't find the phone>open the clock app on windows 11>it prompts you to log inI'M ALREADY LOGGED INTO MY ACCOUNT WHY THE FUCK IS THERE A SEPARATE LOGIN FOR EACH APPLICATION
>>108538744I don't know. Everywhere? Law, accounting, secretary shit, real estate, public services.
>>108536922I know it's bad and it shouldn't be like this, but nobody reproaches Apple when they require you to sign in to use their OS.
>>108538707Loads do but they mostly export to PDF with the explicit intention nobody modifies it afterwards.
>>108536922Faggot>>108536942>>108538569This
install onlyoffice
>>108536922>my computer
>>108538648>ms officeI'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as MS Office, is in fact, Microsoft 365 Copilot, or as I've recently taken to calling it, Microsoft 365 plus Copilot.
>>108536922>Just let me buy the programThere's your mistake, just pirate it. Get a cracked copy that won't make you sign in, or even pay for it. The only way you can show a company you're not happy with their software is by not buying it.
>>108536922Imagine trying to buy software. Do you buy sermons and memes too?
>>108538648>Unless you're a drone working for some enterpriseThey've all moved to office 365 (IE ms's version of Google docs.)
>>108539955>They've all moved to office 365Sure but my recent experience has been they use 365 90% for Outlook, 9% for Excel and maybe 1% for Powerpoint and Word. Like maybe someone has to print an Out of Order sign for the bathroom but thats about it, nobody prints Word documents anymore. We still print stuff like invoices etc but that comes from specialized database software, not Word. Employees do basic data entry and the CRM or whatever its called makes the documents, nobody is manually editing tables and shit anymore
>>108536922>>108536942>>108537000>still using Office 2003 in a Windows XP machineNot my problem.
A universal document file is such an easy thing to create, why haven't we moved on from .docx yet? Not that it really matters, I just use Google docs and save it in whatever format I need.
>>108536922sorry your documents must be submitted to the Department of Love to check for hate words
Use the activate dot win scripts to generate a 10 years key and forget about it for the next decade
>>108540477Any new format suffers from implementation issues.Webp, for example, is a perfectly reasonable format. The issue is that almost no consumer software (and several relatively common websites, here included) don't support it, leading to people decrying it as a shit format, leading to software devs NOT adding compatibility (why bother when the user is just gonna webp-to-png the thing) and sites not adding compatibility, which just feeds back into people decrying it as a shit format. You have revolutionary formats, like jpegxl, but nobody ever uses them, that's the power of the established name/format.Sure, you could develop the .dicksneeze format that perfectly works for all text, but people are still using docx, and will keep using docx.
>>108540346Power point (I think you underestimated that) and excel are probably the biggest behind outlook yeah.Everyone pretty much seems to use markdown instead of word now.
>>108538795All of those can be handled with LibreOffice nowadays. There is not a single reason to use MS slop.
