this happens when i plug it into anything

Your power supply isn't enough for all the gizmos and dildos you've attached to the thing.
>>
>>108538714
This, rpi4 (and 5) need special power supply. 3.5A for a rpi4, up to 5A for a 5.
You might get away with less if you have powered usb hub for attached devices.. external usb hdd take too much power so you might get away with one, but not with two
>>
Sweet paperweight bro
>>
>>108538711
Retard device needs retard powersupply and generally acts retarded, what a shocker. Not that I hate the thing with a passion, but I went through buying a supported PS to it and it was hell, truly.
>>
>>108538901
that is a raspberry pi 3
>>
>>108538902
Cope for the uncreative.
>>
>>108538711
add a capacitor or use a high power charger
>>
>>108538906
my bad, didn't even notice the 1 hdmi desu
rpi3b+ has a 2.5A charger recommended
>>
>>108539008
this actually worked thanks
>>
yup pi3b the last pi ill ever buy
>>
>>108538711
Use a steam deck power supply.
>>
>>108538711
I wonder why they didn't skip the USB port on the newer Pis and just stuck a barrel connector for 12V there.
>>
>>108540333
Because USB-C is what all the cool kids use.
>>
>>108538711
why can't the rpi people just use regular power standards?
>pi 4 starts to boot from USB from another computer, and then barely fails making it pointless for OTG.
>pi 5 requires their stupid power adapter since almost nothing supports the power specs they want
they deserve failure. the pi6 will use usbc and route full AC over it.
>>
>>108540564
>pi6
oh boy i cant wait to consoom 25W $399 sbc
>>
>>108538711
I'll buy it when it can stream 1080p YouTube and not stuttery 720p
>>
>>108540574
In the current economy, it's actually a good investment. I sold my rpi5 8GB at double the price
>>
>>108538711
because it's a retarded design where they left it at 5V despite putting ever increasingly power hungry silicon on it.
Couldn't they have implemented a 9V negotiation and handle the conversion on board?
>>
>>108540432
but it's still usb-c 5v. the pi 4 doesn't negotiate any higher voltage so what is the point? Few chargers can put out the 4A on 5v. Even my 100w charger only outputs max 2A@5v.
>>
>>108538711
Seek spiritual remedy.
Buy new.
>>
>>108540333
>>108540564
The raspberry pi is literally just a phone motherboard, once you realise that all the retarded design decisions make sense
>powered by USB-C
>no sata ports, usb storage only
>random ribbon cable connectors for a camera and a screen.... because it's a phone
>>
>>108540564
So you can run it with two 18650's.
>>
>>108541192
When are they gonna start making phones with gpio and ethernet?
>>
>>108541311
I would imagine all phones do have GPIO pins internally, it's just that they're connected to the volume buttons, gyroscope, fingerprint sensor etc.
You can use ethernet on any phone with a usb-c to ethernet adapter. Which I'm pretty sure the raspberry pi is basically also doing, at least on the Pi 3 the ethernet port shared bandwidth with the USB controller because it was just an ethernet to usb adapter internally.
>>
>>108538711
Why are you undervolting a raspberry pi, you donut?
>>
>>108541359
Wow you're so smart. When are they gonna turn phones into break out boards that we can hack with?
>>
>>108538711
Pi is useless now. They jacked the price up way higher than what it's actually worth.
>>
>>108541419
No, the prices are exactly proportional to RAM. Without RAM probs, the pi5 8gb would be the same price as the 4b when they came out. Somewhere around 75 bucks.
>>
>>108538711
it wants to see roughly 5.2V at its input, not whatever your chink shit aluminum resistive wire phone cord is putting out under load
they are pretty garbage tho, linux is a toy OS for neckbeards and troons, definitely buying a an x86 sbc next time
>>
>>108538711
add
avoid_warnings=1
to config.txt and mount root read only
>>
>>108541469
you are extremely retarded
pi5 and pi4 were overpriced for years before ram hike
>>
>>108541601
>config.txt
what the fuck is that
>>
>>108541623
It's almost like you get more than hardware for the cost or something, idk. Just buy a knock-off with a shitty os.
>>
>>108541623
If they were overpriced, they'd be in stock.
>>
>>108541537
yes, no one uses linux for any serious work. this smart anon gets it.
>>
>>108540865
No the fuck it isn’t lmao.
Even the cheapest, shittiest mini PC’s with celeron or athlon processors would absolutely mog a 16gb rpi.

This. The power supplies wear out very quick. Consider them a fixed expense like tires.
>>
>>108538711
>uses under-spec power supply
>bitches about it
Can't you read?
>>
>>108538906
>pi 3
>>108539008
>rpi3b+
You can also use
raspi-config
to disable services you don't want to reduce power consumption
>I2C
>HDMI out
>audio out
>wifi
>VNC
>>
>>108538903
This is the real answer.
>>108538711
The real fix is to buy one of the "recommended" USB power supplies for the thing if it's running USB micro on an RPI 3B. My others are Orange Pi with USB-C. No issues.
>>
>>108541692
something you can google
>>
>>108541410
>When are they gonna turn phones into break out boards that we can hack with?
Just get a phone development kit. Get one with an FPGA as well, and do some real hardware hacking.
>>
>>108541192
pi SoC are actually from old TV set-tops, usb-c power is fairly standard among SBCs and the only issue with it is that those retards don't want to follow PD standard.
>>
>>108542769
>disable services you don't want to reduce power consumption
That will barely do anything to resolve OP's problem.
HDMI is the biggest power draw and it will save you just 1 watt.
>>
>>108538711
Don't use the power supply cable with the on/off switch on it that comes with the kit, they cause the undervolting issue
>>
>>108538901
I get the warning even with the official power supply
>>
>>108538901
>up to 5A for a 5.
Those retards should have added another voltage converter and simply accepted 9V/2.7A, 12V/2A or even higher voltages.
>>
>>108547737
but then they couldn't randomly release the pi5 on the world with only one known working power supply for everyone to buy. get your pi5 with rpi branded power supply, pi branded keyboard and mouse and display and sd card and nvme hat and nvme and case. all for a small markup!
>>
>>108538711
>this happens when i plug it into anything
Plug it in your ass
>>
User error. Mine runs fine off the USB port of my laptop.
>>
>>108542758
>use official raspberry pi power supply rated for the exact model
>get warning anyway
Funny how there are no such issues when using an alternative pi company's product.
>>
>>108538901
got the special power supply for my Rpi5, havent booted up rpi5 in a year and using the power supply to charge my phone...

yep
>>
i use the special rpi5 power supply, but the case i bought fucks around and breaks the sensing. so i still have to disable the check.
>>
>>108541162
>Even my 100w charger only outputs max 2A@5v.
so its a 10w charger? lol
>>108538711
problem is twofold

one, no rpi chip has ever ran as fast as its actually supposed to, and secondly all usb adapters suck massive fucking cock and cant actually supply rated power. theres so many different ways to implement DC power delivery from an electrical schematic point of view. many cheaper designs really cannot have sustained output
>>
>>108551051
NTA but most PD chargers won't allow 3A draw from 5V, at least it's not officially supported where it won't trip OCP if you tried. 5A is almost exclusively locked behind the 20V output.
A 5V 5A profile isn't "standard" for most USB C PD sources

PPS can do it but it's like pulling hens teeth finding a charger that can do low voltage PPS at 5A
>>
>>108543573
That come with a usable os made for it? Or like usb headers already installed? i hate phones. I like computers. Hats won't work on your dumb dev kit. I probably have a longer penis than you, I really don't want to see you flex yours.
