Hell yeah, fellow black-on-charcoal friend. I hate trannies too and I've been thinking about getting a Lily58 with low profile choc keys. I haven't had luck finding black-on-charcoal key caps in that style; I'm probably going to settle for blank caps.
>>
They're affordable but they'll never be cheap since they don't mass manufacture them.
I don't know why the ergodox and those big proprietary ergo keyboard manufacturers are 2x the price at minimum. They should have batch manufacturing advantages.

totally organic shill thread, is this your 4th thread of the week ? and its monday

I found a deal on an aliexpress keyball44 for like $25 but I use a tiling window manager with a lot of keybinds and I find it hard to imagine that it will feel good to use without the num row for switching between tags. I feel like it would just be a waste of time and money to get it.

you need layers my man.
>>
>>108545561
I know but then I would have to press 3 keys (super + numlayer + num) to switch between tags and 4 keys (super + numlayer + shift + num) to send a program to another tag

>>
>>108545662
i know. I'm new to this stuff so I'm not sure if this is optimal, but currently I have separate num-layer and super-num-layer so i can change workspaces using two key combo. But I have to say it feels bit weird to have two mod keys for wm navigation.
>>
>>108545730
How long have you been using it for? Is it worth the switch?
>>
>>108545823
three weeks maybe. depends on the use-case. i only just learned to type again with decent speed but i think i like it very much. The ergonomic boost has been big for me, it has made me type correctly using all fingers and finding keys more easily and I can reach my keyboard easier.
>>
>>108545327
Nothing I hate more than fucking Japanese legends. Ain't nobody but old-ass niggaz who type in that layout. ばかあzzぶllしてです
>>
>>108543311
i have wirless version form aliexpress, bought even cheaper. It works great but only with android, macos or ipados.
With windows PC it disconnects after while and you cant reconnect it easly, u have to reset memory.
So im using it just for shortcuts with my graphics tablet. I wanted to buy epo maker split with normal layout and use soffle only with tablet
>>
>>108543319
I hate to break it to you but it's a tranny hobby, but we all unfortunately live long enough to see something we enjoy co-opted and infiltrated by troons.
>>
>>108541543
>are these cheap now?
depends, do you think $75 for one that involves some hand labor is cheap? got one of them of aliexpress recently and I was very impressed with it
>>
>>108545716
>staggered rows
Terrible.
I can understand the rarity of split keyboards, but I don't understand the rarity of ortholinear keyboards at all. It seems like something that should be just as common as chinkshit mech boards.
>>108546303
Claiming that something has been co-opted by trannies was the first hobby co-opted by trannies. It's the only way for them to get any momentum.
>>
been thinking about getting a split keyboard to use in bed. one on each side with a screen in front of my face. but then i worry i might lie down too much if it works well
>>
>>108545662
You don't need super shift and num, you have 2 things:
First you can change your WM config, what really matters is muscle memory for key positions, not what it actually sends.
Second you can have a WM layer on the keyboard that directly sends all mods you need. You don't go to number layer and press shift super, you go to WM layer and press one key.
I'm not using a tiling WM but I have my own KDE scrip with very similar logic. Workspace 1 for me is just WM Layer -> a, WS 2 is WM Layer -> s and so on, I don't even remember what it sends, I go purely by key positions and I know whatever I set that position to emit will be accepted by KDE.
>>
>>108548592
Also don't forget that qmk has more than just layers. It was a while ago I tried i3 so your setup might be different than my own KWindow scripts, but for instance you could do this:
Win layer + press a is workspace 1. This is pretty intuitive, just think of it as having the number row on the home row. You can also have your actual number layer have 1 on the a position (that's what I have) so you build that muscle memory and it connects with your earlier logic of using numbers for workspaces.
And then Win layer + long hold on a is sent to workspace 1 (look up tap dances).
You can have combos, for me Win layer + f + j is close window, d + k is minimize all windows. Just think outside the box of having to press the exact keycodes you are used to.
>>
>>108548669
now you made me think and i want to try to have number row bind straight to super+num as i dont use it for numbers. just imagine one-key workspace switch, whoa.
i have been fucking with my muscle memory so much recently, just need to find good defaults and get used to 'em.

the next level is editing the keymap.c directly and add timers and what not. holding down a key slightly longer sends something else than a normal press would.
or for instance when you use a numpad layer, usually you type in those numbers pretty fast. instead of continuously holding down a temporary layer key to expose the numpad, you could have it setup that you press that layer key once and the numpad is exposed for 0.5s, at which point you can type a number and it gets extended by 0.2 for every numpad press.

i can make a pcb myself but where do i get plate and shell? i dont want these tiny ass 40 key keyboard i'd rather have something ~tkl sized

I do. I've saved dozens of pics to try and narrow it down.

- Max 4 rows
- LCD like in that pic I posted
- Touchpad or trackball or joystick on right side near thumb
- Ideally bigger LCD than pic related, like on the work harder nomad keyboard
- Dial knob is a bonus
- Low profile choc switches

Love this idea. Thanks, bro.

>>108551885
i'm feeling generous, so here's what i do.

make a few slices of mdf plate (switchplate, spacer, bottom, top, send them to your local lasercutter and for <$100 you have something amazing. Why? Wood/MDF deadens sound, so when you combine silent switches with this setup, you won't hear a thing but scratching switches.
bonus if you chamfer the top plate and bottom plate, but you can sand those yourself if you want.
Downside would be if you're likely to spill drink on your keyboard. It's miles cheaper than getting something cnc'ed and looks so much better than something that is home 3d printed (300k machines can obviously look better).

I have ZSA Voyager split keyboard. It's pretty good, but after using it for 2 years I feel like I've grown up and wouldn't buy a funky ass keyboard again, a normal keyboard is fine
>>
>>108556838
Did you find that it had any benefits over regular keyboards?
>>
>>108557026
I'm going to have to say not really. I got into it because I thought that theoretically it would help my posture. But I feel that in practice it barely matters, you can have good posture with a normal keyboard
>>
>>108557026
>>108556838
but now that I have it, I don't mind using it. Final verdict: a gimmick that is nice to use, but the cables are very upsetting to my eyes

>wrong
please give a better idea.
