Every time I need to install a distro on a new computer I go through the same process: I spend a day looking at different distros and how they've changed, what's new, etc. and then end up installing Void.
>>
>>108538674
whose computer did you destroy today loonixer?
>>
same, but I just download ubuntu and don't waste my time
>>
What a gay name for a distro, no thanks
>>
>>108538831
It comes from the C programming langauge. Essentially it means "no arguments".
>>
>>108538674
There’s a new distro you should check out called Windows. Try it out, unless you’re afraid of learning something new.
>>
>>108539184
I used to use Windows. Last Windows I used was Windows XP. I made the switch to Linux in 2005 and never looked back.

Void? No thanks, that's racist software.
>>
>>108538674
How's Void as a daily driver, OP? I'm looking into it myself.
>>

anon. . .

>>108541013
as a hobby its pretty alright. a daily drive you pushing it.
>>

>a daily drive you pushing it.
nigga im using gentoo as my daily driver
i want something light for my laptop, ubuntu+gnome is too sluggish for my taste
>>
>>108541013
I've been daily driving it for like 8 years, on laptops and desktops. I've never had problems. It just works. Like I've had issues, but those had to do with software, not with Void or xbps itself. xbps is just awesome.
>>
>>108543292
Thanks, anon. How's the initial setup? I'm currently on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed, which pretty much just werks out of the box, so I'm wondering if Void is doable for a retarded person.
>>
>>108543309
There's a xfce live image which you can then install. But it's easy to set it up however you want with whatever WM or DE by following the handbook. They did a good job with it.

any server edition/netinstall of Linux+any lightweight wm
Slackware+fluxbox
Arch+openbox
Devuan+dwm
etc.

If you have experience, hows Void KDE implementation?
>>
>>108544183
That's my daily driver. Just like everything else, it just works. It doesn't come with all the apps and utilities by default, but you can install them if you want.
>>
>>108544220
Awesome, thank you, anon.
>>
>>108538674
Void keeps getting into petty spats with other projects, to the point where they refuse to even enable other programs' flags that involve said projects, breaking universal functionality for everyone else https://github.com/void-linux/void-packages/pull/57815
I find its lightweight and DIY nature to be very interesting but I refuse to use a distro that so heavily dictates what I can or cannot conveniently use on my computer for such infantile shit.
>>
>>108544878
I'm glad you mentioned that. I've been considering switching to Void after this guy on YouTube (YouTux) made a good argument in favor of it. But lately he published another vid dripping with insecurity over Void being low in the rankings on distrowatch.com. So now I'm a little apprehensive.
>>
>>108544878
Wow.
https://github.com/ItsLemmy/void-packages/tree/master/srcpkgs/quickshell
Fixed.
>>108545854
The thing about Void is that nobody is forcing you to do anything. It is trivial to build your own package and install it. In this case, you don't need to, because someone has already done it. You just add their repo to repo.d/ and install normally.
>>
>>108539946
Gross. Imagine installing this trash.
>>
>>108545854
If distrowatch rankings meant anything we would all have been using MX Linux for the last 5 years only switching to CachyOS or Mint recently.
>>
>>108545926
Of course I agree but this guy YouTux doesn't think so. He's constantly championing Void as the distribution normal people should use by default. So it burns him up that it's not taking over distrowatch. Linux people in general are very grumpy about what others use. There's dumb infighting over petty choices people are free to make.
>>
>>108545854
You know how the rankings are calculated, right? It just counts how many times people have searched for that distro on distrowatch.com. It is not a measure of popularity or how good a distro is. I'm pretty sure MX Linux has been gaming it with bots/scripts to stay on top all this time.

Wow.
>>
>>108545958
if it makes anyone feel better, Artix's live ISOs install a browser that opens their distrowatch on first boot to game the system and they're barely past 40th place kek, Void is doing well all things considered
>>
>>108545854
Maybe i should make a video about it so you can such my dick as well.

I don't catch your meaning.
